So happy you did my request. This song always rips me up. I almost chose it for my father daughter dance at my wedding, but didn't want to start crying.

Oh my gosh I DID chose it for my father/daughter dance at my wedding and we were both crying, along with some of our guests. :)

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. It's about looking backwards and forwards in time at our dreams and disappointments, as represented by the white horses. Sometimes they lead the way, and sometimes we lose them.

On an album of devastatingly beautiful songs. It's one of the musical monuments of the 90s. China and Silent All These Years are just incredible as well.

Watch her live version from the early '90's. OMG !!!! I never knew it was possible to have a "theatrical presentation" by one person, by themselves, playing piano. It's truly unbelievable. It's a "presentation" not just music. She is THAT GREAT !!!!!

I have witnessed Tori live many, many times but it was never enough. I’ve seen her perform with her band and also alone. Sometimes she played a piano with one hand and an organ or keyboard with the other. I have many genres of music I like but when she was alone I imagined that this is what an angel would sound like if they had eternity to practice. There were times my whole body would shiver watching her perform

At last !! Such a moving song about her dad. Perfect after the father's day week-end. Love it !!

Beautiful song, masterpiece. An analyst/counselor/therapist could do an entire thesis on the lyrics. I usually feel that the horses changing to have gone ahead represents Dad dying, but it’s a wonderful example of interpretable poetry. Great reaction, thank you 🙏

A truly beautiful song about one of the most basic relationships in human history. A father, and a daughter. And if we could all love ourselves as much as our mothers and fathers do, the world might be a much better place.

This needs so many more views! But that can be said about any Tori Amos reaction. Still. No one reacts as well as ENOMA

It is a good and at the same time, hard to accept yourself that you are on your own. I cry while singing this song, well, not all the time, the tears, really do make me feel like I need a hug. I still need to learn myself to stand up, because they will not always be around. Sad but very comfort to be, in self wisdom

There are many Tori Amos songs to seek out. From my experience with some of the songs you've enjoyed, might i suggest Tracy Chapman and Joan Armatrading. Two great artists with great music and always a great message.

The third chorus is indeed turned to her father, I think the white horses represent your potential, and Tori's were still in bed in her youth, but her father's white horses having gone ahead represent sacrifices and missed opportunities that inevitably come with parenthood and making tough choices. Her father was quite alive at the time, he got to see her perform this song(there's a great performance of her singing this song at the Montreux Music Festival in 1992 and she dedicates the song to her father in the audience). He has passed on fairly recently, but this song is just about 30 years old, and yeah, I feel really old saying that.

That's a classic and my favourite of hers. I suspect you may like Joanna Newsom too. Try Good Intentions Paving Company, Divers or Time, as a Symptom.
