Toro Super Recycler with Toro engine review

I own a few Toros, one of which is a super recycler and has a briggs and stratton engine. Works great however, mine is getting old. As you have stated, only one of the recyclers has a Honda engine which is fine. The lawn dealer suggested then just getting a Honda instead if, I get a Toro with the Honda. I am not a fan of the Chinese made engines and I agree with what you have stated. I am able to do small repairs and part availability is a big factor. You just confirmed what I fear. Looks like a Honda HRX mower next spring for me.

Jim America Thanks Jim. I actually got an older Super Recycler with a Briggs engine that wouldn't run. it needs an engine rebuild that I haven't completed yet. I also got a Hrx217 that ran but needs trans work so I want to compare the Toro to the Honda afterwards. I really want to like the Honda but the propell is just better on the Toro (personal pace) as far as ease of use.

I bought a lightly used Toro personal pace (which I love) with the Loncin Motor. Loncin makes a wide variety of motor applications. My only issue;s so far is the valve cover hes a slow oil leak, otherwise the motor runs great. The only other problem is the mower itself, as frequently I cut the grass there is a strip of mulch that runs right down the left wheel line and you can see the grass clippings being hammered out of the left side of the deck. I will be bringing it to the Toro Dealer for inspection.

I have the same super recycler but I think it runs at too low of an rpm because it misses blades of grass even right after I sharpen the blades. I can’t find anything on adjusting the rpms on the super recycler. Any ideas?

Well mine did bog down in taller grass but it needed a carb clean. You can adjust the rpm's by adjusting the governor arm but that rarely needs adjustment. Make sure the deck is clean underneath. Scrape off any grass buildup and see if it helps.

The government requirement for manufacturers is that the blade tip speed not exceed 19,000 fpm. This was arrived at to accommodate normal out of balance from sharpening and provide a safety margin. The engine manufacturer then specifies the max blade length and what is practical for the torque it has and adjusts the engine speed to remain below the 19,000 fpm even with manufacturing variations. Thus, the rpm for the mower will usually be quite a bit below that. I buy a tachometer, which are inexpensive. Then I buy a spring for the governor from the hardware store, very much like the original. I adjust the rpm to be below the 19,000 fpm by 200 to 300 rpm. There is no need to go higher. Just this makes a tremendous difference on recycling and vacuuming ability for bagging. I use pure gasoline. 10% Ethanol gas barely affects no-load rpm, but the torque and horsepower will be off by ~5%, which is not a big deal, but then I inherit the corrosion issues and the recommendation to purchase additives to prevent it, and for an extra $1 a gallon, it just isn't worth the trouble.

All these engine including Honda clog up in the carburetor. No difference.
