reversion cones are to stop the shock wave re,entering the exhaust tract , they are used when higher duration cams are installed. the shock wave can cause the incoming charge to be blown back into the inlet track, because of the greater cam overlap the exhaust valve is still open when the the inlet valve is opening. stage 1 cams standard aplication stage 2 cams ehaust ignition carb upgrads stage 3 cams all the above plus port and inlet valve changes, you wuold not really notice a big change unless you are running high lift longer duration cams good hunting!!!!

I wouldt recommend just on my personal experience but they are cheap enough to try them and if you don't like them then the money doesn't sting as bad. Here is a link to jp cycles for your model if I have it right. Snake oil, but they might say it increases exhaust velocity clearing the cylinder of non combustible gasses faster and getting a better burn and run a little bit cooler.

"Torque Cones" are actually a gimmick for those that cannot "tune" a bike, or doesn’t understand engines and how some modifications work... See, most guys pull their factory exhaust off, and put on drag pipes on, and then they either don’t understand or cannot comprehend why it “Feels” like their bike lost “Low end torque” and it may have, at specific RPM…But let’s see why… Firstly, most bikes, (at least prior to Exhaust Catalysts) are very lean for emissions reasons… So when you “uncorked” the exhaust, you’re allowing better exhaust scavenging (the hot exhaust pulse actually “sucks” on the intake, as usually for a few crankshaft degrees while both valves are open “overlap”), much like a slight cam change…and now on the intake side you’re not allowing enough fuel to go with the bigger/longer duration gulp of air the engine is getting, (carburetors and open loop EFI are susceptible to this issue, closed loop EFI with learning fuel trims can usually relearn and fix this), and depending on the overlap of the cam (read High RPM race cam), maybe some of that charge could even be dumped into the exhaust, but on a race engine, who cares? - Lean on fuel = Low Power, need to increase fuel flow “jetting” to match air volume. Secondly, Going back to the science, eliminating the back pressure, you have effectively lengthened the exhaust duration (because the exhaust of the previous cycle is right before the current intake cycle), because the Drag Pipe exhaust gasses move easier, there is less back pressure, which is increasing overlap, cam manufacturers will tell you, more overlap favors a higher RPM torque peak so in theory you have raised the “Torque Peak RPM” of the engine, so it really doesn’t lose torque, it just moves it a little higher in the RPM band…BUT because its more efficient, there is also MORE torque to be had there. So, where you had a PEAK of 100lb-ft at 2000 RPM w/Factory Exhaust, you may now have PEAK of 104lb-ft at 2200 RPM w/Drag Pipes. What torque cones are made to do is give the cylinder that back pressure again, but closer to the head so your bike can be loud! (Using drag pipe as megaphone). But with the back pressure “back” in the exhaust, you are back to 100lb-ft at 2000 RPM and your bike is louder, so it sounds cooler, and now you wont need to “tune” the intake side for the better flow. - Torque Cones make “Drag Pipes” into “All Show and No Go!” I get a lot of people that put Drag Pipes on their bikes, and then call and complain their bike runs like crap....Yep....Your Jetting is Off!

I’m led to believe they are used when you don’t have baffles as it reduces reversion which kills low down torque, something your baffles were already doing
@Mikeityourself2 жыл бұрын
Did some research on that too. For fun I pulled the baffles out and did another run just to see if i noticed a change. Seemed about the same, which does make sense that if I am already used to the baffles providing the reversion then swapping them from the Cones wouldnt be noticeable for me. You make a good point. Appreciate the feedback.

@@Mikeityourself I actually emailed DK Customs about this question when putting on my new exhaust, and their dyno charts showed no improvement using the torque cones with baffles.
@tomconte1765 Жыл бұрын
@@Mikeityourself Baffles create back pressure. Torque cones reduce reversion. They achieve different results, although small. Probably not very noticeable unless, as you stated, dyno tested. 1 or 2 HP on a 650lb bike with a 180lb rider won't be easily noticed.

Whats up Clutch, hope all is good. Pipes were already on the bike when i got it. They seemed to be your standard drag pipe, they had no brand so mine were probably on the cheaper end. They were used on high performance Chevy V8's and they were NOT useless Homie! They just need to be used with other equipment, (duh) like headers, cams, intakes etc. Hot Rod magazine used them in their 26mpg 375 HP small block engine! also used alot in turbos, and in a few other builds as well. They do work amazingly well when used with the right compliments! and it wasn't the 90's it was back in the 70's Homie!
