I'm not one to comment on the web but every now and then great things need some praise. I grew up in the woods and I've been running built saws since the early 90's, I've ran many good ones but after buying two from Jack; one was his personal used 562 (that I ran for two seasons as a thinning saw before a minor repair and now running it for a third!) and now a new 461 he built for me over the summer. I have to say not only does he get a lot more out of a saw, than any other saws I've ran, he builds them in a way that they last. Plus I know he continues to improve his product and adapt as the new changes come to the latest saw versions. As a timber farm manager, I can honestly say Jack will get all my future saw buying business because when I look at year end costs and time spent getting trees turned into logs, the added expense of these saws easily pay for themselves in productivity and reliability, not to mention safety of the timber feller when getting through a back cut so quickly! Thanks Jack -RB

For the likes of CJ Saws & DC Campbell - If I had to take a guess, it's fluent in forum smack talk... For the record, until you've stood right there, sawing on said wood you really have no clue. And until you personally have used someone else's equipment, you are not in a position to make an accurate assessment from what I can tell. Regardless, it shows a lack of class with that kind of commentary. I'm going to hope and pray that somehow, someway, you and those like you get to a better place in this life. For the decent folks out there, "soft wood" like white fir growing at around 5/6000' can rattle your fillings "out ur head" - especially if it's been getting pounded with wind. I personally have cut a lot of trees, through many decades, in an array of locations. Those that really know something about sawing on wood will tell you that there are always variables as to the wood's hardness. And, until you have used your own equipment on it, you really don't know how the wood will behave with your chains. Felling high elevation, old growth fir growing close enough to the coast to get "winded" takes a completely different chain to be affective than what works great on the coast down in the low areas. Mr. Barringer's comment sums up his experience of using more than one tuners saws over a long time. It is much appreciated! Not that I, really, have to respond....

Torque or treat? re: the Bradley Allen chainsaw was taken by my evil landlady and thrown away just out of spite. She knew I had an interest in it & thought it belonged in a museum. She sadly liked to do things like that. I mentioned how I enjoyed the shade from the Eucalyptus trees that kept the house freezing during the winter since there was no heating. She had them cut down. Once I figured out what made her tick I tried a little reverse psychology to my advantage once in a while. Lived there 5 miserable years.

hey jack long time say how you think your saws would hold up cutting hardwood back east
@hotsaws1015 жыл бұрын
NJ hi. I pondered here a bit. That's a very loaded question. And, just a bit of a rabbit hole. Is the guy's chain cutting smooth or rough? That will effect the longevity more than a few other things that I can think of. Whether the operator is a finesse or the tear up an anvil type is another. In an attempt to unload the query, it's like there is some stigma about back East hardwoods. I've cut headland Eucs, standing dead Black Oaks, Locust, and old growth Live Oaks on the left coast that will have your teeth "rattling out ur head". The last two pull a lot of silica out of the soil. If cutting early you can see the sparks. Never mind when they are 4/6' on the stump. Better have a backpack full of chains.... If you want to get a hold of something hard, go to 6/7,000 feet and grab a hold of a big White Fir. And when you think, man my chain must be dull!, get on the limbs. You end up having a couple of chain choices up that high. One thing gets over looked a lot I think. It's the fact that 16/20" bar will rob ~ 1/2 a horsepower. A 36" is about double that. I build saws for a few guys on the Right Coast. A 24" bar is long for most of them. I use a 33" regularly - 110 drivers .375 - and a 36" a lot out West. My premise there is that even though a lot of the trees in the PNW are considered "softwood", the bars used are much longer and suck up a bunch more of the power. Elevation plays a huge part on the tree's hardness as well. I think that because lot of guys that are fallers have never worked above the relatively low numbers, say 0 to 2k feet, there is a misnomer that back East is the pinnacle of what would be considered abusive on a chainsaw. Burns are pretty much the worst that I know of overall. Factoring it all in then, things might just be pretty close to even while sawing on either side of These United States. I've never heard of any of my "real" clients complaining about the saw not holding up in a "back East application", or after felling millions "out West" either Thanks for watching.

Trey hi. It would depend upon the application and bar length. I might be running a Dolmar. I might running a Husky or a Stihl. It would have to be refined quite a bit for me to say a particular saw/brand was better. But, it might also only be in one application that I think so. Thanks for watching.

Ortimber 1 run. same as top fuel. damn thing is probably running on alcohol as well lol
@speedandmarine90665 жыл бұрын
That mostly depends on the owner and how well it's taken care of and operated. I have several ported saws, so far I have yet to wear one out. I'm not a professional faller, but do cut quite a bit. One of my current ported saws is a 461 that HOTSAWS101 has done and it has been trouble free for over a year now.
@hotsaws1015 жыл бұрын
Ortimber hi. I had felled and bucked ~ 400k with this saw before what we see here. In addition to what Mr. Speed said below, the mix oil used will play a part as well as the condition of the chain, along with others. I can cut millions with radical saws. Most notably, one of my 390s with a modded combustion chamber like this saw. I came up with 6.5 to 7 million board feet slayed. If you average, and divide by 5000 board feet per load that is 1350 loads of logs with that on saw. I run pump gas laced with boost for ~ 98/100 octane. I blend my mix oil. I use a ratio of ~ 48/50:1 All of that is what we see here. In a professional fell application, one year of run time is a pretty common time number. Thanks for watching.

Ortimber - I won't take a stockly one off the landing. Nose bleed slow cutting operation. Once zipped, a beastly little machine! I might have to eat crow, but, thinking that this one is going to give a 500i all it wants based on what over seen in the 462.

1.3 mm chain, old trick.... don´t use this with jeans, the chain can break.....stay safe, stay alive guys
@hotsaws1012 жыл бұрын
Jürgen hi. Not a trick at all. Pretty common place to use .050, .058, and/or .063 gauge chain in this neck of the woods on mid sized saws. Been doing it in some capacity since ~ '76. Reason being, no need to run .404 with the associated extra weight & slower cutting characteristics of the more wide kerf it cuts. This holds true for all applications except old growth Redwood timber (getting through the bark) and second growth Redwoods when the bark is swelling in the spring & early summer - also getting through the bark. I have broken a few chains over the years, but only a few. I've burned through MILES of chain in the 5th, and now going into the 6th decade during my career using saws. Chap, by all means. If a guy feels like they are necessary. I'd suggest wearing them. Some guys use the insert version. I know that because that's is the type I will occasionally use. Thanks for watching.

Robert hi. Although this saw is mine, I "mess" with whatever the client sends me. I personally think that there are good, as well as bad, attributes in all saws, regardless of the badge. Ummm, yah not really. This saw will annihilate a stockly 390 & run with a middle level tuned 390. One of these days we will all watch that happen. This video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnjdm3akgp2MqM0 - shows an on the pipe Jonsered 2166 (70.7cc) that I built besting a stock 390 & a stock 461 running fairly close to the 390.
