Their objections are the volume of water use and energy requirements. They can be solved by rain catchment on the huge roof areas and adding storage tanks also as they have to clean the water before releasing after first use they can reuse the water they just cleaned. power requirements Germany has an excess of solar in their grid so a battery station like Hornsdale would fix that.

In fact, they have done more than the bare minimum, with recycling of scrap, renewable energy production, anr improvements in process efficiency and safety. In the case of GM or Toyota or other real car companies, the plant would be CLOSED DOWN for inspections if there was ANY kind of incident. Tesla? Not so much. As well, Tesla opens against state orders, and bullies thr local government to allow it. ANY OTHER BUSINESS, and the owner is ARRESTED. By the way, if they're running on unicorn farts, solar and wind, then they don't need that 1MW grid connection, do they? Here, it's not even slow, I think because they have preliminary permits. All the Tesla employees building their homes nearby will have the same kind of power. Imagine you have built a nice home in a quiet, green neighborhood. Now, some big company comes along and wants to place a huge, 25 m high building nearby. It will dominate the skyline of a wide area - and you are seriously pissed. Find a few people agreeing with you, and file a complaint by filling some form and signing it before the deadline. It looks like something like this has happened here, and the negotiated result is that most of the buildings can only be about 15 m high. That way, the buildings are hidden by the nearby forest. It will cause expensive changes for Tesla, but that's not what their opponent should care about, it's not his fault. In this case, it may even be the risk they agreed to for a preliminary permit.

Several of my "general" comments knowing I have not addressed some critical issues like site selection and water. I was initially shocked at the extensive clear-cutting of trees. But after looking at the Berlin renderings, and construction of the Shanghai Gigafafctory (see most current progress at kzbin.info/www/bejne/aV64Y5KLoLFljKM ) it's a massive undertaking, though they should have had a more creative, innovative architectural design to better conform with the surrounding environment. I wish Tesla's environmental model and commitment was as rigorous and comprehensive as Apple. They have incorporated clean energy solar and wind in their design and plan to plant 3 times the number of trees cut (I can't say what number and quality of trees that would not have been necessary to cut if they followed new conservation models). What astonishes me, is that the anti-climate coalition in Germany (VLAB) opposed the use of solar and wind and would take this to the courts! I'm not sure how you can come to a rational, common-sense compromise agreement with groups that go to the extreme. The government appears to be the main culprit in its lack of citizen transparency. I wonder if Tesla regrets building in Germany altogether. It would have been better for them to follow a Social Development model (with the environmental components) and build in a less developed country that needs these kinds of projects to help empower its people, education system, and economy.

@You Wish Well...most of the videos I’ve seen have been shot on weekends. I guess German labour laws require workers get a day off every week, which is fair and good. There’s also a big difference in the construction methods. This particular factory isn’t built at the site, it’s assembled at the site. Most of the components are built elsewhere (I believe Linz) then brought to Grunheide. That’s why there are far fewer workers here than at, say, GigaShanghai where everything was built on site. It’d be interesting to see how and where the components are made. In terms of progress, I think they’re moving along just fine.

Politics,... the local government cant say to early that is good because the opposition will go against to win political credit. The best the opposition can do is create caos and divide . this plant in germany would really be a good idea if tesla sold cars in europe. but they dont and because of that its a stupid waste of money.
