What is a torque stick?
@willbgrill
@willbgrill 3 жыл бұрын
At shop air pressure at about 120 psi my set over torques it's rating by anywhere from about 7ft-lbs to 20ft-lbs, I now just go down a size and then torque lug nuts by hand after. The higher the torque rating of the stick the more it over torques in my experience. It also differs slightly between lug nut styles i.e. acorn vs the Toyota style flat washer type and differs slightly when the studs have anti-seize on them vs not. I imagine this is a universal finding if I were to use other brands of torque sticks. As with these tests, the longer the impact gun is running the higher the torque rating so I don't keep holding the trigger down once the fastener slows to almost stopping, which is usually a few hits after being snugged.

I’d rather have a 30 minute video that shows stuff like this than a 5 minute video that doesn’t explain anything. Showing what happened to each part was the most interesting part of it. The normal torque stuff is good information and important but it’s the seeing what happens to the tools themselves over time is the real information.

Really awesome review. I have sold Sunex and later on Grey Impact sockets/tools since the 80's. Pallets and pallets of them.I also was a weekend fabricator. It was hard to convince people how good they were until I got them to try them. Then they never questioned them again! The other thing that was great about their sockets were thinner wall than any other brand back then. Awesome explanation on the Hardness/alloys heat treatment ! Any one of those can make or break a good socket! I have never seen an electronic/diamond tipped hardness tester. WOW ! Nice equipment investment! Congrats! New Subscriber!

Even Snap-on states right on their chrome sockets....'Not for Impact Use'... That is a badass hardness tester - the machines I've used before are floor standing machines, totally mechanical. turn the wheel until you load up the indenter to a certain amount, then pull the main lever/weight applier, and let it sit 30 seconds to settle. Then undo it, and see how far back the needle goes and get your reading that way. much faster, field usable meter you got there. pretty cool!

Might be a month or two based on the list we're working down. We'd need the torque stick type with a 1/2" drive end on both sides for this. You guys have an recommendations?

@@TorqueTestChannel there are quite a few on Amazon that aren’t that expensive. I think mine go from 60ft-lbs to 150ft-lbs.

Great video! I have become hooked on this channel and my wife doesn't quite understand. I would love to see you test how much torque is lost using a 1/2 to 3/8 or vice versa.

I have and love my Matco sets, I did notice that the way the GearWrench was made is WAY CHEAPER. My Matco has it's grooves through most of it's body, not 4 small points. And I have run these swivels since 2005 on a IR Platinum and Titanium 1/2" drive and a they're 3/8" drive haha Great Video!
