@@motoforlyfe don't listen to him... You're no Scotty Kilmer. That's a good thing. I can tell the difference immediately... You are an intelligent individual with a higher-than-average ability to absorb technical information. You also have and apparently natural ability to convey all that technical jargon to those who don't have your assumed experience level... In a way it's easy to understand but leave nothing you guess about. And thank you for that. I have 25 years of shade tree mechanic experience and have never been in a situation to even have to think about the torsion bar adjustment. I'm working on a 98 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 LS V6... Have you found that there is a general rule of thumb on how far you can safely lift it? All I'm looking to do is level it out on the new shocks of stock height. I just want to be able to squeeze a 31 or 32 in M/T under it. You know what? I'm just going to go outside and do it right now. And in my own thought process, I'm wondering if a very mild tightening of the torsion bars will stabilize the front end a little bit. Nothing is wrong with the front end... It's just the late 90s SUV with 170000 miles on it. I'll report back. Have to go have a safety meeting before picking up tools ;-) peace out. Thanks for the video.

I have a 2004 dodge Dakota 2wd and I want to be able to fit 33s on it with no rub. I’m thinking a 2.5 inch rear block and I was hoping the torsion bar would be able to give me the 2.5 inches I need to level out my truck. Would that be possible without maxing the bar or no?

I recently got a 95 Toyota T100 the front end is sagging and it does have a torsion bar but what I was thinking of possibly replacing the shocks they might be worn out and that's why its sagging... I had the same problem when I first got my 3rd gen 4Runner

Very informative, if i would like to lift my truck I won't be doing it via tortion bar. My 04 Dakota was lifted when i bought it via tortion bar because there were no spare parts under there. the tires wore a little one on side but it wasn't horible and turning them was fine. unfortunately some asssshole on a cell phone smashed my beautiful not one rust spot 2004 dodge dakota SXT 4WD from behind and also shoved it into the other vehicle that was sitting at the light totally destroying it. the bed was shoved so far into the cab it was to much damage to fix. I loved that truck and how and the hell do you replace that with any amount of money because they just aren't out there for book price. I finally found a very nice 05 but as all dakota lovers know 04 was the last year for that generation. No more beautiful rounded fenders. I was thinking of lifting the 05 and i still might but it does ride so much nicer than the 04. almost buick like for a 4WD pick up truck. So maybe I'll just leave it. Your video was the most informative i have found after several days of searching. thank you, like and subscribe every video you post now. you earned it Brother.

Awesome explanation. I got a 2009 ford ranger about 6 months ago now and it came with 33s on it. I lnew nothing about lifts and trucks before purchasing this truck. I now realize that all the previous owner did is crank up the torsion bar to where rhere is absolutely no suspension left in the front and the cv axles and all other components are taking a huge hit. Ive been doing alot of research as to how to combat this and solve this issue. And im still not sure what the best option is. Im not too worried about cost as i wanna keep this truck for the foreseeable future. I just want it to be a comfortable ride, and good for off roading. What would you suggest i do to lift the truck? Thanks in advance

You have to use torsion bars on the front of every vehicle. Duu why did you not exeplain that? You can't compare torsion bars to any other suspension they are special suspension for the front of vehicles only because you can't put leaf springs or any other suspension there

Then spent months looking online for a simple explanation of effect of cranked torsion bars on ride quality. Couldn't find anything helpful. Your video answers everything. Now I hope to get better ride by cranking down my torsion bars. Amazing video. Thumbs up guy!!

love the video, My 80 Datsun 720 king cab height is like a 1" or 2" lower on the driver side than the pass side. Is all i do is tighten up the driver side to bring it up some, or do I have to pull the bar off and move the spline a notch over a turn on driver side to go up a little? I want to bring up the driver side to match the passenger side height
@ridered6271

I have a 84 Datsun also. Just tighten the lower side torsion bolt and check alignment compared to passenger every 1 turn of the bolt until it matches. Also lift the front end with a jack before tightening or loosening. You always want the load off b4 changing it.

what if you want to lower a 4x4s ride height? i dont want to screw up my ball joints or other components. they make different keys for lowering (or so ive been lead to believe) will these work to lower the height without damage to other parts of the suspension? i dont go off road, i just use the 4x4 for better traction in snow on the roadways

Hey HD, any luck finding a lift for the '04? I have an '05 with IFS (4WD). Mine doesn't have the coil spring, just the shocks and torsion bar. I want to retrofit to carry a camper. A coil and shock would probably add to height and weight capacity- if only one could be bolted on. I feel the front end in too light for heavy weight. I've been searching but no info found so far. Any ideas?

@@motoforlyfe I've had several, had one I got and wrecked it, then got a rough SOHC V6, then I picked up a V8 for $200, which I've driven to 276K and I wouldn't sell for a grand if the money was in front of me, it's loud and ragged out in a lotta ways but I drive it everywhere. I liked it enough I elected to V8 swap the rough V6 since the body was mint on that one, and no rust anywhere, never seen salt. The V6s aren't too bad, I bought a SOHC one out the junkyard for $400, sold for $1000, and it's still running around all over the place. I swear by these trucks V6 or V8, but a V8 like you've got is a SCORE.
