So proud of Kirat for speaking out and up. Sadly her Dads reaction is a typical South Asian one and as a South Asian myself this attitude holds us back so much from so many things. We need to change this as a generation there is no honour/shame in protecting/confronting anyone no matter how close they are or how respectable the family are. A crime, an injustice has been done and gone on for far too long and without proper accountability it will never feel ok.

I am still thinking about “ what was simran arguing with her brother about before she came in to confess to kirat??? ” What if the brother had some involvement too? Wait what if those different male voices…….or some of them….. Maybe the argument went something like simran’s brother telling her not to confess or something 😮😮

Yes! My thoughts exactly. I don't know why the brother of Sim was not mentioned later. I'm sure the brother has answers as to her motive. So many questions but few answers. This has to be the most unique, mind-boggling, thrilling catfish story I've ever heard.

the father sounds so selfish, when he said he's upset that the family relations are not the same and the grandfather is hurt and the whole family is hurt, never once does he say hes upset for his daughter... and when he reiterates that the family is so decent.. Nowhere does he sound protective of his daughter. I feel like I as a stranger on the internet am more protective and angry on behalf of kirat.

I don’t think he understands what is happening. I mean he knows something happened, but he doesn’t understand it. And he doesn’t know how to deal with something that he doesn’t understand, he never learned or had the need for empathy. And, as it happens in most families, if we don’t talk about it, it didn’t happen kind of thing takes place. The faster we move on and do nothing, the faster we can go back to that place we were before all of this ever occured. And the sad part is that he has no idea of the damage he’s doing to himself, to his daughter, his family.
@colyakhtar

He sympathises with kirat because he sees his daughter hurting & he sees the family break down. He holds resentment towards his family & kirat because he wasn’t told to be able to do anything & let’s be honest he would have sorted this right at the start when he wanted to go Kenya & meet bobbys family. He even said when he was told about it by that time he wasn’t allowed to speak to any family or do anything. Totally understand him he’s a respectful man.

I'm sorry, but kirat is more nuts than the actual catfisher if we are talking about mental stability. She didn't seem right in the head and it's obvious she's still deluded and in love with the idea of Bobby. I bet she thought it in her irrational mind "he will see how much I love him and leave sanj and the baby for me". Let's not forget she wanted to mow sanj down when she passed by her car. I don't care how stressed or upset you are, that is not a normal thing to consider. Finally...can we please STOP calling this the most sophisticated catfishing scheme of all time? It wasn't sophisticated in the slightest. It was Kirats desperation/mental health/clear issues, that were the major concern of the show. That was the general consensus from the viewers. The podcast and the netflix doc have backfired on her majorly. She went looking to be portrayed as some catfish martyr. But actually, the focus is not at all on Simran. It's on her. The producers of the doc were clever and knew what they were doing. They wanted to show the world how gullible, unintelligent and desperate some people struggle out there. Witness protection in the USA was the ultimate joke. Come ONNN Kirat! , This whole documentary from Netflix has only not produced the outcome she was hoping for. Sadly, this lady needs extensive psychological help. It is Bobby and Sanj who I feel the most sorry for. They were an innocent couple navigating life with a young baby when one day their life was turned upside down. Then Kirats went to the media to make some COIN. Their entire private family life has been destroyed. She's also still so deluded that apparently she can't understand why they don't want to have anything to do with her. It's like she was thinking they were going to be doing coffee meet ups with her or calling her round for roti and saag lol. The fact she was offended by their rejection and limited contact speaks volumes of what kind of person she is inside....which is sadly a very troubled woman..

You’ll never know why she did this. It’s like asking a rapist why they rape, or a murderer why they murder. Some people are just born evil and enjoy hurting people. Some people said she was a lesbian and living out a fantasy, but that’s just offensive to gay people, it had nothing to do with sexuality and more to do with power and control. Is anyone surprised she had a high powered job? Only a highly intelligent person could pull this off, psychotic, but cunningly smart. Such a selfish, egotistical and overall bad person. She’ll offend again if there’s no consequences and jail time for proper rehabilitation, no one in society is safe from her.

I don't think Simran will ever admit the real reason she did this, because I think the answer is that it was entertaining and it made her feel powerful to control/manipulate another person so completely. She's never going to say her motivation was that it was just fun to create drama, because that makes her look bad. She needs years of therapy, but in the end this is a sociopath and a malignant narcissist. I think she lacks the ability to feel remorse and empathy, and even with therapy it's unlikely she will be able to feel those things because she lacks the ability. I don't buy for a second that she was in a dark place or feels badly for Kirat. She might feel badly for herself and for the consequences that she herself has suffered due to her actions/choices to catfish someone for years, but I dont think someone who has the capacity for this kind of awful deed can have the ability to empathize woth others. What a sad story. My heart goes out to Kirat. I wasn't catfished but understand having years of your prime time to find a partner and have children wasted by someone who wasn't honest/serious, and it altere the rest of your life. But Kirat should be happy she isn't Simran. Kirat at least has the capacity for real love, compassion, and genuine connection with others. Simran will probably never know what that is like.

100% took the words right out of my mouth. I knew deep down from the start Simran’s motive was the kick she got out of absolute control over a situation and a person. She even said “i ruined my own life” she has no real empathy and she’s a narcissist. I’m betting she’s saying she did this cuz she felt that they were both in a bad place just to protect her reputation in the community, especially a community like the one she’s in. Kirat, on the other hand, poor girl, I can only imagine the severity of the pain she felt, as somebody who loves hard, is helpful to others, and compassionate.

manipulation is something so common, why do you think this story spanning 10 years can be believable. Although not common, it still can happen. If something knows how to emotional manipulate you they can get by with so much, especially if the person is in a vulnerable state. Simran deserves to face some consequence and honestly I feel for those around her as she could easily do this to other people. Kirat can hopefully move forward and continue to bring awareness to what happened. This is abuse on various levels and the justice system really needs to catch up with the changing world.

No one in Kirat's family has a backbone. They let her down all to save face, which is beyond pathetic. They would rather brush everything that happened under the carpet then listen and try to understand that a crime has been committed. Simran is a disgusting pervert, and everyone protecting her in that community are just as bad. I hope things change in the South Asian community, god knows the women having to live in these kinds of environments deserve so much better. Kirat is a kind soul and had her kindness exploited. At the very least, this is emotional abuse. Why can't she be charged with that? Also, why not a restraining order that would prevent her from contacting her in any way. At least then, if she were to try manipulating Kirat again, there would be legal consequences. Kirat needs to get professional help. This type of abuse will stay with you and is very hard to move on from. It will eat away at your confidence and equilibrium. Therapy would help her move forward quicker and give her the tools not only to deal with what has happened but also to recognize when or if she is ever being manipulated again.

I really hope Kirat you went into therapy. First and foremost you do need to come to terms with where you went wrong, especially at such a mature age. You should’ve put 2 and 2 together quite earlier on. You not being able to answer when asked how you couldn’t distinguish between Simran and Yj’s voice just shows you were too engrossed in being involved and given attention that you did not care to question anything you were being fed. You never once questioned what the shooting was about, why he was in witness protection, why you were being given so much importance that even the wife wanted to update you, WHY? There are some deep rooted insecurities/factors you need to address before saying anyone could’ve fallen prey to this. No, if someone else was in your shoes, in this day and age (2010) people would question and exit. There were too many loopholes and red flags for anyone to stick around and entertain such online relations.

I think Simran had she not come clean would have gotten away with this forever because I don’t know if Kirat would have worked it out even after she knew someone was catfishing her. I think at the point of the interview Kirats dad didnt understand the full extent of everything yet. I think he didn mean to say that he feels sorry for Simran. He is defending his daughter Kirat, otherwise he wouldnt have agreed to be interviewed. But I think he also thinks maybe his own daughter let this all go on for far too long, meaning she should have been more responsible to not let herself be sucked in to this thing. I mean lets suppose Bobby was actually real, then still he treated her badly, kept her hanging on for years, made her suffer made her quit her job made her leave behind friends and happiness, never even sent her a video let her see him etc etc so many crazy things. Kirat has responsibility in this, in the sense that she should have dropped this relationship long long ago, even if he were a real person, she takes zero responsibility for anything. It isnt her fault she got targeted like this by her own cousin ofc, but it is her responsibility that she kept herself in this horrid nonsense for so long and let her own life go to shit.

True- I dont think he does not feel bad for kirat its just that im asian culture- familial ties are really given more importance and u are right- I am sure the embarrassment and humiliation that the other family also experienced to have a daughter like simran is also a lot to take because they know she was in the wrong and that the sin of the daughter is not the sin of the entire family. simran has no idea how much her actions not only hurt kirat but also her own family. It is much more heavier to have a child who grew up to do psychotic things than a normal and loving one like Kirat. I do believe that Simran had an obsession with Kirat when she described her as “cool” and possibly created all this fiasco because of her obsession with her but it got too deep to get out already. also, i do think simran has some mental issues. If Kirat pursued the case, Simran could just come up with a mental health issue and I dont know if in UK that is excusable. However, I do believe that Simran is dangerous and must be seen by a doctor.

Seems Simran assumed more was shared b/t JJ & Kirat in early communication, aka her perhaps assuming JJ had already exposed her (Simran's unnecessary, self-damaging, fantastical lies) & she created Bobby/JJ's death to end Kirat uncovering or perhaps empathizing with her own crazy through deflection. If S had any kind of emotional integrity/maturity she wouldn't have needed to resort to these tactics to develop her most intimate relationships. Online or off, varied levels of this type of forgery/social manipulation/isolation tactics resonate/are more relatable than we may like to admit, but this 10+ year charade takes the cake!

She was sucked in just like so many people who are catfished into believing ridiculous stories, & who let themselves stay in abusive online "relationships". The podcast spins a story & ignores some facts, like: - she didn't waste 10 years, she was in the online "relationship" for 3 years. - there were obvious red flags/inconsistencies & things she could have checked all along the way, eg "knows" the family, but never checked on Bobby's job or whereabouts, or his brother's supposed demise. - if a married man was sharing with me what he should be sharing with his wife, i would tell him to do that, not keep on so he leaves the wife for me, falling for me online - it's immoral and ridiculous. - she was 34 and still single so can't blame her cousin for ruining her chances of getting her own family imo - it was 3 years of waiting for an about to die online boyfriend by her own choice. It's spin a story & gloss over facts just to come up with a victim storyline. With biased journalist. Both these women are emotionally unsound/immature. Simran explained herself in the personal apology. It's aligned with what I've seen of other female catfishers who get a crush on someone and let the deception spiral out of control. The vicious lawyer period was because Simran realised there could be consequences & sought help. I've ended up agreeing with the family - should have been left private, & the victim should have moved on. However, the dishonest and dysfunctional way Simran copes with her personal tensions means i think it's better she isn't in a powerful job - she was going to come a cropper sooner or later with her immaturity & dysfunction. As to the victim's dad, i thought he was very polite & restrained. Hell, my family are far worse & i cope, & I'm independent and take care of myself. I don't blame others for my own failings or make demands on others like K does.

Why is it a flex that you have no crutch to stand on if life hits you? You sound lonely, nothing to be proud of. And it's completely ridiculous to do victim blaming. It is completely irrelevant what kind of character Kiran was - I don't think she was gullible or naive, but even if she was, that doesn't change the fact Simran was to blame. Kiran did nothing wrong. Also, if you think her dad was fine by not having a decency to feel protective of his daughter's mental life but more bothered about his or his family's reputation, I feel bad for you, pitiful really. Thats why this issue is till so prevalent today despite there being so many cases. Lets not pretend kirat is the only human to ever fall into such trap. •”move on” you say? You just spit on the face of all victims. Seriously shows how much you lack compassion and empathy, oh the poor people in your life… •nobody asked you to complement yourself we dont care how independent you are. You should be able to understand that each human deals with situation differently and reacts differently. Why is this such an alien concept to you? I agree that to some degree, responsibility did fall on kirat to double check but at the same time we have to consider how elaborate simran’s entire operation was.
