It might seem impossible but white can actually win this!

I have beaten Stockfish now! 🙂 It was not easy, because first I thought, we could go to checkmate with our king (Kd3 and Kc3 and then a4#), but then the black queen can prevent it with Qf6+ (after the pawn pushes). So then I switched to the totally restricting the black queen idea, what worked. 🙂

I find this study truly mind-blowing. I saw the first part till bishop sac, but further pawn game got me gobsmacked! Never thought the queen could be so powerless against only a knight, a pawn and the king😂 Thanks a lot for sharing!

Very well studied, white strategy is amazing. I guessed thecfirst moves but didn't realize the zugzwang idea.

Love this one. It's always great when you can account for every potential queen move.

I could be wrong, but isn't this quest already on your channel. I do remember seeing this assignment or was it on someone else's person channel.

Hi. I partly recognized this position and I wondered if I posted this or similar before but I couldn't find it when I scrolled thru my videos. I made so many now so chances go up all the time that I happen to post the same study/puzzle twice, especially since my memory is not the best :-)

8:24 -- Objectively, *the **_BEST_** move* Black has available for his Queen (only movable piece) is actually... *Qxa3 !!* Yes, of course, White *STILL wins* after the obvious Nxa3, *BUT* it's *MUCH harder* to do it, than if the Queen just lost pointlessly like shown here in this vid. .

Ok, so I didn't find all the moves to hem in black's King and Queen, but I was able to seal the deal after black plays Queen takes Knight. ; )

Hi from Somerville, MA, USA, I enjoy the channel but I need to improved your English a little bit, with no offense meant. Your english is good, much better than my non-existent Swedish but its "How does white or black win, etc." Also, this is the mountain I've decided to die on but I refuse to use the word "puzzle" as I think it demeans the activity. I always use "problem" or "study" or "composition". I know that I'm all alone in the world but I will keep fighting this fight to my last breath🙂!

5:44 -- *WRONG.* There's an *EVEN SHORTER winning sequence: *Kd3 !!* (I guess Kd2 also works) With the intent of *getting the King to c3* eventually and *THEN deliver checkmate with PAWN to a4 !! #* Only way Black can delay is to push pawn to c5, with the intent of taking d4 and preventing our King from reaching c3. However, this can be refuted by pushing pawn to d5. :) .

No, white is one move too late in this variation. Example Kd3, c5, d5, f5! and the black queen will escape before white reach c3 with his king. And when the queen has escaped a4 will no longer be checkmate since the black king can go to a6.

How come chess puzzles are always from white’s perspective? (To be clear, if anyone thinks I’m insinuating anything about human races, I’m not!) For me, chess is about changing things up and always having to think of unusual situations and never taking anything for granted, consistency is the last thing I think about when playing chess… 😄

For the same reason that white always begin in the starting position, it's just a set rule.

I think it's about symmetry. Any study that is from black's perspective, can be switched to a completely equivalent study from white's perspective, simply by mirroring the board, and swapping the colours of all the pieces. So, it is sufficient (and coneventional) to consider every study from white's perspective.

All composed chess problems are from white's perpective because it is always white first move. This is a standard. But in helpmate, a type of fairy chess, all problems are still from white's perspective but the first move must be made by black ! (black plays and helps white to mate in 2,3,4... moves).
This study is very clever
