Yup, the element of surprise, good choice of weapon. It's not hard to believe she'd have a great chance at this. She doesn't have to fight hand to hand against 5 grown-ass men to prove she's good. That'd be stupid then as it is now. In modern day films: she would probably blow some air toward those henchmen, and they would just disappear into nothingness.

@@informationyes I can give you plenty of examples in which one man fought against multiple opponents and WON. Trained fighters actually do that all the time. You show me ONE example of a woman doing the same. Only one. In fact not even professional female boxers or MMA fighters can take on more than 2 male opponents. Two capable, strong 16 year old boys can easily subdue any female fighter in history of female fighting. No exceptions. Two capable, strong 16 year old boys would get pulverized by any capable, average adult man.

I read somewhere that this was supposed to be a typical “girl fight” - hair pulling and the like while Arnold was supposed to wake up and beat up the men. The director, Paul Verhoeven, said “No.” So Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin studied martial arts and helped in choreographing this scene. Supposedly there were no stunt doubles used in this scene though they did have to do several re-takes.

As someone who works on film fights scenes, sorry but no. Almost exactly the same portion of actress to stunt double shots here as in a modern film. It’s an insurance thing as much as actors being willing or capable, some are some aren’t. That’s why Tom Cruise is a nightmare for productions, and if he wasn’t his own producer he’d never to be able to do as many of his own stunts. They shut down the last MI for god knows how many months after he broke his ankle, money just burned away...
