I like the older judges more. However the new season wasn’t bad and the new judges are more objective in the critiques than the older judges.

I know a lot of people would think that absolute freedom is a godsend for stuff like this, but that's not always the case. When I was in art school for illustration 15+ years ago up through now, projects/jobs with SOME boundaries have always been infinitely easier to brainstorm for and ultimately come up with a strong idea. When you have no perimeters at all, your brain can go so wild as an artist that it's difficult to focus on one concept to bring it to its best form. Everybody's mileage will vary, ofc, but in my experience as well as every colleague I've ever had, we always preferred having some kind of boundary/jumping off point. For these guys to come up with such strong designs in such limited time, especially with minimal input from their client/canvas, is _stupidly_ impressive.

I am in my apprenticeship and I could not agree more. I would much rather have a client ask for at least 2 boundaries (I want roses, I don’t want new school, I would love to include an animal etc…)

I know they open themselves up to what the artist wants but man, I'd be livid af if they could do absolutely anything and I got lumped with some unoriginal shit like a tiger, so cliche. Even the most realistic tiger is so unoriginal and shows the artists lack of ambition

I really do not like Scott Marshall, he was a complete control freak and other than his tattoo with Halo (who is an insane artist and a team player) I did not like one other tattoo he did all season.
