When kerr took off and beat jakob at the prefontaine classic i was super impressed. Having said that there was something about jakobs demeanour right after he finished in second. He looked content and pleased with his performance. Like he was a little under done and knew he was only going to improve. Feels like jakob is really pleased with where hes at. I think he takes the win in paris. Cant wait to watch it

Yes it was his first race back- he was intentionally not going all out balls to the wall or full throttle to prevent injury as the olympics were a month away and he knew he was using all these races as tune ups (this one for his kick to test his speedwork he had done a month ago)>

We saw Jakob trying out a new tactics in the European Champs semi-final and final: he started off easy at the end of the field, stalking the field and watching from behind without being watched by his opponents at the same time. In the SF he waited until 1100m, realising how risky this was as at that point in front of him four runners went down incidentally. In the final, after the first 200m he started improving all the time, moving forward from last place to the top continuously, combining a comfortable position with being unwatched, sparing his energy for a fast last lap because he had not pushed the field’s pace in the early part of the race. This might have been a good test and the best training for him looking forward to the challenge coming up soon in Paris in order not to loose the battle on the final stretch again.

I'm still waiting for the one on one of the greatest 5000m races ever, where Gebrhiwet almost broke the 5000m world record. That race was otherworldly because never before had nine guys run under 13:50. I'll sit tight waiting for that video. Big fan of your work!

I'm a Brit, and I agree that Kerr's progression over the last 12 months has been superb and a long time coming, however the strength and speed that Ingebritsen has shown during the European Championships should make Kerr very wary. I'm really starting to think that Ingebritsen has the edge here, and that's not something I say lightly.

The olympics will be exciting. I think it is worth noting that as far as I know, Jakob has only complained about being sick when running two times: when taking silver in the indoor WC in march 22 (he tested positive for Covid the next day) and when taking silver behind Kerr in the last WC (the national team doctor confirmed he had a small fever). This winter he was doing alternative workouts because of an ankle damage and had to drop the indoor WC this march because his ankle took to much time to heal. The mile in Eugene was his first competition back after the injury. When he was beaten by Jake Wightman, he didn't complain about anything except beating himself up about his own tactics. He believed he could have won by running faster earlier in the race to make his competitors more tired, but he was overconfident and tried to save power before the 5000 meter. Kerr has become really good and beating him will not be a walk in the park, but as I see it, Kerr has never won over Jakob while Jakob was well and in top shape. As a Norwegian, my fingers are of course crossed for Jakob. There are also some other athletes that might be able to fight for the gold medal as well. Cheruiyot seemed to maybe be at his strongest since the previous olympics. and Nuguse is of course doing well even though he was behind both Kerr and Jakob in Eugene.

I'm an American, and I'll have to disagree with you. Jakob will definitely be stronger, but Kerr is much stronger this year than last yeah, himself, and has superior closing speed. Kerr simply has no weaknesses at this point. Kerr will never be able to shake Jakob, but he'll beat him with his kick, but only by a little.

Jacob is now on his way to the best shape he could possibly be for the Olympics. He's healthy, happy, humble and ready. That 2nd place finish against Kern at the Classic Pre was a speedy check up to see how his body would cope after all the injuries, as a result he was satisfied with that 2nd place, though he knew he had more in him. I definitely think Jacob's gonna get his 🤴 back in a month.

@@alansamuel2454 Indeed. Yes, overconfident was the vibe I got from Jacob for years. But I think loosing a little and injuries was what make him train smarter and got him humble a bit. To be fair, the 2nd place to Wightman was when Jacob didn't feel well as he was tested possitive for Covid the next day. The the recent 2nd place to Kern was after a long season not racing, so you could tell he was satisfied with the outcome. Other than that, Kern has never beaten Jacob. I give credit to Kern for working hard to get to the level of speed and fitness currently, but I think when Jacob is at his top shape, he's a machine and fierceless!!!

He lost the last two world championships to guys with slower PB's which say a lot: no topend speed. Being able to run quick times in 1500m does not mean you can win Championship finals, which requires a blistering last lap instead of high average speed. You are truly the GOAT if you can outsprint everyone on the last lap like a road cyclist does in the last ~200m of say a 5 hour race. Then you are the GOAT, or you have the WR. He has neither.

Shout out to Sandra Elkasevic (formerly Perkovic) for her seventh European Gold and she only has the one event. "If Jakob needed any kind of confidence boost" Yeah, that seems like something Jakob would need. To be fair, Jakob and his brothers have always competed in the Euro's and it probably has increased their confidence, given the lack of competition they have generally faced. I think this was important for Jakob to get more races under his belt coming back from injury, but I don't think it tells us that much about how he would fair against tougher competition. You'd expect him to be able to run fast last laps, when he is running what for him are slower races. This is not to say there were no good athletes competing against him, but they are not at his level, very few, if any, are. The fact that he broke his own championship record running 3:31 should give some idea of how easy this is for him to win and even at that time he still won by a big margin. A similar comparison would be Femke Bol running 52.49 and winning by almost 2 seconds. It's great that she looks healthy and ran a new WL, but it doesn't give us much idea of how much she can push Sydney.

Drawing parallels between Sydney and Kerr is insane. Do you know how many races until recently Kerr, now 27 years old, never even hit the podium much less win in his entire career? Sydney broke her own record nearly half a dozen times! Jakob has been on the podium in every race since he ran the world championship when he was 17/18. Jakob is one of the most consistent athlete in history and he is only 23 and getting faster and stronger as his body full matures. Josh Kerr should not be even mentioned in the same sentence as Bol, and Sydney. Pay attention to statistics - lap times/splits, wins, intangible conditions athletes race under, their consistency in being in form and executing their strategies under pressure. You can't be a greatest of all time if you only run two races a year in one event.

Ingebrigtsen is an exceptional athlete however got to say that the competition at the Europeans isn't up to the standard he will meet in the Olympics. Jacob Ingebrigsten have a nice running style , almost perfect ! He is born to becomme a exceptional atlete. Somme atletes have those much extra, like a pogacar and evenepoel ... There muscule structure is so much better than common atletes. If you see Jacob running you have the impression he could go mutch faster because he is running relaxed and smooth . Somme people are born with special gifts and can do fysicly more than the average people.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be crowned with the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal. By no means will Josh Kerr crumble, but he shan't win, either. Kerr will truly wish he had not trash-talked Jakob, but it's hard to fix foot-in-mouth disease. Please, do not misunderstand me, Kerr is great, and has run the times (broken the indoor 2-mile to prove it). Be that as it may, In a few weeks, Jakob will arrive in Paris with a couple powerfully-developed new gears to wage war on the track. I believe the pace of the race will determine the winner of the Olympic 1500M. The field at the Europeans wasn’t exactly strong, and while a 26 last 200M and 53 last 400M is good, it was certainly not great off a moderate 3:31.95 final. If he’s restored his peak fitness/health by the 1500M final on August 6 - still 7 ½ weeks away - it appears logical to me that Ingebrigtsen will have to take the lead a long, long way out from the finish and run near (or achieve) a world record to win given favourable weather conditions. It’s almost certain he’ll be the best/strongest endurance athlete in the field (look at his spectacular 2000M and 2 mile world records), so to maximize his winning chances he’ll want to be at 800M (even-paced) in around 1:51 (probably in the lead) and 1200M in under 2:47 (2:46 would be ideal), before grinding out a sub 40 second last 300M. That should take the sting out of Kerr’s (or anyone else’s) kick. The greatest 1500M athletes in the past have used this strategy to crush the kickers - Herb Elliott in 1960 (a WR in the final), Kip Keino in 1968 (a near WR at altitude in the final). El Guerrouj lost the 2000 final and almost lost the 2004 final because he let the kickers into both slower-paced races. In the 2004 final he ran the last 800M in about 1:46.9 and last 400M in about 0:51.9 for a modest 3:34.18 final result. In fact he ran from 800M to 1200M (in the lead) in 0:53.28 and the last 300M in 0:38.97 (equivalent to 0:51.96 400M pace), and still barely held out Lagat. (The first 800M was done in a very slow 2:1.93). Ingebrigtsen appears to be inviting defeat unless he’s prepared to grind out a sub 3:27 (maybe even a sub 3:26 WR, which he’s capable of at his absolute peak under favourable weather conditions).

Leading start to finish won't win, staying close to the front but out of the lead allows him to draft and save energy, then it all depends who has the best kick. Could see a final lap under 48 seconds in the finals of the 1500.

2 major factors--- Can Jacob be 100% healthy for the Olympics? He gets sick a lot. He rides the line with his body and health. What kind of race will he run at the Olympics? I think he needs to go out fast and make Kerr keep up.. If its tactical, the kick goes to KERR.

He can’t win a 1500 gold in the Olympics as the rabbit. Ideally he needs someone else to create a good pace for the first 800m. Either way Kerr will be there or thereabouts - he’s not just a kick-merchant. If the East Africans turn up and want to medal then I think Jakob wins because they will need to force the pace and drop the field. Otherwise it will be a similar race to last time, small margins and 50/50 in my opinion. Where Nuguse is at the bell might play a big role.

I mean, Kerr has always been bad at showing up when it matters most. So I'm hoping he is there for the olympics, it is a bit tiering to hear him talk so much trash based on the fact that he won a single race against Jakob and beat Jakob in his season opener. Hopefully the rivalry will be as fun at it has been hyped up to be.

It’s a bummer Kerr didn’t show up. The Olympics is gonna be awesome. It’s gonna be interesting if Kerr gets the better of him again this year and tries to downplay Ingebritsen’s European champs accomplishments. Part of being great is showing up. I know European championships isn’t the Olympics, but I would suggest it’s worth showing up for if you want to downplay your rivals’ accomplishments.

Hello. Jakob ofcourse has the European 1 mile record from the last Diamond league in Eugene in 2023 there he also won the 3000 m race. Johs Kerr got the British record in Eugene this spring. I think both Josh Kerr and Jakob are outstanding midle distance runners, and both of them can win the 1500 in Paris. And they also respect each others, the other fiight between them are made by media, they are just joking. After Jakob lost 4 months of training after his injuy this winter I don't know what he can manage, but he is a long distance runner who is quite fast at 1500 and is much faster at the last kick than he showed in fewer in WC in Beograd, and I think the one of them with the best day will win 1500 in Paris. Jakob is probebly better at 5000 m in Paris if he is fully back. And in a world record race he might have better chance on the 5000 m record than the 1500 m record even if he has 3.27.14 at 1500 m last year he hasn't tried a fast race on 5000 m since early summer 2021.
