For Ingebrigtsen to break the 1500m world record, he would need to run each 400m lap in 0.2 seconds faster than he's done before. That's certainly achievable. I think he'll do it.

I think he can certainly get into the fitness required, but then of course it all depends if they're able to get as good pacemakers as Hicham did. Within the next 2 years if he gets perfect conditions and a sub 3:30 guy (like McSweyn did in Silesia) to take him through 1200 in 2:45 I think it's on.

He will take it by 2026. Conditions have to be just right. I do believe he would have broken the 15 record this year, had he run that in Silesia instead of the 3K. If he stays healthy - always a big if - he will take all the records up to 10K.

He'll get the 1500 record, and the mile. And I can see him doing the mile with only a few days notice to people that he's going for the record. I could honestly see him trying it without pacers at a track with Wavelight, since he can just follow the lights for the pace. As for the 5,000, seems like he has it so within his reach he'd rather go for the records that are really an effort first. Which makes sense.

Ingebrigtsen is on his way to becoming the greatest all-round male distance runner of all time. The 5000M and 10000M world records will be at his mercy once he tweaks his training away from 1500M/3000M towards these. His superb 3000M world record clearly indicates this. I think he’ll definitely get the mile world record over the next couple of years if everything is near-perfect on the day (fast track, no or little wind and warmish temperature, excellent even pacing, him in peak fitness/health, etc). El Guerrouj’s mile record of 3:43.13 equates to about 3:26.60 for 1500M, and Ingebrigtsen ran 3:26.73 this year, so he is very close. El Guerrouj’s 1500M world record will be Ingebrigtsen’s toughest assignment before he retires in my opinion. He is naturally better suited to the longer middle distance events, given his lack of raw speed compared to El Guerrouj, who could run the last 300M in sub-39 seconds (sub-52 second 400M pace) off a solid pace, and also went around 39.5 seconds for the last 300M (52.67 second 400M pace) when he ran his 3:26.00 world record. Ingebrigtsen struggles to get under 40 seconds in sub-3:30.00 1500M races. But further evolution/enhancement of racing shoes may do the trick for him. I can’t see him running half and full marathons seriously for at least 4 to 5 years (a significant change in training required) and that will be interesting. His first priority is to get the mile and 1500M world records (and another global gold in the 1500M) before attacking the 5000M world record, followed by the 10000M world record.

Realistically speaking, going for the 1,500m and mile is like going after 1 record. They’re both held by the same person and are like 20 seconds apart. I think Jakob might be going after those records for two birds, one stone. And then if he could manage the 5,000m WR as well, that’d be great. But having 5 middle-distance WR’s is already insane. Jakob is definitely gifted, but I think he’s gonna have to put all of his eggs in one basket to attain another record. I’d rather see him do that than chase EVERY record and not secure any because he’s spread too thin.. Just my $0.02
@venorando3672

We are seeing him aiming for very specific world records at the moment, and I think he’s aiming for the lower distances before taking on the longer one later on in his career, so I personally don’t think he’s spread too thinly. He has realized that he has to take his time and dedicate certain seasons to certain distances, so it should be fine. Still, the transition to distances like the marathon and half marathon mingt be difficult for him, as the current best in the world have been training for those specific distances their entire lives! If Jakob can manage that, he will become a truly legendary runner!

I think that, barring a major injury or interruption to training, it is almost certain he gets the mile, 5000m, and 10000m world records over the next several years. The 1500m I give him a 50-60% chance of getting since he must have a perfect race to do so, whereas the mile is a slightly easier record for him to get. The 1500 and the mile have to be done ASAP while the 5 and 10 could happen later on. I feel like it is still too early in his career to know if he has WR potential in the half marathon and marathon since the roads are so different from the track. If he can adapt his training to the roads, I think the half may be possible, but the marathon is basically a different sport from what he does now. As for the 3K steeple, if he can dust off the rust with the technical part, I think that record is almost certain as well given his incredible world record in the flat 3K.

Realistically he's too tall and heavy for the half or full marathon record. He'll get the 5 and probably the 10, he'll be just outside of the record for the 1500 and mile, 2nd fastest ever for those distances.

Obviously any predictions are difficult, but some of these would just be wild guesses. With running having such a high genetic component for success, it is impossible to tell whether or not Jakob will be a good marathon runner with no previous history. Just because he has the combination of genetics, training, nutrition and dedication to be amazing at the shorter distances doesn't guarantee future success at longer distances. We have seen many athletes past and present move to the longer distances with great success as they get deeper into their career, so it is somewhat of a good predictor that he should at least be fairly competitive, but there is a big gap between fairly competitive and Kelvin Kiptum level. That said, I think Jakob has plenty of time to improve his 1500m and mile far enough to break both WR's and the 5000m should be possible, assuming no-one else moves the goal further before he gets there. After that, I think it's impossible to predict, but the 3000m Steeple Chase may suit him quite well and seems like an easier WR, despite Kiplimo's Half Marathon having a lower score.

I also think he'll break the 5,000 world record, but that'll likely be in 2026. I don't think he has the full range beyond the 10K, but I hope he proves me wrong.

Noone doubts that J. Ingebrigtsen is great athelte, but why many people think, that he is the greatest runner ever? Sorry, but the author before making this video saw a lot of Disney Cartoons. People always forget about two things: 1. Classic distances are harder to be beaten than non-classic. Under the definition of classic distance I mean the distance, which is used in olympic games. In these distances(100,200,400,800,1500,5000,10000 and marathon and NO OTHERS!) there is a bigger attention, the competition here is more and more tough, so, I hope that noone disagree that to beat a new WR on 2000, 3000, HM and other distances is a little bit easier(if you don`t think so, explain me please, why Mo Farah could beat WR only in running on 1 hour, nor in 5000, neither in 10000 m). Therefore it`s unlikely for Ingebrigtsen to beat 1500 m WR, (yes, i think, that Hicham is the greatest middle distance runner ever). A lot of people think, that if Jacob could beat 3:27:00, he can beat 3:26:00 in the nearest future. It`s a logic of 10-years old boy, who sees Ilon Mask and wants to be an astronaut too. The closer you run to WR, the harder it will be beaten. 2. Running is a diverse thing and distance plays an enormous role in this statement. "Jacob can beat WR on 5000, 10000 m" - WHAT? Okay, I repeat:running is diverse thing. So, why Hicham couldn`t beat 5000 m WR (exception is Cheptegei). I don`t want to underrate Jacob, but, first of all, he takes too much attention. He takes an attention from the guys, who are not worse than him: Kerr, Hocker, Nuguse and others. Second, guys on other distances deserve more attention. I understand, that there is no like Rudisha, Bolt or Kiptum, but, from the other hand, only stayers have alternatives of classic distances, nor sprinters, neither long-distance runners(only HM).

Makes sense to go for the shorter distances when he is younger. So picking up the 1,500 and the mile. Then the 5,000. So easy to injure oneself on the steeple. Might be better to just skip it. Probably has to get lighter for the long stuff.

He thinks he needs a pacer to break the record. What he is overlooking is that he actually might have real competition when he goes for the record. He thinks he is the only one that can break the record but there are other runners out there that can keep up with him if not even beat him.

The hype is maybe a bit over the edge. No one cared about the 3000 until this year. How can someone say that this record is greater than Kiptum’s record? Or Bolt’s achievements? Calm down. Still just promises. Let the man run.

How has no one cared? The entire f*cking marathon wasn’t nearly as hyped as it is before Kipchoge entered the picture either, but that DOES NOT at all mean that it wasn’t held in high esteem! Something doesn’t have to be constantly spoken about of showed in the media for it to be valuable. The only reason why people haven’t been talking about the 3000 until recently, is because no one has been able to challenge the world record until now, naturally making the event less excieting, and FURTHER VALUATING the standing world record, NOT devaluing it.
