Thanks John, Just orderd my mounts from Peter. You could become his sales Rep :). Let us know how they work out after a while. Us Jag lovers would be lost without you.

Hi John. Thank you for the investigation as to what is happening here. very well explained and it clears up so many threads seen on Jaguar forums etc. I did the mount replacements as part of a suspension refresh (with British Parts) a couple of years ago, and have had the same wandering bushings. Your insight into how to do the replacements has just gained me another job for the summer, Thanks! ;-) Regards Ian 😃

Hi John. Another superb video in the suspension saga. Along with the fact that the hand made doughnuts are much sturdier, them fitting 'full form ' should go a long way to preventing the wandering shock effect. Hope your feeling better soon 👍

John, I just installed my Peter Hobman inserts over last weekend. Everything went well with the inserts and the spring clocking. My first test ride was good with no front end problems noted. The car is a 2001 XK8. My springs have two plack washers (spacers) and the white ring at the bottom spring support. I used a new type spring compressor for this job a VEVOR from Amazon and felt a lot safer during the spring compression process.

Hi Robert. Glad to hear they are going well for you. I hope to complete my install this week. (Work and the Flu have got in the way) I googled Vevor spring compressors and saw a wide range of interesting and unusual designs come up. I may have to invest🤔 I dont suppose you have an amazon link you could share?

Based on what I have learned in your instructive videos, I just installed new "Jaguar OEM" shock mounts. I cannot tell any visual difference between them and the Chinese parts. I was careful to clock the spring tails toward the outside. After a few days my 'center' has moved outward toward the fender in probably no more than 50 miles. The ride height did not go up to factory specs and still is an inch low, measured from center of center cap to fender lip. lower spring seat spacers were different than the two you showed, in that I had the two black spacers as well as the thick white spacer. The car is a Florida 2004 xk8 with 30k miles. I would like to see some authentic Jaguar packaging to confirm the parts I bought were not knock offs in fraudulent packages. I am anxiously awaiting your next video to see the results of the USA made parts. Thank you.

The europarts replacement has the squished bushing (appears to) and the seat ring is coated rigid steel. But I do like the idea of the up-graded bushings.

Superb detective work from all concerned. Bravo guys. I'm especially impressed with Chaz's contribution. Chaz, might you be willing to share the 3D designs with me as my daughter's partner produces 3D printed components for Land Rovers as part of his online 'business empire'. If he had the designs in sure he could make them available for X100 owners keen to replace these items. Chaz, if you're reading this and interested in getting in touch, John has my contact details and I'd be happy for him to share them with you. Cheers! BTW, hope that you're better again soon John. I reckon you need to consume more rum to ward off the many lurgies that you seem to have been afflicted with this last 12 months or so 🥃. Take care, pal.

And Gerard, if Chaz provides the 3D file and your daughter's partner produces them, please advise. The correct Jaguar P/N for this item is MJA2162BB.

Hi John. So to add to the confusion I have a 2005 XK8 convertible (Not an XKR) which has well documented history. I am as sure as I can be that it had 3 black rings and the white spacers as standard on the front spring. The front springs on mine are poor and the car sits so low it grounds occasionally. I attempted a top mount change mount change. A disaster. I had the same effects as you did. I only ran mine for circa 1200 miles. There is a secondary effect I suffered, the poor top mounts destroyed the bump stops. I'm currently in the process of my second attempt at a top mount change. I have built mounts with "Baxtor inserts". (He's really knowledgeable and a great man to deal with). My plan also incorporates fitting new KYB springs as well. The spacer and insert issue is my current puzzle. I'm still deciding whether to use them with the new springs. I think I will go with the original set up but the taper on the white inserts is not identical to the tail on the KYB spring so I will rotate it to get the best fit. I want to keep the tabs of the original spring seat. Its all such a laugh. I bet only the fitters who built the spring assemblies years ago know all the different configurations and which is right. I have studied as many pictures and spring assemblies as I can. The more you look and think about it the more confusing it is. Just my view to add to the debate.
@ToTheGarage10 ай бұрын
Hi Steve. Though not an XKR yours may have optional CATS active dampers (wire going to the top of the damper) If so then that would still suggest that the spacers are associated with the XKR and other cars with the upgraded Dampers.?
@steveduffy128910 ай бұрын
@@ToTheGarage Hi John. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. No definitely not a CATS equipped car. I have an S type R with CATS and definitely not fitted to the XK8. I bit the bullet on Friday and assembled the new KYB springs with the original packing piece and one spacer. Due spring rates etc I think it is impossible to calculate the spacer effect. I decided trial and error is the only way. By the way I used a stand up spring compressor in a friends professional garage. So much faster and easier than the bolt on spring compressors. Just for feed back there was minimal distortion of the top mounts with the Baxtor inserts. I really feel that there is a problem with the quality of the top mounts currently available. Good luck and really appreciate your channel. Would have started my own but little point with the likes of yourself, Simon, Modural etc. Kind regards.

I wasn’t going to watch these, as I’m unlikely to be doing this work, but I’m finding it all quite fascinating. As a three parter, it’s certainly a lot more interesting than the shite put out by the British Brainwashing Company or the clowns on the other sides.

I bought a pair of front lower “Banana Arms” for my S Type from British Parts which produced a clunk when dabbing the brakes. B Parts would not refund me unless I gave them back the parts for testing, so my evidence would disappear. The large rubber bushes in the arms were supposed to be Hydra bushes, not solid rubber!! I will not use B Parts ever again. I met an ex member of B Parts staff a while back who told me that some of their copy parts are made in Turkey.

Must admit I have been getting more parts from SNG Barratt lately (when they are not charging through the roof prices)
