Just did my first Tough Mudder (I only did a 5K cause i',m a wimp). It was the one in New Jersey. One difference from the one you filmed - on my course we had a LOT of mud. VERY, VERY thick and sticky mud, my shoes almost got pulled off several times, and at one point I barely managed to extract my leg. The thicker mud would stick, and the thinner or more watered down mud was crazy slippery. Made all the mud obstacles very hard.
@OCRKings3 жыл бұрын

No worries, you are going to do great! They may or may not have the log carry at your event, and any obstacle you can't do, it's no problem, there are no penalties. How is the electric eel? I’ve a massive anxiety of getting electric shock - that I avoid traffic lights and lifts as I always get shocked 😒
@OCRKings2 жыл бұрын
There is a method to beat the electric eel. Pick a lane and stay in between the wires - not under them. If you can find a lane that is dry (has no water), even better. Keep you arms in close and don't spread your feet apart. Most people get shocked in the legs because there legs and feet are spread wide apart. If you do get shocked, it's not too bad. It's not like the electric chair or anything, you'll be fine!

Finished rugged maniac last Saturday and now tough mudder this Saturday!! Is it worth dealing with the electric eel with the water puddles ?
@OCRKings3 жыл бұрын
If you don't feel comfortable doing that one, skip it! There are no penalties (usually). If you're not feeling it, go around! It's best to have fun at Tough Mudder, so do what works for you. If you do try it, my advice would be to keep your legs together, not like me in this video. I had my feet spread way apart, and almost touched one of the wires. If you keep your legs together, you should be able to fight right in the void between the wires. Stay low and take your time if you do it. Either way, good luck at your race and have a great time out there!

With this obstacles that includes more water. Do you recommend a shoes that is made to be used alot in water than trail running shoes?
@OCRKings3 жыл бұрын
We would recommend shoes that have good drainage. The water is going to get in, no matter what, and having shoes that don't drain will get very heavy on your feet. Shoes with drainage holes will let the water out, and will continue to drain as you run. Hope this helps!

Tough mudders are just fun. You are guaranteed to have a great time! You have youth on your side and you can run as fast as you are comfortable with. I recommend trail running when you can. It gets your shoes muddy and gets you using all sorts of leg/ankle/foot muscles keeping you in balance. It's also no where near as boring as running around a track! Obstacles are the fun part. Most are pretty easy. Watch a few people do them successfully to get ideas on how to approach them. A few require decent upper body strength that pullups and pushups can really help with. Some obstacles have penalties for failing them and some don't. No biggie if you do fail. Give them all a try and if you fail, just move on and crush the next one! Best of luck! These races are so much fun and great motivation. So glad to hear you are joining the Mudder Nation!

Excellent idea! Tough Mudder is great for team building. Teamwork and camaraderie are what Tough Mudder sells itself on. It might be a good idea to consider the 5k version toughmudder.com/tough-mudder-5k/. These have 13 obstacles, many of which it takes two or more people working together to complete. Hope this helps! Curious, was it required to roll under the barbed wire? Or do people crawl and/or roll through that obstacle?

Great question! The answer is no, you are absolutely not required to roll under the wire. It just turns out that it is easier and faster to do so however. When rolling, though, make sure to change directions every 3-4 rolls so that you don't get insanely dizzy.

You certainly don't have to be in a group - even though these events are always more fun with friends. Some obstacles might require help from other racers, but everyone is always very cool. Anyone can do a tough mudder. Training or not. You go at your own pace and try every obstacle. You fail, move on and try the next one. We like trail hikes and runs and you can do them today! Gets you outside and moving, feels great, and is the first step. You can do it!

This doesn't seem like it'll be too fun for a first time runner doing a solo run.. I'm supposed to go to Pittsburgh next weekend by myself but there are so many obstacles reliant on teamwork & I'm not in the best of shape either.. starting to think maybe to just cancel till I get in better shape =-/
@OCRKings3 жыл бұрын
Whoa... hold, on there... I think you can totally do this. Solo or not. Better with friends, but there are plenty of races where it was just Mack or myself and they are still fun AF. Even being a new runner. No problem! Walk when you need to, jog when you can, and run when the elevation dips downhill and you can use that downhill advantage. Tough Mudder has moved away from the real team type obstacles due to covid (Pyramid for example) and everyone works together nicely at the blockness monster obstacle where many people are necessary to spin the obstacle. I think you should do this one... and signup for another race. Set the bar next weekend, then come back in better shape and crush your time. Please post if you go. Would love to hear how it turned out and what you think.

Waste of money. TWO MONTHS later and still being fobbed off with "we've had an unprecedented volume of calls" - hardly surprising the way you treat your customers!
