My guess is it's psychosomatic at this point. They're so used to being cursed blind/deaf/mute that their brains aren't registering the change anymore, so the senses haven't returned. This may reverse itself in time. They may need a bit of help though. I like to head-canon that Corn was actually working on a solution for that issue in hopes that they would be free one day, and has them set aside somewhere.

Ixtilton voice reveal! Hooray! Also I love how Xochipili and Xochiquetzal cover one another in terms of communicating what's going on with Xochipili speaking for her when non-ASL fluent people are present, and Xochiquetzal re-iterating what's been said by others to Xochipili. Also Xochipili holding Ixtilton's hand while walking, that's sweet. I love these siblings.

I wonder how it'll end up working, if it's going to completely wipe away the injury and disability that follows with it, or if it'll be more of a prosthetic case. I do hope for the latter, since having disabilities wiped is a frightfully common thing, though it might potentially make more sense for it to just heal the injury.

It's a little sad thinking about exactly how each of the siblings can and cannot understand and communicate with each other. Xochiquetzal and Xochipili can communicate and understand each other well enough but Ixtlilton gets the short end of the stick. He can speak to Xochiquetzal but cannot see her sign. Whereas Xochipilli cannot hear him speak but can speak to him, though maybe lip reading would work Ixtilton would still need a way to first communicate the intent to speak. It's like a really wonky game of rock paper scissors, I can't help but wonder how much it must've changed their dynamic as siblings.

I don't know how much it changed their dynamics, but I *can* say that Ixtilton was already a black sheep of the family, so this unforeseen communication disconnect... actually kind of makes sense. thankfully, I'm pretty sure they all loved each other before and after sealing the black ick away (side note, holy crap I have forgotten a lot of what's happened so far... oh well, time for another rewatch :D )

I love that the animation and style has stayed the same for over a decade. This channel was one of the first I followed out of high school, and the fact it's still sub 100k is criminal in my opinion. I pray this series takes of virally at some point and Betsy can get up there with Hazbin, Digital Circus and (most likely) Dungeon Flippers.

For anyone curious: The Aztecs believed that the Earth was formed by the gods using the body of Cipactli, a gigantic beast with mouths covering its entire body that would eat anything they tried to create before hand. They couldn't fully kill Cipactli though, and instead keep it placated with human sacrifice. And I'm betting that Betsy is working some world building angle of Chupacabras being the spawn of Cipactli, seeing as they come from the Earth in this.

I stopped believing in Aztec human sacrifice allegations after I learned that they considered Germanic heathens to do it too, you know, "headhunting" where they collected heads from the fallen (and thighbones). But it was not their enemies, but their own, to keep in the afterlife. The skull is obviously very important, carries the brain in it and all that, and...well... you'd like at least one leg to stand on in the spirit world, right? What also strengthened by doubt was the art that depicted it. It was the same crude low quality art you could find in the west done by the abrahamic colonizers. There's a reason why the arts got so much better after the renaissance where native artists shrugged off the foreign shackles of that awful sect for at least a little bit. And it's a missionary sect, too. Its doctrine is to eradicate indigenous faiths, and if eradication does not work, warping and decrying it. Of course the Aztecs had to be savage like that. "They didn't know God.".
