Howdy friend- your cabin looks great! There will always be something you will want to do or change as you go along. That’s part of the journey of doing a cabin build for yourself. Here in the States in the old days people would build the log part of their cabin and build on later as was necessary. I recently looked at a house that had been built completely around a log cabin that was built in the mid 1800’s. It was the first time I had seen logs that old that had absolutely no damage at all. The logs were still perfect. Thank you for the tour. God bless you

1. On the stove side of your ladder shelves, you could put thick flexible clear plastic flaps about 1.5-2" wide--overlapping them maybe 1/4" to give you access yet keep most of the dirt out of your goods. 2. If you put a drain pipe from the sink outside, you could put screening over the end of the pipe to keep insects & mice out.
@PenniacWilderness3 жыл бұрын
Really good idea! Thank you so much. Clever and simple.
@BWOSHR3 жыл бұрын
@@PenniacWilderness You are certainly welcome. On the screen over a drain pipe--a simple screen secured with a moderately thick wire might allow you to take it off & clean it if it started clogging up with bits of stuff in the drain water. Or, alternately, keeping a screen in the bottom of the sink would likely work, too.

yes, an extension on the side would be nice..do it 10x12 minimum..it s not work to do it a bit bigger..as for the roof slope...consider putting in a cathedral ceiling like the cabin with the roof ridge, perpendicular to the cabin..that way you get extra height and also better steeper slopes than if you were prolonging the slope of the current roof..put salvaged 5-inch urethane panels on the roof or old garage doors that are insulated..lots of them around..leave the wood planks and joists apparent, put in a ceiling fan for ambiance and utility in the guest bedroom..consider using 2 french doors swiveling doors into it...or two nice wood louvered doors (recycled) ..great look that is timeless..
@PenniacWilderness3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Andre! Great thoughts. I like the ideas you have shared. I like the idea of cathedral ceiling with the roof ridge beam, I think that is the way I plan to go. I had never heard about the garage door idea!
@andreewert11423 жыл бұрын
@@PenniacWilderness not a garage door..a french door ..opens like a swinging door and opens the space up but you can still close it , for privacy and Heating reasons..and you can find a ton of used french doors in Salvage yards..french doors have glass in them..like at Versailles..but to stay true to the cabin feel, ideally find them in raw wood and varnish or wax them.

I know you're debating a stand-alone vs attached addition for get-togethers. I might ask myself if I'd use the extra space when alone or w/'mate'. I'd probably enjoy the option of having another space easily accessible instead of having to go out then in. But, on the other hand, cutting more openings into your beautiful dovetail walls seems kinda sad! I loved the idea someone else had of a cathedral ceiling. Maybe add a big harvest table? Your dream though, and so far I'm impressed by all your choices. Cheers from Ohio.
