I love the historical and elegant homes...it takes a very talented architect to do modern successfully...but this gorgeous home is pure class. Almost simple in appearance until you look at the details and craftsmanship. Is this really only 12 million?...I was expecting a heck of a lot more for this home in this location in the most vibrant city in North America.

I second your sentiments! know to some this townhouse seems dark and stuffy, but oh how I miss dark, polished floors, coffered ceilings, wide millwork, elaborate windows and ornate fixtures! It’s those details that make me pause and reflect on the skill and pride of those craftsmen who carved the wood, created the windows and modeled the plasterwork.... Old New York was built not just to impress, but to create design elements worthy of surviving that era ...things that others would be proud to inherit and want to retain - and be motivated to maintain. When today’s age has passed, what of merit will we have to show for it? That’s what I often wonder.

That house is an artifact from another era., the mahogany, the stained glass, that shower bath in front of the fireplace. When you throw in that kitchen, this is the house that Lauren Ambrose as Dorothy buys after surviving the Servant. It's the sort of environment in which you would have grown up if your last name were Bush, Mellon or Roosevelt. It's literally the remains of old money, WASP aristocracy gone with the wind.

The bath/shower dates back to the 1920s. Very few homes could afford to have such a luxurious item. The garden is probably the same size as the average house gaeden in London. The whole house is very elegant but you forgot to state the asking price

Amazing home. Truly divine. I just do not understand the fascination some people with big cities because the moment I stepped out on that terrace I would be depressed with the landscape. Gilded birdcage, indeed. I get it. To each their own on what environment makes you tick though. This is definitely someone's dream and I do not blame them. However, FDR had it right with his cottage nestled in the woods of Warm Springs Ga.

I’d love to know what was there during Eleanor Roosevelt’s time and what’s been changed since. Not all of the elements, like the kitchen, appear to be original. A lot to like about this place, and I would want to be true to its history, but I would also refresh some of the spaces while respecting the history. There is a lot of brown going on. Perhaps cut back on some of the brown furniture so that the pieces and woodwork don’t blend into each other. Becomes a bit dreary at times.

My husband's family is related to the Roosevelt family and although I personally am not a fan of Eleanor Roosevelt, I do love the Eleanor House. Having just toured a San Francisco townhome (totally tastelessly decorated) and now comparing this home, there's just no comparison. This home is incredibly tastefully decorated. Perhaps it's the East Coast background I have, but this decor is just awesome and incomparable!

It's an antique. Great sales job by Serhant. But fact Elenor Roosevelt lived there seems beside the point of buying a house, but I guess name identity sells. Remember George Costanza buying John Voight's car in Seinfeld, except the actor spells his name "Jon". If you want to live in another time, this is a place. Also, I love how Serhant says "I have to show you MY bathroom here." So it's Serhant's bathroom? Great.
