In todays episode we toured the famous ´´House on the air´´by the star architect Fran Silvestre, and it was an unbelievable experience.
Here, coming from the architect himself, a few words to describe the property:
With this starting point, the architecture is arranged almost like a mechanism to protect ourselves while capturing the spectacle offered by our surroundings.
Due to its sloping terrain, the structure appears as a piece of architecture deposited in the environment. The site is prepared with a sort of foundation made from the grey tonality of the stones found in the surroundings; in fact, the name Zahara comes from the Arabic Sahara, which could be translated as a “rocky place”.
This foundation allows the house to be settled at the necessary level to ensure the view of the sunset reflection in the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.
At the opposite side, we find a quiet courtyard that provides shelter for the strong winds of Tarifa, this courtyard also leads to the complementary rooms of the house.
As if the upper floor was dropped over the plinth, the residence is divided into three areas. The main area is the living room. Entirely passing between the northwest, where the magical sunset takes place, and the southeast where no structural element interferes with the interior space and the landscape.
On both sides are the night areas with the same orientation. This arrangement balances the structure and gives privacy to the main room.
A simple architecture embedded in a place where any sensitive observer will be able to enjoy all the colours.

Das Design und das Grundkonzept des Hauses gefallen mir ausgesprochen gut - erinnert alles sehr an das Bauhaukonzept. Einziger Makel, der "Wohnklotz" ist zu schmal. Dadurch ist auch der lange Gang, der die Schlafräume verbindet, viel zu schmal. 1 Meter mehr wäre perfekt gewesen. Dann wäre auch der Eingang vom Garagenplatz aus durch den größeren Überhang überdacht gewesen. Eure Tour war ausgesprochen gut gelungen und hat die Stimmung perfekt wiedergegeben. Ich kenne die Entwicklung und es ist wunderschön dort.

Ahhh at the opening shot I already knew where you guys were! Atlanterra! I have been to Zahara on holiday in 2003 (all the way from the Netherlands by car) and with my dad I climbed the hill there to see the second line of these villas being build 🙈 Such a nice place! Would love to go back one day

too minimalistic for my taste. some thing don't make sense lik having the open-bath with a huge window in front of the pool and social area. some times it's good to sacrifice form in order to gain function. the retaining wall and the view are beautiful though

Totally different intro... Super retro right down to the Tommy Bahama shirt. Well done. Fits perfectly with the style of this modern-retro design. But.... What missed opportunity to use that boring flat top roof! Put up a solar array and this home could literally be off grid. Come on... In that climate, it's a no-brainer. You'd never have to pay a Euro for heating, lighting, etc...

I really wanted to like this property, but I’d have to say it’s style over function. The layout is all over the place, you enter through the back of the property!? The master bedroom has no command over the property, stuck in the corner. The grand driveway leads you to a plane wall, the lack of overhangs means the Sun must cook you like a Dutch oven. I know the architect was after minimalism but the design missed so many great opportunities.

Schöner Plot aber das Haus ist mal gar nicht meins, weder vom Layout noch vom Interior. Unpraktisch, ungemütlich, unpersönlich, steril. Im Backyard würde ich mich fühlen wie im Gefängnishof... schauderhaft! Und zu allem Überfluss keine Garage, nichtmal ein überdachter Carport. Bei DER Hitze die Autos in der prallen Sonne parken?? No way! Das kann der Blick alles nicht aufwiegen. Aber Geschmäcker sind ja verschieden...
