Been here over a year, and yes, last time they asked the questions. Why are you staying so long? Do you have a wife or family here? They even asked me if I have a girlfriend. But, now I know they are being instructed to ask these questions. I felt his attitude to be neutral, and he did not seem motivated to not let me extend. I answered, he nodded, and I got the extension. He did not ask me to switch to another visa.

There is also the Special Investor's Resident Visa (SIRV). You need to invest a minimum of $75,000 USD in a Philippines publicly traded company to get the permanent visa but as I am years away from the retirement visa and it's something I am looking into once I am there and more established and don't want to worry or reply on the tourist visa requirements (renewals, exit clearance, exit tickets, etc).
@bigdog43422 ай бұрын
Because of this added scrutiny, I attempted to complete an Online Visa Extension Application thru Immigration Website where I am already registered. I was Declined and advised to make an actual in person visit to an office. I have been here five years, not married, and it would be a real PUSH to deposit the $10K for the SRRV if required, which would leave me no emergency funds for medical or home travel if needed. I am 74 years old, and want to live here without returning back to USA to live, where its is not adorable for me.

Can you explain it please, because if you lived there for 1.8 years how come you now have a 2 month visa?
@SirMikeMiller2 ай бұрын
@@chocolatecookie8571you are only allowed a two month visa extension on a tourist visa now. You use to be able to get a 6 month extension but they quit offering that. So now, everyone on a tourist visa must go in every two months to get an extension unless you get a 13a or SRRV (Special Resident Retiree Visa). You are allowed to stay up to three years before you have to exit the country but you must complete an exit interview. Exit interviews are required if you stay over six months and wish to leave so most of us take a short trip to Thailand or Vietnam at 5.5 months to avoid the exit interview and to reset our tourist visa. An exit interview is required if you stay 6 months in country.

Wow, everywhere is getting expensive. I gladly go back to the USA every 6 months. I had no questions on my 1st tourist Visa extension. Sounds like it's not going to ne a problem for those who regularly leave. Since housing inflation is over 5% in the USA and may spike if the interest rates drop, it makes sense to me that keeping a USA residence is vital. So be careful with the decision to sell your home guys. Owning a house can save money and secure your future in the Philippines. Looking to the future, I also think SSI will decrease by 30% and the dollar will fall as the Fed lowers interest rates to save the economy. I know it's not welcome news. But it seems that most Vloggers don't report bad news because it doesn't help their algorithm.
@anandvora44812 ай бұрын
I think 3 years continuous stay as a tourist is a very liberal policy. It was a matter of time before it is amended. But they also need to be flexible with the SRRV. Like being able to apply while outside the Philippines. Another rigid requirement that I just found out is that proof of a pension/SS/annuity is required. I don't plan to apply for SS till age 70, which means I'm precluded from applying for SRRV till that time!

$60 usd for a room in Tokyo is pretty good even though it’s sort of small. I once stayed in a hotel in Hong Kong that was literally 8’ X 8’ (including the bathroom). I’m 5’11” and my head was able to touch one wall and my feet the other when I was laying on the bed. The shower was a wand that hung over the toilet. That room was $35/night back in 1999. I stayed there for 3 weeks.

Gio, I've lived in Tokyo for circa two decades now. That is your typical Japanese businessman hotel room. Before Covid, that room would have cost 4000 yen. Since Covid, hotels have skyrocketed, mostly due to the weak yen and number of foreign tourists entering the country with their own strong currency. It really squeezes the locals. That said, overall costs living in Tokyo is cheap. My apartment (East side of Tokyo) which is far larger than that hotel goes for $500/month. While here, you may want to hit Yoyogi Park, Shinjuku, Harijuku, the dog which is so famous at Shibuya, Asakusa (Get there via the Tsukuba Express), and perhaps Ginza the shopping district. Ueno Park too is a nice place and not far from where I'm at.

Gio I literally just sold everything and moved here , I’m 38 years old , never been in the military, I’m not married or even dating anyone yet, so the tourist visa is literally the only option I have . I took advice that they’re not gonna change the tourist visa but now there’s issues. I cant afford to hop all over the world I came here because I’m disabled and the warmer weather, cheap cost of living, people speak English, very friendly, that’s why I came here. I literally have no other options. There’s nothing to go back to in the US that’s why I left. The cost is so high that I couldn’t afford to live there. I had to leave. What do I do just marry a woman here to get the 13A? If they don’t give any options for a permanent visa than I can’t do anything. Thailand is taxing income . Every other county you have to keep leaving and coming back and they wanna know why you’re returning again. Would love some solid advice, because the advice I got before coming here isn’t worth much if they keep changing laws. In that case a permanent visa isn’t even guaranteed that they won’t change that and start revoking them. How do you make your hone here if it’s always at risk of being taken?
@jayb15902 ай бұрын
@smllville007 If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t worry about it. They won’t question you much unless you’ve stayed in the Philippines for one consecutive year. What I would advise you to do is to leave the country 2-3 days before the 6 month mark so that you don’t have to do the exit clearance. Stay in Thailand or Malaysia for a couple of days and then fly back.. your entry record will be reset to zero again. Try to meet a good Filipina in the meantime and after doing the aforementioned trick 2-3 times, you can consider getting married to get the 13A.

The Philippines is moving in the direction of the US and other Asian countries like Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. Obviously, you can’t be a tourist here forever !! A memo recently issued by the BI requires immigration officers to verify an alien’s personal information submitted in the extension form. Address, rent/lease, source of livelihood, etc. An in person interview may also be required. In the US - the most a tourist can stay is 6 months. Then you have to leave the US - not a visa run. We are headed towards that direction to preserve our country and screen all undesirables.
