From their 1973 album, "Tower of Power" this was their biggest hit to date, making it to Number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100's. The lyrics cover the heartbreak of a relationship ending with brilliant vocals so soulful and sweet. Their superlative musicianship has the ability to effortless shift from one genre to another. The guitars so lovely and the horns, my oh my, so outstanding. 🎺🎺🎺 Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

1974 they were a"crossover" band 10 or 12 people in the band -everybody liked it -nobody did muted trumpets and solo trumpets -deep baritone saxophones like they did -you wont hear any "cover" to that song they broke the mold

The Providence Civic Center circa 1974. It was the lineup from "Back to Oakland." If you've ever been to the Civic Center, there are isles separating the seating. I also chatted with Greg Adams and asked him how Lenny Pickett hit those really high notes. He said "overtones." It's funny how you remember certain conversations.@@mikecavaretta2621

As a soloist trumpet player i would always key on the bass guitar and also the baritone sax. This baritone sax truly comes out with it's distinctive sound. There is quite nothing like it! FYI: Leonid & Friends perform a beautiful tribute to this song.

And "Soul Vaccination" and "Squib Cakes" might be worth a listen, too -- though for vocals, the latter only has a little two-word 'quote' of the title. But Chester Thompson's pedal-bass under his own organ solo is really something to behold. Thanks Cynthia!

The San Francisco Bay Area produced many fine bands, Tower of Power being one of them. I grew up in Marin (North San Francisco Bay Area)in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and there was no better place or time to do that. Indescribable memories of a time and place that is still being written about.

Want to know where else you've heard these guy's great horn section before? I know you've all probably heard this song a million times since it's release and rise to the top of the charts.....Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". Off the 1974 album Caribou, it was recorded at Caribou Ranch studios in CO, owned by James Guercio, another guy you've heard of......the producer of all those great Chicago early hits (also featuring a great horn section!)
