Back when I was in LE, a lot of operators would tell me picking up unattended stolen vehicles is almost as dangerous as repos. They never knew who might show up. It could be the owner who just wants their vehicle back, and doesn't want to pay the added tow/storage cost, or it could be the thief coming back to get rid of incriminating evidence. Please stay safe out there.

That has to be the first Challenge ever stolen that was brought back to the owner in one piece. They aren't that big of a deal up here in the north. Judging by police chases from Arkansas and Georgia, black Chargers and Challengers make up about 60% of the vehicles in those states.

That happens a lot where I live in Australia. It usually takes a few days for cars to be recovered and that allows them to be taken again. They don't care because they know they are covered under insurance and the insurance companies pay out. Usually they do get recovered eventually burnt out.

Criminal logic: Steal a top 15 fastest car and then not use it to get away instead of ditch it somewhere and leave on foot …. I’m no expert, but this doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. Why not take the car and hightail it out of there?

I was thinking the same thing. With the behavior of some people today that could have been a very unsafe situation for Ron. I understand the police are looking for the suspect but the safety of the tow company is also in their purview. Lesson for today, ask for the background on the call from dispatch before showing up to take the vehicle. Then wait for them to arrive to assure one's safety. Stay safe out there Midwest Truck.

I'm not sure if it would be the case here, but I've read that the "professional" car thieves will sometimes park a vehicle somewhere they think it might not be noticed, leaving it there for a while to see if it has a tracker and to let it cool off a little. I don't know that they would leave the keys in it, if they were doing that, as they don't want someone else to take it.

In my area there’s sort of an unwritten rule. If the police ask you to pick something up. You don’t do it unless they are ONSITE. If it’s in a sketchy area you go to somewhere safer and meet you there. Then they can escort you in.

One of my biggest fears since I started driving is having my vehicle stolen. None of my vehicles have ever been really 'flashy' until I bought my Challenger (2012 SXT). Because she does turn heads I don't daily drive her and she's garage kept with her windows up, doors locked and alarm activated (yes in the garage). I also park my truck (2000 S-10) nosed up to the garage door so it can't be opened to get my car out.

A sitatuion like that I would call PD and ask for them to check a plate or VIN for issues before hooking it up. A lot of those go to evidence lock up around here. We tow a stolen vehicle every two or so weeks and stolen motorcycles even more often it seems. Here, at least, if I give them the plate or VIN over the phone they'll run it and tell me whether they'll send an officer out. That tells me whether it's safe to tow. The bulk of them are usually parking violations it seems.

There is a reason you don't do repo... this is a close to such a call as it gets, and with a potential suspect on the loose. Would've been nice to know beforehand, to either bring backup with you or get the job done quicker (maybe both - like load and go with 2 points and the winch, and secure in a safe distance). Still, worked out, and aside from this risk was an "easy" winchout. Good job.

Alex is feeling somewhat ok. He has been tired more, which is caused by his kidneys not working as they should. However watching the channel has created interesting 1 sided conversations with him about what you are doing. This one created something he has heard in this area. Apparently he has heard conversations among other people that cars have been stolen a lot in the area. We really don't know how much he understands but he picks up everything and anything that is said around him. And he sometimes has an opinion about it.
