Everyone who drives a car should be required to watch this. Not so much for Tesla-specifics, but because the average car owner thinks towing, particularly on a tilt-bed, is a simpleton's job. In point of fact, the combination of experience plus understanding enough about physics (e.g., the difference between "momentum" and "gravity" as applied) is astounding. If nothing else, drivers who understand this will bitch less about the tow bill. Well done tow; exceedingly well done video.

What would you like most if you owned a TESLA. Free Towing ! I don't own a Tesla, my car is old, never been towed. ! Yes I had flat tyres, I have jack wheel spanner and spare. Yes I had a flat battery , a quick shove and off I went.

One of the hopeful scenarios people use to spin about EV's was that in a case like this, the roadside assistance guy just would charge up the disabled car's battery, and away the customer would go. Not feasible yet, I guess.

I know this video is a month old, but for Tesla vehicles, motor damage is only if the vehicle exceeds 5mph with the vehicle off or in neutral. You can definitely let the front wheels roll while being towed. As long as its under 5mph. Also, the front has a tow hook location in the front bumper drivers side. If pulled relatively straight, I have pulled them with rear tires locked without issue. You possibly could have had the owner remote start the vehicle to get it into tow mode. Unless its very broken.

I drive a Model Y which is the crossover version of the 3. There is a tow hook cover for a tow hook eye the rear bumper just as there is one in the front. It's on the lower half, unpainted portion of the bumper on the passenger side. And Tesla equiped their cars with a tow hook which is store in the frunk. I also just wanted to comment on how knowledgeable you are on the proper way of towing EVs and I for one am appreciative of that.

They’ve been trying this since the 1800s on making an electric car some people just need to wake up and smell the roses, but that’s OK cause lots of tow truck drivers make good money to haul them electric things around.

The problem is that the owner took the keys. If Dustin had the keys he could have easily winched the car onto his truck. Car must be in transport mode. The current fleet of EV's from all the mfg's seem like total POS's. They break down alot, and the useless mfg's do not put in ways for them to be easily towed front/rear. Perhaps your company should refuse to tow EV's or have a very large EV surcharge for dealing with the BS. Great job, that probably took 3x-5x longer than normal for you

I think you made it more complicated than you needed to. The danger of ruining an EV motor while towing comes from the motor overheating which won't happen letting the wheels roll over a few feet.

Still wrong. That’s not what the Tesla Towing procedure says. The procedure strictly states, if you can’t get the vehicle into tow mode, you must skate the drive tires. In this case, all 4.

Your correct it will damage the front motor if you drag a Model X/S but on a 3/Y they don’t have permanent magnet motors up front so it won’t hurt them to have the front wheels spin for 10ft loading it on a flatbed. My car doesn’t even have a front motor and Tesla still says you can only tow it on a flatbed when only towing it with the rear wheels off the ground would work fine.

If this owner drives till battery flat charge him big dollars to make up for his brain not following common sense. You didn't find tow mode ? Screen scrolls swiping up to allow wheels to turn. Tow hook in frunk with pop out panel in bumper.
