Fun fact: the Marie Anthoniette and her sister joke that Buzz made while drunk on tea is a reference to the French Revolution where Marie was the queen of France but was decapitated along with her sister by the guillotine. That’s why the dolls missing their heads add to the joke. That’s some pretty dark humor to add in a Pixar movie and I love it. Oh and remember the toy with the legs and fishing rod and hook? Think about that for a moment. 😂

I saw this in the theater in ‘95. It got a lot of buzz (no pun intended) because it was the very first fully CGI movie but people were surprised that besides the animation, the movie was actually really great. The writing, acting, music, is all top notch.

This was the first full length Animated film made entirely with computers and not only received a special Oscar for this achievement, but was also nominated for Best Original Song with "You've Got a Friend in Me" losing to Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas also losing Best Original Score Musical or Comedy to Poxlcahontas. As well as nominated for Best Original Screenplay, but unfortunately losing to Usual Suspects. In 2005 it was one of twenty five films selected for preservation of the National Film Registry for being "Culturally, Historically, or Aestically Significant".

You know how Stan Lee always cameod in his movies? Well here, in the Pixar movies, Joe Ratzenberger is the voice actor that likes cameos in these movies. You can hear his iconic voice as you watch more films they animated. He almost has a role in every film that they produced. Here, he voices Hamm.

Fun fact: Billy Crystal was originally offered the opportunity to voice Buzz but he turned it down because he thought this movie wouldn't be successful. He still regrets his decision to this day. Thing is though, these animated films aren't kids films. They're general audience films. There is a difference. Suitable for kids to watch, but not solely for kids. I personally never liked the notion that a film that doesn't take place in reality, or a film that doesn't feature sex, drugs, swearing, extreme violence, etc. is then a "kid's film". Not every adult enjoys that kind of more realistic, profane, or sexual entertainment.

From the toys point of view, Sid is a monster. But if you take it at face value, Sid's just a kid playing with _his_ toys the way _he_ wants to. And rebuilding them the way he does is pretty creative, he's basically making the toys he wants by reinventing other toys which is pretty cool. (Although his behavior at the arcade suggests that he might need a little discipline).

My hubs and I would just look over our son's head and mouth did they just say what I think they said? When rewatching stuff. Dreamworks and Pixar are really great about keeping adults/parents as entertained as the kids while have good themes to talk to your kids about. My autistic son rewatches his favorites on a loop. Some times the same scene over and over for weeks/months on end. So having it be decent entertainment helps. The teletubbies on a loop made me feel like someone had slipped me something. Imagine being the toy knowing you can move but are keeping yourself frozen while they die from the explosives or the dog or whatever! Things you don’t think about as a kid! 😎😎

"love this old Disney intro." T.T I feel old. Back in my day, there was no 3d Castle... It was 2D and there weren't no orchestra... And sometimes Tinkerbell would show up and tap the top of the castle so she could say it was in color.

Another adult joke I noticed in this movie is that one of Sid’s toys is a fishing rod with woman legs which is meant to represent a hooker. As a kid you think nothing of it but as an adult you become much more aware of these things.

Because of how many legos I own, I always used to leave my room and hope they came to life to play around when I wasn't there. Lego Star Wars sets were and still are my life... ❤ So I always imagined Star Wars action and fun going on in my room when I was at school

I’m still never gonna watch Lightyear. If you’re gonna watch all of the other Toy Story films (regrettably that now includes the atrocious 4th one), I’d say you could also watch a REAL Buzz Lightyear solo film. Look into “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins.” A childhood favorite of mine, right next to Toy Story 1 and 2.

What’s crazy is that I had the toy soldiers too and this movie made me addicted to playing with them so much I think it made me interested in defense strategy making me the gamer I am today. Also played linebacker in middle school and highschool and loved calling plays. Toy story all time favorite series.
