Toyota 86 2018 review

The Toyota 86 is a two door sports coupe that is now six years old. Competing against other affordable sporty cars like the Mazda MX-5 and Volkswagen Golf GTI, is the 2018 86 still the best way to spend thirty grand or so? Tom checks out the new 86 GTS Performance Pack to find out.

Great location near a certain Point where I used to live - set a few speed records in a 78 mini S 1.0, Sherpa 2 cylinder and more exotic stuff - love the review and 86/BRZ one of my faves alongside my 77 Corolla coupe - new cars too stiff - Rolla roll angles are the best or my very firm Megane RS265

Greeting from Northern California. I have a 2013 Scion FR-S which in the U.S. morphed into the Toyota 86. Still love it, very balanced, been reliable, held up well. Some people say it is underpowered but it has enough for me. I think Toyota is missing the boat by not also offering this car with a turbo which would probably be a big seller here in California.

Oh dear... My Mrs will be filthy! The 4 things she complains about with her 2014 GTS despite loving the car are the brakes not quite having enough bite, the suspension not being very forgiving, no steering wheel volume/track controls & no black wheel option. Toyota have fixed them all... it only took 4 years! Cheers for the review Tom... just not sure if I should show it to her or not 🤔

i just got one last saturday in black! it’s so fun even for 200 hp, it’s really not meant for just straight lines, i live on a canyon road and drive through it everyday and it’s just so fun and quick 😭🖤

Sure there are faster cars around but don't look as good as the 86/BRZ. You can drive this car to the limit and still keep you licence

@@chasingcars That would sadly rise the center of gravity quite alot. The boxer is pretty much the only current engine design that allows the 86 to behave like it does. A Wankel might also work, but we all know what happened to it...

I wonder what would happen if they dropped Subaru's flat 6 into these... I'm not so big on turbos but what if this was a 6 cylinder? Either Sub's flat 6 or the one in the Camry.

We don't get the Corvette here, but it seems like that would be a bit more of a blunt instrument than a Toyota 86…

The 86 is lower rent the Corvette ZR1 will have better fit and finish.. both are insanely fast cars

No spare wheel/tyre, just a tube of goo and a compressor. Subaru had this performance pack out about 18 months ago, it took Toyota long enough to follow. If only they'd fit some decent tyres.

Literally every review of the GT86 in the last 6 years said that the car is very good in every aspect except the engine/power situation. If they don't fix it in the next generation i will be very sad!

Tim Heuwinkel With new Headers and engine remap you loose the stupid power loss in the midband. Also upping the rev limiter cuts off nearly half a second to 60 because you wont need to shift into 3rd.

John Grytbakk for the target audience price and value, hp for this car is actually enough. Just need more torque somewhere between the middle rpm range. In my country, Toyota 86 is the more affordable sport car in years other than Korean offering. In an age where most sports car getting more and more expensive with every revision, Toyota 86 is a blessing to car enthusiasts
