Toyota gave me the same trouble Honda did, which was an attitude of "Well, these things sell themselves, so we don't have to make you happy." It's a big part of why I don't buy Toyota or Honda vehicles anymore.

@@bantizzle79 For real! I had a sun roof leaking on me on a 2015 RAV4. It was in the shop 4 times. No replacing it though. It was under warranty. When I called Toyota to complain, they were not sensitive to my issue. In fact, they were rude. It’s really a shame. 🥲

I was a Lexus master technician in Oklahoma. Sounds like your dealer sucks. I would’ve covered it under warranty if I was the technician. Very often techs will not turn something into the manufacture as a warranty repair because they don’t get paid a lot for that job. A lot of the time the manufacturer would cover it, but the tech sucks.
@cw4623
@cw4623 2 ай бұрын
True. But that's the manufacturer's incentive for paying so poorly for warranty work: as disincentive for techs to actually repair it. They know that techs won't want to do the work since it pays so poorly, so they know they won't have to cover it. I've had this experience many times with techs. "Unable to duplicate" bullshit.

All sun roofs leak. I can’t understand how nobody cleans the gutters and drains. It’s all the same crap that clogs your homes gutters and downspouts. Most vehicles you can just blow the drains out with some compressed air. I went through this pain in my Ram 3500. Be glad you only have the sun roof that leaks, that truck had a total of 9 leak points that needed to be cleaned every year.

I don't know about new Land Cruisers but the the sunroof isn't sealed on mine. The sunroof cassette has internal drains that drains any water through the A and B pilars to the ground. It is almost impossible to seal a sunroof at the roof to prevent water intrusion, and this is why they use a cassette and have drains. Sometimes those drains get blocked and you then have water issues at the roof.

Yes, this lc200 was designed in 2008. It like all other toyotas with regular sunroofs take the controlled leak approach. It has worked on my 2001 sequoia flawlesslyfor 23 years. I first believed this guy when the 1st one failed that it was a one off, yet 2 failing on toyotas best built vehicle that they make. If this was a issue, toyota would've known about and rectified it long ago. And we'd hear about it by now as a common issue with so many lc200s being sold around the world. Has me thinking this guy might be at fault, maybe tree sap or might be the wrap, either way 2 failing with it being a unheard of issue and the common denominator being the owner.

I don’t see why Toyota deserves any “Grace” in this issue. With the amount of times their trucks have been famously failing on other KZbin channels like TFL & Truck King, you would think that the company would be bending over backwards to correct your issue, which is obviously a manufacturing defect. No precept for the RAV4. Under the time/mileage warranty the rear hatch hinge actually crumpled. Toyota said they were not covered under warranty because the think that we closed the hatch on something and broke the hinge. Then the sunroof mysteriously shattered, again Toyota would not warranty because they said it was our fault. Both problems are well documented to occur on RAV4’s. Until now I was ride or die. Now not so sure. I ordered a 24 Land Cruiser base model without the sunroof. I hope this purchase doesn’t come back and bite me in the rear. I fell your pain Ben - sell sell sell!

I had a similar experience with my wife's RAV4. Roof rack seals failed, water got in and caused 11-12K worth of damage where the dealer had to strip the interior, replace the wiring harness and replace a few electronic components. Toyota is an anti-customer company. Look at how they're handling the V35A engine recall. Instead of giving customers the full new replacement engine they deserve. They're just sending out small blocks and making dealer techs do engine rebuilds. Which is simply going to lead to even more problems down the line for those impacted customers but by that time Toyota can wipe their hands clean of it. And well... the customers don't seem to be as vocal about this mistreatment as other brand buyers will be. Because Toyota buyers bought a Toyota because of the reliability reputation and people don't want to be wrong. Its so hard to find out what is real and isn't real with that crowd when researching used Toyotas. Especially any of the BOF products. Its like they've built a mythology around it and its only somewhat tied to reality.

@@PeakDecline ...but they did it. All recalls are a no choice situation. It is either that or get sued. That's how all companies do it. They calculate how much it would cost them in lawsuits versus the recalls and they then make the choice. This is why GM has never recalled their failing 5.3L V8 engines since 2007. They have a near 100% failure rate of camshaft, lifters, seals causing the owner to spend in Bidenflation numbers $7,000 to repair. Hey Ben I just might know your problem with the land cruiser. I follow the car care nut (certified Toyota mechanic for a whole lot of years). There is a drain for the water to go to from the sunroof to the A piller. If it gets clogged it will cause rust in the area you pointed to in your video. Jeff

Ben, I've owned an '18 LC200 for five years now - no issues. It seems that maybe, just maybe both your LC 200s which have been either repainted or wrapped could be the issue... That green is not a standard color and is probably the reason your warranty won't cover the repair...

Gee, "somehow" a vehicle with a big HOLE in the roof was getting water leaking in. Vehicles that are built to go off road where the TWISTING forces and torque on the frame and body try to flex the frame, body and roof should not have a big HOLE in the roof. Paying twice as much for a Land Cruiser over a Wrangler makes no sense to me.

You are absolutely wrong with your comment on American warranty companies being more willing to cover repairs. FCA has denied all my warranty claims which were clearly manufacturing issues on their end. Warranties are a joke. All warranty companies and dealerships are in the business of making money, not paying out.

Toyota is having major issues with newer models. From Tacomas, Tundra, Land Cruiser… basically the only safe Toyota vehicles right now are the Camry & Corolla. Any other has engine, transmission, paint, air bags and wiring/electrical problems. Even under warranty, Toyota refuses to address some issues. So much for long term reliability. 😂

I agree 100% Toyota today is not the same company it was back in 2010 or so. I normally drive Honda CRV's. I'm only looking to purchase a 2012-2014. The newer ones just won't hold up like the older ones. The only company from my research that has gotten better with time is Mazda. I have looked at a few CX5's and they are quite nice.

Man I feel for ya brother! I have a 2020 Lexus LX 570 (the Lexus version of the Land Cruiser) and it has been flawless. We are at 89,451 miles as of today and not one thing has gone wrong or bad. $8,000 for something like that is a complete gut punch. Personally, I would not fix it and I would just verify everything is sealed and keep going. Now, not saying this is the case, but do you park under a tree or is there debris that gradually falls on your vehicle? It sounds like you have the classic clog issue on the sunroof that backed up and got water inside of the roof. To have two vehicles in the same place fail like that....could be environment I am just throwing it out there.

You need to find a good mechanic that can read PCM codes and wiring schematics, it could be another issue causing the air bag light to come on. Since Covid the quality of dealership mechanics has plummeted, their technicians following set procedures and don’t go beyond that, and if the dealership is under staffed they may just blow you off. I would like to see you get a second opinion and made a video on that. Good luck.

What are you talking about. I had Toyota replace my clutch in my 2023 GR86 when it went out after only 2000 miles. Clutch was fried. Initially they said no and dealer only covered parts at first but I submitted a claim through their website after and they reimbursed me for the whole repair. They easily could have saved said I fried the clutch. I’m sure everyone’s experience is different and you’re dealing with a vehicle that’s no longer being produced and that might play a role. Try submitting all your receipts through their website to their warranty department and make your case. They might pay you.

You dont need a diferent car. You need a better service advisor/dealer. I have worked many years with dealers, and that does not make sense. Call toyota directly. Well question is do you have only powertrain warranty? Because airbags are definitely not powertrain. This seems like a goodwill situation. But once again call toyota directly.

Mate i have a 2017 LC200 in South Africa, mine also had the airbag light on because of a low battery, after replacing the battery it stayed on for a day or two, just take it for a couple of miles drive to fully recharge the new battery, it is likely to disappear on its own, unless of course it is caused by corroded wires under the sun roof, mine does not have a sunroof, but its the VX top of the range trim in SA. An airbag light might be a far less issue to worry about than an engine light in the Granadier, but hey we all see car faults differently.

I think you should get the Official response from the dealership. If it's the same as your 1st one I'd look at the lemon laws of your state and maybe seek an opinion from an attorney that specializes in it. Remember, this is a safety issue, and approach it from that standpoint. Fed. laws may come into play. And just go from there. IMHO Toyota is WRONG not to honor their warranty with you! IF it costs $8000 to repair your issue it may make sense to involve an attorney...and then seek reimbursement of your legal expenses from Toyota via your attorney. I'm not a lawyer...

Over the past 20 years my wife and I've purchased 10 new Toyotas. Today I found out Toyota has started giving campaign contributions to the likes of Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauern Boebert, and numerous other 2020 Maga election deniers. Needless to say, our plans to purchase a new Toyota this fall have changed to purchasing a new Honda. I refuse to support a company that supports Trump's obedient sycophants who praise Russia and Vladimir Putin while seeking to destroy America's Democracy in favor of an extreme right-wing authoritarian style government controlled solely by Donald Trump.

Toyota has always pushed back on major warranty work. You need to escalate it to the regional service manager. I know people who have threatened legal action as well. The sad fact is that every car manufacturer including Toyota is going to have issues with electrical components after about 5 years or so. You can buy a 3rd party warranty specifically to cover electrical components and technology which is usually more effective at getting things covered than trying to do it under the OEM bumper to bumper warranty.
