I am only into a week of leasing the BZ4X, so I've only used a DC faster charger twice. The first time, it took about 90 minutes to go from 50% to 90% and I had the auxiliary power on where the dashboard was showing something like 5 hrs to fully charge. However, after looking into more information about onboard chargers and how they are designed to prevent damaging the lithium batteries, two very important considerations: 1. The charging will significantly slow down once the battery level reaches 80%. 2. Don't turn on the auxiliary power while charging unless absolutely necessary. The auxiliary power comes from a 12 volt battery in many EV'S because all interior electric needs run off a different voltage. After learning this, I returned to the same DC fast charger which had a Chevy Bolt charging on the left side. Both cars started charging at about the same battery level and I stopped charging at 80%. It only took 48 minutes.

Toyota has always tried to make its cars as reliable as possible. for this reason, there is an explanation for this case. the manufacturer tried to maximize the battery life. yes, charging is not exactly fast, but the car can be charged at night, and this is suitable for most owners. after all, the battery is the most expensive part of the car.

Thank you Eric. I'm still convinced about my EV move, but I clearly chose the wrong car for my first EV move. I've fast charged the Ioniq 5 twice now without any planning (battery preconditioning) and I've hit the maximum capacity of those chargers. Very pleased with it and I'm disappointed Toyota is aiming for longevity and not charging performance.

I went from Prius 08 to Plugin Prius 12 to Tesla S 15 to Tesla S 18 and back to RAV4 Prime '21. Owning a BEV in Canada has a lot of limitations, mainly in winter. I feel for ya, I got extremely frustrated with my Teslas because the quality was bad and needed frequent repairs.

The best EV car on the market. After recent update the car goes 20% more. I have 2 cars BZ4X and very happy with them. After 10 years let's talk about batteries in your ionic 5 or 6 or 7. Toyota cares about long life battery, not fast charging.

I own an Bz4x here in Romania ( awd 150kw Panasonic batteries) i have no issue with fast charging ( those 2 fast charges allowed by the software), I think that maybe it's a problem with the Catl batteries, but as long as it's a software limitation Toyota can improve it and I hope that in May they will do this through the promised update. I got 142kw (4 degrees outside temp) at a 150kw fast charger station.

I am in the US, and have the AWD Bz4X as well. I don't think I've seen over 60 kW on DC fast charging, ever, and I know some of our DC fast charging sessions were at 50F (10C). Unfortunately my nearest DC fast chargers that go over 50kW are 40-45 minutes' drive away, so I normally rely on home charging, but between the slow charging and the throttle when charging more than 2 0-80% cycles' worth (at which point, it throttles to 13 kW or slower!)... I wonder if the North American AWD version got these batteries because DC infrastructure is so much worse, and maybe we would chalk it up to the cold.

@@thekat-dg9fx I usually charge at home with type 2, I charge with DC only on holidays, yesterday I charged at a 150kw station with 48kwh, but the battery was at 52%, probably if I reached 20% I would charge with over 100kwh, the outside temperature was 5 degrees

I was surprised when I saw you bought the BZ4X but I figured you wanted to stick with Toyota for the channel or out of loyalty. I figure this will be what happens with the BZ4X, people buying it because they love Toyotas but finding out its not a very good EV. I think this will hurt Toyota’s transition to electric. I own a 2021 Rav4 Prime SE, which is why I started watching this channel. It’s a great car and I have no practical reason to switch to a BEV, but the Ioniq 5 is definitely my favorite. I’ve been watching the local dealerships here in Oregon and they are still charging $5,000 to $7,000 over MSRP the the top AWD trim which is called a Limited here. I think Hyundai hit it out of the park with the Ioniq 5 so I think you made a great choice. I can get a top trim EV 6 for a few grand under MSRP, but although I like it, I’d always be looking over at the Ioniq 5. And everything is so expensive. I got $10,000 in tax credits on my Prime so it was a lot cheaper. I guess I’ll just live vicariously through you for now. Félicitations pour votre nouvelle voiture.

However, the energy consumption on the LE FWD has radically improved since the temperatures have started to rise. The absence of route planning is my BIGGEST beef. Take care. Thank you for sharing the Toyota technical documents. I see the notice regarding the infotainment system which has been causing me pain since I got it. Toyota techs couldn't figure out how to apply the update and didn't want to listen to my advice (electronic engineer) so I'm SOL (shit outta luck... not Solterra). I've got a copy of the Techstream software but it's pretty limited in what it can do. I had a link at one point which would allow the download of updates for the US VINs but see no Canadian equivalent. It looks like some folks in other parts of the world are receiving vehicles with a new software version which has the battery state of charge % and presumably other DC fast charge fixes. I'll see if that will be offered to Canadians but if not I'll see if there is grounds for a class action lawsuit or dump this thing at a loss when I can get a new vehicle. Bought my Canadian BzzzzLE in February and have yet to get much more than 300km range, and haven't seen more than 100 kWh DC fast charger for more than a few mins at 350kW chargers. I've owned many Toyotas but I won't likely be purchasing another one ever again :( There are so many annoying things about this car, I'd love to ditch it for the IONIC 5, though I'll have to wait some time for that.

I am looking to buy a bz4x. Do you think the back seat would fit a rear facing baby seat and two 5-ft 110-lb women (mom and grandma).

So I had that exact scenario with my baby seat, my wife and my mother in law sitting in the back. It does fit but the middle person won't be sitting comfortably for a long period of time and it will depend on how wide your baby seat is. I have the Graco 4Ever all in one seat.

@@EVDude Have you tried putting the rear facing seat in the middle? I have Graco Triride 3-in-1. Not sure how large it is compared to others, but it doesn't look big.

@nartin86 No I haven't. Since I park my car in the garage, only one side is accessible and I put the baby seat on the driver side.

Terrible DC Fast Charging, on board AC charger is only 7KW (all competitors 11KW) Can't display its actual SOC as a number Terrible highway efficiency of maybe 160 miles of range at 70 MPH. To much reserved capacity Software limited to x Kwh's of charging per 24 hour period.

@@InternetDude I agree, at least here in the US. I like the looks and the specs (except the charging), but it seems too expensive for what it is. I figure everything, even the BZ4X will sell in small numbers but if Nissan really wants to sell a lot of them, I don't see it happening.

This is a toy car. I am very sad to buy this car because its only problem is charging. First of all it takes long time to charge if 50% charged with level 3 it will take 2 hours 30 minutes. Then you have to keep the car at full stop which you have to suffer in extreme cold, heat. After that if you start the car and turn on the heat and AC then you can run the car for hundred miles. So don't waste your time and money buying this car. thank you 😂😂😢😅
