The 0W-20 Toyota SP oil is a more wear control oil then the MobileOne AFE 0W-20. I have done a VOA on both of these oils. The Toyota oil is a special blend manufactured by ExxonMobile. The Toyota oil has a great anti-wear additive package: Moly - 697, Boron - 203, Zinc - 739, Calcium - 1287, Magnesium - 426, Phosphorous - 684 with a TBN of 6.8. That being said one of the key features of the ILSAC GF-6 oils is the protection they offer in helping prevent LSPI in engines with the TGDI technology. Combining turbochargers with GDI presents a unique set of problems, including an abnormal combustion phenomenon known as low speed pre-ignition (LSPI). LSPI is an uncontrolled combustion event that takes place prior to spark ignition, often resulting in knock, and has been known to cause catastrophic engine damage. The MobileOne ILSAC GF-6 AFE 0W-20 additive package is very different: Moly - 60, Boron - 73, Zinc - 548, Calcium - 844, Magnesium - 629, Phosphorous - 543 with a TBN of 8.0. Where the Toyota oil is blended for wear control and to support Toyota's 10K OCI - the MobileOne oil is blended to help control LSPI.
@dadgarage7966 Жыл бұрын
Many dealer parts counter people and lube techs aren't fledged mechanics and by now, no doubt some Toyota 0W20 has found its way into these cars so it's probably okay. Probably. How does oil help with pre-ignition -- cools the piston bottoms by wicking heat and hot spots away? Or fewer minerals keeps the PCV system clean?
@joeythedime1838 Жыл бұрын
@@dadgarage7966 It's the chemistry of the additive package. Calcium and magnesium sulfonate are the most commonly used detergent additives in motor oils. Although calcium had been favored for decades, industry research has shown fewer incidents of LSPI occurred by re-balancing detergent chemistry to reduce the level of calcium and increase the level of magnesium sulfonate in the additive package. Calcium has been shown to promote LSPI, while magnesium has little impact good or bad. As for the anti-wear additives moly, zinc and boron they add to the price of the oil. The Toyota oil has higher levels of these additives because they help support the 10k OCI and Toyota isn't selling on price - you need to buy it from a dealership. On the other hand MobileOne is completing on price with all the other oils on the shelves of retailers.
@justfelix30 Жыл бұрын
So basically your saying the mobile one oil prevents LSPI and the Toyota one dosent??
@joeythedime1838 Жыл бұрын
@@justfelix30 In these current blends for the products AMD is referencing. It doesn't mean Toyota wouldn't be re-blend their oil and AMD is referencing a very specific MobileOne oil. From a quick look at the label in the video - it seems to be the "green label" Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20 version. Which MobileOne states " Meets ILSAC GF-6 standards to help provide low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and timing chain wear protection while keeping your engine clean".

They are pushing a lot of HP and Torque out of these tiny engines but if they are sturdy and build with strong internal components they will hold up. The deciding factor then is regular maintenace like oil changes every 3000-4000 miles or before a track day or autocross session.

americans shouldn't worry about reliability. The Japanese know how to build an engine with small displacement and high power. In the 60s honda had a 1.5L 4 cilinder with 1500HP. AUTO CRAFT a tuning company in japan already has pushed the engine of the corolla GR to 440HP reliably. Not everything needs to be an V8

It won’t because these will be beat on…….regular underpowered Corolla’s as by design are long lasting because of their design being low on power equals longer life of parts!

Ethan muchas gracias. I'm retired 70 years old and drive a 2006 subaru sti. I may get one of these

The STI feels more powerful because of the torque and the power coming on in the lower RPM. I had a 2009 Legacy 2.5GT before this. I think I liked that more but this is a brand new car which comes with some perks. Some of the technology is extremely bothersome but that’s how all new cars are now. Lots of warnings and beeping and settings on a crappy tablet.

Love this dude’s attitude! If he was my mechanic not only would I trust him implicitly, I’d pick up my car at a time convenient to buy him a beer. 🍻

I have a GR Yaris (same engine, with -30HP due to the european exhaust and tune) and what a blast of a car it is. Recently I wrote a coment in another of your videos saying that I would let you service and repair my GR and I see that you got your hands on one already. Regarding what you mention arround 16:00 about the oil, both in europe and japan there is a specifically Gazoo Racing branded 0W20 oil that is up to the specification on the cap. No idea about the US, but I have to use that on my GR Yaris as it's almost impossible to find 0W20 elsewhere on generalist spare parts shops, yet alone that specific 0W20

I have a 2012 Scion iQ, got it 3/9/2015 with 35000 on it from Carnax! It’s been the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. If I can muster the capital to get one of these 8 ball says I will!

Wait...the car seems to have Michelin PS4S on it. Owner is driving those in the snow? Not even remotely a good idea for summer high performance tires to be used that way. No grip and your compound will crack. I have always used those on my M4 but only in summer months. Very cool video. I am on the waitlist for the GRC...want it really badly as an awesome daily driver, particularly for the snow.
