Regarding the screen display inconsistency: if you press the lock button on your remote, one time, it will lock your vehicle BUT when you press it a second time the vehicle remains locked AND it cuts the power to a bunch of things in the car. I don’t remember the technical naming of this feature. So GUESS right now is if you are sometimes pressing the lock button once, and sometimes pressing it twice, then maybe that second time is cutting the power to what is keeping that menu cached in memory and on your display and then requiring you to go and find it again. The best way for me to explain it would be if you put your computer in sleep mode versus actually shutting down your computer… If that makes sense to more people. No idea if this is the case but just maybe you could try it and let us know in the comments. I don’t know where I heard this information and my only validity to this info is when I double press my lock button, then my headlights turn off on my 2016 4Runner if I forgot to turn them off… yes I know they will eventually turn off but when you hit the lock button the second time it’s immediate. Right now I have a change to get a circuit edition but they are doing a $10k (Canadian) markup plus adding a few options that I don’t want so that’s about $17k Canadian with tax on top of the car price (which is about $12,500 USD) and I don’t know if I can swallow that pill because that makes it the same price as the GR Surpa…not that I want the Supra because I have a family and in emergencies or special occasions I’d like to take my son out in the GR Corolla if I decide to buy it.

Linkage actuated shifters are inherently more robust by design. It's a good reminder to point out as the car gets older. People that have driven some older cars with worn cables will know they tend to stretch, though it is concerning that a new car is already exhibiting these issues.
@Cernunn0s90
@Cernunn0s90 3 ай бұрын
The issue comes from too soft gearbox and engine mounts. The gearbox simply moves too much. This was probably done to reduce NVH from the vibrating 3-cylinder. Upgrading to stiffer mounts makes the shifts way better.

My first car was a 1994 Honda Accord DX (5-speed manual) with crank windows and no power locks, it weighed 2756 pounds, and had zero technology; it was incredible. Since then, I've had all sorts of cars, from a GTI to Wrangler to a Camaro SS 1LE; since the Honda, I hadn't recaptured the pure joy 16-year old me took from the DX...until the GR Corolla. As enthusiasts, we have it good these days; yes, the eRevolution is pretty much here, but damn...a 300-hp 'Rolla that sticks to the road and goes like stink?! In the age of unlimited growth, a gajillion horsepower half-tons, and $70k (USD) Mustangs, this sucker ain't half bad...

@@devingonzales626 The GTI was around 2008 and it was definitely fun and tossable, albeit in a FWD understeer-y way. I appreciate the GR because it’s on rails. Neutrality is its comfort zone. Maybe I’m getting old, but I’ve really appreciated its neutrality when giving it the beans in the twisties. If you push hard, it will squirm a bit, but the AWD system really keeps you locked in. Here in the PNW of the USA, where traction is aways in question, the above attributes are priceless.

Im extremely picky when it comes to the sound system in cars. The system in my GR core is completely serviceable, it could use a bit more low end. Coming from a 2017 GT Mustang with the Shaker system, its definitely not on that level, but with a little bit of tuning and fader adjustment, I have no gripes. All the reviews I saw said the same thing about the system being bad, and truthfully its really not. Overall, great review and I'm glad I'm not the only one who wishes the seat could adjust lower.

I think you missed a few key points and went a little too hard on others. but all in all, pretty accurate assessment. my opinion is that this is THE perfect daily driver that can also serve as a BACKUP autocross car or backup weekend track car. 1.) where the hell is the center console? (lack of storage) 2.) wireless charger placement and functionality (you hit the heated seat button almost every time you put your phone in it and it rarely works) 3.) 30:70 mode is garbage, creates more push that 60:40 4.) the stereo is fine for an economy hatch back 5.) the infotainment is also on par for an economy car ( this isn't a BMW M2 or Porsche Cayman) 6.) its WAY too quiet in stock form 7.) exhaust sits far too close to rear diff clutch packs which causes a majority of the overheating issues 8.) the piano black interior inserts should have been soft touch material as they scratch too easy and look like shit after just a few wipe downs. 9.) factory brake pads are great for street but are not suitable for track

Thank your for the video highs and lows for the GRC! Not sure why you'd want the tire light to be constantly on, if your tire blows it's just going to blow. I do use that feature, but to only check the tire pressures once a week or so. As for the transmission, you need to drive a 915 transmission from an air cooled Porsche 911 pre 1986...once you conquer that, you'll love any transmission...LOL! As someone who’s hopping to own one of these, I have something I want to ask. I live in Canada and our roads are less than ideal, so I’ve been saving up for a sporty car that I can drive year round. I’ve thought of a newer WRX, but I really don’t like how they look now and I hear their engines are still really finicky. So I’m leaning towards the GR Corolla, since I think it looks great, has really good power and has 4 wheel drive, so I won’t get stuck in the winter very often. i got to about @14:25 of your video and you mention it's running out of steam up top. Could it be that your lower octane fuel in California is causing it to pull timing at higher RPMs, especially as you head for the hills to drive it harder? This could be made very prevalent in a turbo car, especially when it's relying almost entirely on boost to feel that punchy. which this tiny 3 cylinder is. It will pull timing, it will limit boost. at that last 1/3 of the tachometer. I can imagine with 90 or 91 octane. Especially if you went up to a mountain road and gained 2000ft or more. Perhaps try an E40 re-map and see what happens instead when you eliminate knock or lean scenarios, or even over enrichment as factors.
@PointShiftDrive
@PointShiftDrive 4 күн бұрын
I don’t think it has to do with the fuel. I think it might have to do with just the way it’s mapped. Because it tapers off the boost as the RPMs rise. But if you really care about that, you can tune and change it to what you want.
@twrcrew8852
@twrcrew8852 4 күн бұрын
@@PointShiftDrive all engines are designed to taper off in higher rpm. the modern ones feel so much more apparent because they're tiny. but they're also so advanced compared to what we were doing in the 90s and 2000s. ask a race team to make a 300hp 3 cylinder 1.6 back in 1995 and you'd end up with a 16,000 rpm bastard of a thing.

I drive my GRC like i stole it everyday. Not once has it grinded a gear in the 5000 miles of abuse i have put it through. I would get rid of the heavy shift knob toyota puts on it and replace it with either an aluminum knob, if you still want some weight, or a delrin knob. To much weight can hide the ques the tranmission is giving you about how it wants to be shifted. You will be able to feel and learn the behavior of the transmissions and what it likes. Take some time to learn how tranmissions work and really try to feel each component doing its thing. I have tought many ppl around me how to stop grinding gears over time. this works trust.
@PointShiftDrive
@PointShiftDrive Жыл бұрын
All the owners who do experience grinding (from time to time) isn’t because they don’t know how to drive or the weight of the knob is the culprit. It has to do with the fact that cable linkage isn’t as accurate as direct linkage. They are all slightly different lengths but all within a certain spec from factory. Normally this is fine but when you start to shift quickly, the heat can start to cause the metal cables to stretch and expand. Think of a suspension bridge. It’s lower in summer months and higher in winter. Based on that fact, shifting timing can change ever so slightly causing a grind from time to time.
@ovidiscool

@@PointShiftDrive I'm only speaking from my own experiences. I can see how those things could cause a grind to occur. And if they are the culprit, I guess I am lucky my car is not affected. I also own an mr2 that is also cable shifted. about an inch of play in each direction and I don't grind that either. 🤷‍♂Maybe its just luck.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who gets that random gear grind when shifting. Definitely something Toyota may need to fix in the future. As far as the dash not saving your parameters, I think it might only save in the "Custom" section. Mine doesn't reset at all after I changed it there. And as far as the clutch packs overheating. I think JustDriven found the best solution. They did a custom exhaust that went to an oval shape by the sensor and then heat wrapped it to prevent the exhaust from overheating the sensor. Since that change, I don't believe they have had the "2WD limp mode" happen on track anymore. Next big issue for this car is the oil temps... Even in colder weather, the oil gets really hot when on track. An upgraded oil cooler is almost a necessity for track driving.
@PointShiftDrive

Im pretty sure over the next few months we will hear more and more about people grinding gears... There seems to be enough owners experiencing it already that I am sure it will get more notice. As for the 2wd limp mode situation, im not sold yet that the attended fixes are final. we will have to wait and see. Thanks for watching btw.

You should hold a good quality speaker versus the cheap crap from the factory in your hand. you would be surprised the difference. consider how just a couple lbs difference in rim weight is worth $$$$$s (ie carbon fiber or magnesium) just to save a little unsprung heaviness in the corners. Well the doors are not exactly in the same spot but... it is a good place to save some weight for performance sake. This is why all the STIs all those years felt cheap inside. its not just because of price point but also because of performance. those interiors needed to be light.

How would tire temperature inform you of a flat and prevent an accident? It’s hard to trust the rest of the review when you make uninformed comments/criticisms.
@PointShiftDrive
@PointShiftDrive 8 ай бұрын
Pressures and temps are related. the higher the temp rate, the higher the heat. The heat effects the rubbers ability to do its job. And its varying. Some heat in the tires is good. BUT too much heat effects the tires ability to grip. Tires can get greasy. Too many extreme heat cycles of your tires could also effect their ability to do their job, even if they have tread. If you arent thinking that way about your tires, you could have an understeer event off a cliff. Hence, a safety issue. If you have ever been in real racing (amateur +, you would look at tire temps differently). And to be more clear, its not that high temps mean you have a flat. it means your tires could be compromised.
