My 1.4l Corolla has VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing, but this 1.8l T-sport actually VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing and Lift). You can hear the lift happening a bit after 6000rpm, around 6200rpm. I dont know if many knows about VVTL-i, its not as common as VVT-i
@bojned3 жыл бұрын
@Jamie McPhilbin it's not VVT, it's VVTL. VVT is only cam phasing, VVTL is cam phasing + variable valve lift. You can easily notice the change in engine sound around 6.000 RPM when higher lift cam profile is activated.

@adodoes87702 жыл бұрын
@@Wojt0n i had an arranged meeting with an owner that was selling his Corolla TS. After many calculations and a lot of thinking i decided not to get the car since i'm still a student and owning one would be hard. I didn't even go see the car as i would probably get hooked and would make a huge financial mistake. But now i'm left wondering how awesome it must be when that vvtli kicks in at over 6k rpm
@Wojt0n2 жыл бұрын
@@adodoes8770 You've made a wise decision, while Corolla/Celica TS is certainly a fun car to own, 2ZZ-GE can be costly to repair. After 2 years of ownership, I pushed my TS a little bit too hard on a highway (like in a video, but for an extensive period of time) and spun one of the rod bearings a long way from home. Since the engine was rebuilt once by previous owner (poorly, as it later turned out), it wasn't worth it to rebuild it again, I had to get a whole different engine from imported Celica GTS and just to be safe, replace all the rod bearings, seals, bolts, resurface the head. All in all, with cost of a tow-truck and a backup car during the time it took to put my Corolla back on the road I ended up paying 70% of my car's retail price (nearly $3k) just for that single repair. Of course, I've had 0 issues with it since then to this day (it makes the right power and consumes absolutely no oil on the contrary to the first engine), but the fact remains - I would've never been able to afford that repair if I was still in college and would probably have to sell the car at a massive loss (30-40% of its initial value). I hate to say it, but as a college student, you'll be better off with Golf V GTI or an EP3 Type R as your first car, their engines are pretty much bulletproof and the parts can be easily found for cheap, which is often not a case with 2ZZ-GE - it's a great engine, but you have to look for one in a good condition and continue to take care about it.

These things when they're boosted are absolutely insane haha. I've got one of these gen Corollas as a temp car when mine died until December and it's like driving a go cart, ain't a t-sport unfortunately but I'm very tempted to drop the engine in because it's all interchangeable bits. They're pretty light cars, with really close ratio gears at least on the less powerful models so y'know

Go ahead and do it mate! I’ll subscribe to your channel in case you make a series out of it
@nicwilson893 жыл бұрын
@@AntJoseph_ Thanks! I don't even think I've got anything on my channel anymore, used to have electronics stuff and high voltage nonsense and giant tesla coils on it haha. I think if I was gonna do it, I'd probably make a series out of it just because I've already got cameras I can use and lots of lighting. I just dunno whether it's worth doing if I'm gonna probably be selling it come December anyway to buy something silly :/ On the other hand...I can't fucking leave anything alone without tinkering and modifying it, whether it be cars or electronics or anything ahahahaha I think I might be more likely to try and do a 'junkyard' turbo build on mine because it's a lot fucking cheaper than buying a 2ZZ engine just because I wanna mess with stuff. I can upgrade the engine internals with parts from the other ZZ motors because it all fits if needed. If it'll support it properly, I'll even be building my own ECU. Speeduino project, Arduino Mega plopped onto a baseboard you build up that acts as a fully featured aftermarket ECU for, assuming you don't have an Arduino Mega or a case to put it all in, about £100 inc shipping. So you could really get a lot in the way of results without spending much if you wanna go that route, it'll do anything any of the more fully featured aftermarket ECUs will do so Maybe a 'lets see what results I can get without spending massive amounts of money turbo it until it explodes and buy an mk2 MR2 to plop a V6 in' project haha I mean I'm already using Arduinos to control the central locking because the buttons on the key I got are dead. I'd already reverse engineered the central locking controller on my old Honda to do this and wrote the code for the Arduino and shit, so swapping that into the Corolla was easy. Another Arduino to control opening and closing my garage door with an up/down rocker switch on the dash. Maybe later today if I can be bothered Arduino controlled variable brightness internal lighting in the above lights and some in the footwells. I just get bored and either start fucking with something mechanical or start fucking with something electrical/computing :D
