I have a ton of fun in my E210 manual sedan. The new Corolla chassis is a great platform compared to previous generations and perfect for sports applications. My guess is that variations of this new 3-cylinder will find their way into other Toyotas in the future too (basically replacing some of the 4-cylinder NA engines). I would be shocked if Toyota doesn't detune it and match it up to a hybrid drive for more pedestrian models too. Nothing sells reliability like an engine that can easily make 300HP+ but is de-stressed to like 200--250HP for normal driving.
@jayquickscope4446

The 300hp version is a destressed version they have the same engine making like 550 hp- 600hp for one of gazoo racing rally cars. Also they have a version of the same engine that runs on hydrogen. The hydrogen version sounds the same and makes the same power , it's almost zero emissions with only water coming out the exhaust I wish the states would put way more hydrogen gas stations around so we could get away from these 5-6$ gallons of gas if it's that expensive I would rather it have zero carbon emissions

Hydrogen makes so much sense when you think about it. Doing a gasoline to hydrogen conversion is a lot less wasteful then doing a gas to electric conversion. When you do an electric conversion you have to get rid of the engine transmission driveshaft fuel system basically everything. Also finding a place for the battery is tricky. Doing an gasoline to hydrogen conversion is far less wasteful. You are able to keep everything except the fuel system. I am not completely against EVs but I think it’s best if we have a mix of the two powertrains.
@Humanaut.
@Humanaut. 2 жыл бұрын
@@code54crunchy50 Problem with hydrogen is that a lot more innovation needs to be done for it to become commercially viable. it's very energy intensive to produce(you need to put almost as much energy in as you get out), then transportation and storage is tricky and so on. and no, it's not tricky to place the battery in an EV since you get rid of so many things that actually take up a lot of space in an ice-engine car. basically Tesla has found a way to make the battery package be part of the structure of the chassis meaning the battery pack encased in a certain framework lends more structural integrity to the body of the car.

Fast forward to last week when I bought my very first Toyota, the Corolla Cross 1.8 XR CVT Hybrid. I had to wait a year for mine though due to the Toyota assembly plant in South Africa that had flooded due to a storm and a dam retaining wall that broke. Toyota had to write off tens of thousands of cars. Mine included. Nontheless a year later I can now say that for me Toyota went from the boring family car to something truly amazing. Their cars look gorgeous and is filled with tech. On my car over the weekend I got a staggering 4.1 L/100km fuel usage. Toyota is definitely going into the right direction. Especially so with the introduction of their Gazoo Racing division. Toyota became funky and fun.

my dad had a 1979 E60 Toyota Corolla station wagon until he went into the Boston police Academy in 1986 and that thing could move even though it had very low horsepower 55 and torque of 62 LB Ft where as for example the 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 my late maternal grandmother drove at the time had 170 HP and 275 Ft LB torque from a 5.7 l V8 engine granted the Corolla station wagon weighed roughly 53% less than the Oldsmobile Delta 88 Sedan did so obviously got better gas mileage per gallon though the tank was also half the size the Corolla had a 12.4 gallon tank while the Olds sedan had a 25.4 gallon tank and the car she had after that a used 1981 Cadillac Coupe Deville had a 22.8 gallon tank

Liked your piece on the corolla. Maybe you didn’t see these in the US but mine was a UK 129bhp 1.6l 16v twin ohc GTi version. At the time Volkswagons Golf GTi was king of the hill, but this little roller skate rocked right up in The Golfs face, in my eyes it was only bettered by the 16v Golf GTi. It was a hoot to drive, a real bundle of fun, with a lot of premium touches inside, even had an electric moonroof. Its one big flaw was that the engine was very light, it couldn’t pin the front wheels to the floor, and suffered from wheel scrabble. Very interesting on a wet day under braking too. I loved that car

It is always a shame when one of the spouses has to settle for an automatic because the other one can't learn to drive a manual. My spouse is the same way but I have being able to keep my manual cars so far. However Koenigsegg has developed a dule mode transmission with an actual clutch pedal that can also be driven in auto mode. I hope this technology trickles down. Below is a video to explain how it works. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5_CaIGYh69jppo

So in theory if 3 cylinders makes 300HP, then toyota should just make a new inline 6 cylinder from it. This could possibly make 600HP from factory...

Cars don't work that way bruv, u don't smash two engines together and call it a new engine, a 600hp i6 will be hard to engineer, and it will cost a lot, u will need good marketing for people to buy it, i don't think toyota would take the risk

@jbm0866
@jbm0866 2 жыл бұрын
Most companies have abandoned new ice car development (too early imo) by this point. So the only one I see that will possibly play along are Mazda with their newfound love of putting AWD on everything, but they seem to be headed more towards luxury than anything truly sporting. (I have a Mazda 3 turbo hatch that only lacks a manual to be near sports car) However they do have a new straight 6 engine that could be quite tasty if used in the right way😎 Honda could be a contender, but so far havent really embraced AWD beyond their crossover offerings. VW is all but dead as a maker of anything but glorified golf carts after their latest gen of ice cars run their course, and they seem to be hellbent on taking all their various nameplates (Porsche is resisting to some degree, may go independent) down the same path so I cant see them being a serious competitor in the future. On that note it seems most of the other companies (GM, Ford, Stellantis, etc etc) are going down the same path already. I dont think Nissan is long for this world, and Subaru refusing to make an Sti version of it's latest WRX should tell you where their minds are now..

So how come there are no performance figures or track times for the GR Corolla if it's so great? Why won't Toyota reveal it's capabilities only 2 months away from reaching dealerships? Seems strange to me; if it's such a great car maybe they should show factual proof that it's great instead of fanboy hype marketing media garbage. I want real benchmark testing not people saying it's great because they think it is with no real world proof, especially if these people telling me it's great have never ridden in one and I know for a fact none of the media/reviewers have driven one yet. Pretty lame.

I think it had like 90hrsprs but it was standard everything. no power steering, no power windows or mirrors, no electronic door locks, nothing. Car didn't even have a radio. But I could make it fly.
