the Supra and the 86 have other companies in it simply because of money and profit, not that toyota doesn't know how to make a sports car. it wouldn't be profitable to design a new engine for the 86 or the Supra, it's simply cheaper to buy one from another company, or splitting profits with them.

There's something special about a car designer taking you around his or her car, skipping as they do so with excitement, showing you all the unique details they piled on and fought the accountants to keep in the final design, everything from bodywork curves to the excruciating technical specs. Not having hypersensitive steering is actually a bonus. It means you can drive it home from work in the evening and not hate how hyperalert you have to be throughout your commute. All cars should be _possible_ to drive with one hand loosely holding the steering wheel, for those times when you're just burned out and don't want to care about anything. As for the Morizo Edition: The fact that he put his own name on the car is actually a huge deal for a Japanese company. You don't take personal credit for something if you work in a Japanese company. That shows truly enormous confidence in the product to be able to justify the faux-pas.

It’s a shame that Toyota is intentionally keeping these in limited supply, and letting dealers mark them up 15k above MSRP. I get sporty hatchbacks have a bit of a following, but not big enough for that. A lot of these things are gonna sit on lots, not being bought, because they’re too expensive for most peoples liking. The Ford Focus RS basically followed that same model to a T, and it was very quickly discontinued due to poor sales. They need to produce these things in large quantities to make them cheaper to buy over time, if they want this thing to succeed.

I have watched many videos about this GR Corolla and have noticed a bit of a theme amongst them, people saying they can't believe a car like this has a Corolla/Toyota badge on it. That is the reason why this video is so refreshing. I can remember a time in the 80s when even the twin cam Corolla Secas were considered a bit of a performance bomb, and it is great to see a video not only remembering, but celebrating this heritage that all too often seems to be forgotten. Great work!

This is the first GR Corolla video I’ve watched, despite them flooding KZbin for a week now. Why? I gave up on this car before it was even released. Toyota made it clear they would limit the volume of production for these significantly BELOW demand. The dealers in the US have made it even clearer that they are utterly amoral opportunists who will suck up every last drop of your money they can get away with. I got a WRX despite it being ugly and slower than the GR Corolla because the sad reality is that these will be rare collector cars that people bought for $100K and stuck in a showroom forever.

Yamaha heads were on all the famous engines. The thing that this video misses is why the GR Corolla/GR Yaris is such a big deal. It’s literally the only performance car Toyota has made all by its self since 1962 with the sports 800! With my MR2 I feel that unique Toyota sports car feel. You can drive it everyday, sun, snow or rain. Learn manual on its forgiving powertrain. Learn the limits of the car and yourself with the reassuring assistance of a friend. It starts every time and, it doesn't mind a slow commute. But get it on a track or a twisty road, and it lightens up. The Yamaha built 3SGE/GTE screams with excitement. The chassis moves and flexes just the right amount, it builds confidence through every perfect apex, through every long sweeper or from one light to the next. It want's to go faster, every intent feels like it wants to chase that next guy ahead. When you're done however you can slow down, lower the windows, turn up your favorite song and cruise home to your hearts content. That's what I've always loved, it's fast, fun, exciting, inspiring, but also calm, confident, and dependable. I've driven Type r's, skylines, GTRs, Mustangs, Porsches and nothing has felt the same as my MR2

It's old, funky and has zero nav or nannies. It's also incredibly light, easy to drive, fuel efficient, comfy, practical, really fun at normal speeds, has rally ground clearance and is appreciating in value. I've had a 2000 4runner. Grew up wanting a MR2 Spyder. Finally got my hands on one. And super excited for the GR Corolla.

Don't forget during the time where Toyota apparently forget how to make a sports car they actually spend a lot of time developing one of the greatest car ever made. It was so good Toyota badge was to good for it. The Lexus LF-A

If I didn't gave a FK8 Limited Edition already I would be trying to get a Morizo Edition. Great job on the video. Gotta give it to Toyota for being so committed.

Only car I've ever regret selling was my '91 MR2 Turbo (my first car). About 20+ years later I find myself looking at a corolla. A car my grandma used to drive. LoL

Lol. Very similar. 91 MR2 was my first car and I'm in line for a GR Corolla Circuit Edition(at MSRP). It isn't because it's a Toyota, I just really like the car. I've never even cared for hatchbacks.

Remember, Akio Toyoda in 2005 was sent the finished article of the Lexus LFA, and after pondering for a while he said "This is good, but what if the chassis is made from carbon fibre?" And the LFA that we all know was born. Unloved first, a legend now.

Great story telling, great video! In the middle of it when it was talked about the lack of something more I was like, there is the Morizo edition! Because not everybody was able to test that one, but the ones that did, they felt very similarly, that the Morizo edition was what they were actually expecting from this GR Corolla.

I've got a 1998 E11 Corolla Liftback, very reliable and fun to drive, and with a little 1.3L 4E-FE engine, she's capable of a good 120mph.

This video brought me to tears, I can't explain why. The story telling was immaculate, the humanism In the design. It's unseen with other car brands. Toyota put their heart and soul into the car for the first time, in a very, very long time.
