Just FYI, That Altezza is one of the first Gazoo racing cars that Akio drove when he first started using the Morizo name. I might be reading into this too much, but since they viewed the MR2 through the Altezza, it could be a hint that they are thinking the MR2 will be another defining moment for the brand.

3 Cyl turbo + a rear electric motor would reasonably push an MR2 to a sub 3 sec 0-60. Maybe not from the factory, but the aftermarket will figure it out. The 3cyl hasn't been around super long, but it seems to be super durable.

I think it’s a new Celica to compete with the electric Cayman. I also believe there will be a new MR2 that’ll release. I didn’t see it mentioned but in the upper right hand side of the still shot of the covered “mr2” are celiac photos . Don’t think thats a coincidence. I have a feeling they could be positioning this as a new celica/mr2 sports car. Possible 4WD mid engine car? There’s been rumors of both cars, maybe it’s actually just one.

Recently, Japanese business news confirmed that Toyota had chosen two model styles from various concept models. They will pick one and go to production, the article said😊👍. Yes, MR2 is coming back. You earned a like and a subscribe simply for paying respect to one of the goats and imo idk the mr2 makes no sense in todays day considering it’ll be compeating with the Supra 2.0 and gr corolla unless they’ll stop producing the 2.0 Supra and it will eat the rumored gr86 with the Yaris/corolla 3cyl engine unless it’s going to be their newer, more powerful, more pricey mr2 being their top of the line over the 3.0 Supra to me it makes no sense to produce business wise but as a car fan trying new and wacky things makes greats even at a loss hence lfa, rcf, and other great value cars for top of the line performance that some have reached legendary status

Kirk, the jdm altezza had way more options for motors so not fair to assume 2jz. It had the na mr2 motor from the second gen and a beams motor. Both very cool motors. The 2jz was na so not as exciting as the Supra 2jzgte motor.

Just nitpicking, that Altezza probably does not have a 2jz , it most likely has the 4cyl BEAMS engine. Altezza is possibly the first GR vehicle when GR started which is why it’s probably featured here

And you wanna know which car also was called FT? The fkn Supra (FT-1). Just bcs it doesn't have "MR2" in the name doesn't mean its not an MR2. You're right it could be a whole different car but you can't deny the MR2 dna is very clear to the point where every single content creator talking about this car call it a friggin MR2.

Possibly, but I’d think it’d be fully electric so it could compete with the new electric 718/Cayman/Boxster (whatever it’s going to be called). Would make sense, you know instead of having a ICE and EV Supra co existing (if the rumors are true), they could just name the EV as a “Celica”. I believe we will see both a new MR2 and Celica announced soon tho.

it might be wishful thinking, or something, i dunno. but am i the only one who thinks that maybe the two renders shown about the 'MR2' are in fact 2 separate cars? i feel like the red one could in fact be a Celica rendering, where the other is the MR2. like, think about it, if they were really getting hung up on the rear design being flat back or sport back, it would almost be a given that they would do a flat back, since literally all other MR2 models were flat back, what reason would there be to make it something different and risk the die hards crying about it, knowing how much BS they faced for doing the BMW supra. i think it would be more likely to be a flat back like it's predecessors, where they'd use the other render to represent something that was already a sportback, like the Celica. to me, it would just make sense for this to be the play. those two cars, MR2 and Celica (specifically the GT4) have been on the wishlist for die hard toyota fans for almost 20 years, with all the hype it would bring, having both come out relatively close to eachother if not simultaneously, would be pretty wild. but hey, i'm just a celica fanboy, what do i know.

NGL Just being a realist here, I feel like anyone who WOULD buy a Toyota Sports car already has. You got the GR86 GR Supra, and GR Corolla (I own a GR Corolla, best purchase in my life.) An MR2 would be unnecessary and would certainly not sell well in the USA. AS MUCH AS I'D LOVE TO SEE IT, it's just not there. The GR Corolla alone didn't even make it to it's targeted 6,600 units making only 5,5xx units for 2023. The GR Supra sold a total of 7,604 cars over the past 2 years. So to have a 4th sports car? Kinda madness but I would still love to see it, especially as I owned a First gen mr2 myself.
