Toyota Long Cranking start up

Toyota 8 series 5K lbs. LPG forklift with a long crank before starting. In this video I talk about the fuel system for these models and how to test them when you have a long crank or even a no start.

Standard screw setting from new is 5 full rotations anti-clockwise from fully closed, a good place to start, then check vf voltage on display or probe the diag connector, adjust to 2.5-3.0

The trick is to 1) start the unit 2) use tilt function tilt back ,dead head hydraulics ( by dead heading the hydraulics you are heating upthe antifreeze in the engine quicker, once the thermostat opens , the antifreeze is running through the regulator. 3) check temp gauge 4) screw adjusting screw clockwise Until engine bogs down 5) screw counterclock wise , maybe 2 turns , you will know by sound.😊

Thank you so much, bro, for the video. I'm facing an issue with an electric stacker. The problem lies in the steering as the stacker consistently turns 30-40 degrees to the left. I attempted to disassemble the pinions and manually rotate them, aiming to reassemble them in the correct direction. However, the stacker keeps reverting back on its own.

If you are able to access the service menu. Throttle angle should be less than 6* if not clean it. (you can find that on the menu too TA*) With the engine running adjust the RPM to 800 then look for VF setting. Adjusting that knob on the regulator until it reads 2.50-3.00 (fluctuating between the two numbers) This a reset if someone has been fooling around with the fuel ratio from the regulator instead of cleaning the carb.

This does not have the premium display, thus the plug in analyzer would be needed to see the vf setting.

​​@@forkliftgeek10 You can see the VF voltage by using a volt meter. Positive lead on VF terminal on diagnostic connector and negative lead to battery negative. Throttle angle is important. I just clean them cause the are usually dirty. Then adjust. I always enjoy your informative videos. Scope capture of o2 tells it all. Nice Job . Keep up the good videos .

Yeah I do this to every truck that comes in the shop. Most of the time the throttle body is dirty, doing what you said with the analyzer fixes the issues quite good!

You got to be careful with those 4ys when adjusting the regulator you gotta make sure your oxygen sensor is opening and closing or the truck will trip out over time

I have a Toyota 8FGU25 that the initial problem was it would start but would not idle. I disconnected the vacuum sensor and got it to start and idle. I replaced the sensor but that didn’t solve the problem, can you give me input on what it might be? Thank you

My TOYOTA 42-3FGC15 won't start when it's cold without a shot of starter fluid. Once warm it starts fine. Any ideas?

Have you ever had a 8 Series 4Y not want to start after a oil change ? If I let it sit for quite awhile it’ll start. It’s happened to me I’d say three times now.
