Pressing down on the edge of the battery to pop it out is the magic ingredient. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this. I ended up having to pry that cover off with a small knife because it wouldn't budge even with the latch pressed in! But I prevailed and got it off. We'll see how it goes trying to get that cover back on later, lol.

Thank you so much. The last time I needed a battery, I didn’t know how to open the fob. I took it to the service desk at the dealership. They weren’t sure either but eventually replaced the battery for $10. Now I can do it myself!

Good job, but if I were to remove tiny screws like that, they would never be found.

Me neither. It just isn't sliding. I feel so stupid.

OK, I finally figured it out. I'm pretty sure the crux of the problem is that there's too much friction in the sliding, which needs to be entirely aimed off the fob. The downward pressure is counterproductive. I also wonder if age or humidity are contributing to make it worse. What actually does work for me, consistently, is this. Hold the fob with the switch at the top looking straight at the side where the metal prong is that you can slide in and out. When you move the switch, the metal prong will retract away inward/away from you. From this view, there's the metal prong itself, there's a little piece of it on the right that I've found to be a good spot to push with a tiny screwdriver to help me get the metal piece moving and a grip on it (but is otherwise irrelevant), and there's a little air gap _underneath_ the metal prong. It seems to just be an air gap, but it gives you a spot to get a better angle. While holding the switch open (metal prong retracted furthest inward), stick a tiny screwdriver into this hole. Use the screwdriver to apply pressure (it won't take much) upward/toward the switch. Upward, not inward. All this pressure is going in the direction we actually need it to go (toward the switch), and it moves right off.

The key fob is a really bad design. Take a guitar pick or some piece of plastic and scrape through the debris holding it in place. There plastic pry bars that are included with an iphone battery changing kit if you have one of those. Try to use the guitar pick to define the edges that want to slide. That can loosen the debris holding it in. It takes a bit of effort and don't press down too hard as that only increases the friction holding it in. You just need to get it moving. Resist the urge to use a fine metal screw driver as you can crack the case then you really hooped. Just keep working at it and it will come off with guitar pick or a nice finger nail.

Pro tip- if you don’t have the precision screwdriver set, the tip of a pocket knife should work!
