Thanks for this video! I appreciate you didnt cut any parts of the process and showed it from start to finish. That little tiny hole at the end is for the lightbulb that turns on when you press the buttons. Good call on the little bit of plastic to insulate it, i just used a bit of tape and it works fine

I was successfully able to swap the casing of my smart key because of your video. The article was Not contained in the manufacturer service manual of the slightly older vehicle. I would have completely destroyed my old item to repair it, if it wasn't for your video, and can keep the old item for parts. I used plastic non-marring scraper blades for separating the plastic and prying out electronics and a Leatherman scissor to open the original casing. I also was able to keep the original cut key (the manual key) and also the Toyota emblem battery jacket. ('Almost wish I would have recorded the process, myself). Thank you.

Helpful guide. Thanks! The 8:00 mark of separating the glued parts was the part I especially needed help to figure out. The original key fob also has the hole discussed around the 13:00 mark, albeit with a built-in membrane. You workaround of using some clear plastic film is a good one!

That little piece at around 12:30 is the transponder - without it the key will lock and unlock the doors, but won't start the car!

are you sure? I have the smart unlock and with no battery in the key fob it wont unlock the doors with the door button. I wanted to put that chip from my 2nd key in my wallet so i didnt have to run in the house to get the keys to unlock the car for what ever reason. My guess is that chip is matched to your car so only your key will start it.
