You can also prop open the switch or (have someone hold it up) and use a credit card to open it. It’s way easier. Js

I was literally out of gas at pump and this happened , 2012 rav opened door pulled that cable came out and I was saved .. u got a sub for that and a genuine thank you i appreciate you .. now wonder if cable is broke will look at it later

You guys, there is an easier way to do this. If you have someone hold up the fuel tank flip inside the car, you can push the top left corner and the bottom left corner and it should open. This will only work if someone else is holding up the fuel tank flip inside the car while you are pushing the left corners.

Works with two of credit/id cards as well - one sits horizontally in the latch (if it’s a mechanical one) and the other to pry it open.

Thank you for this video! I had the same issue at the gas station and couldn’t open my fuel door! Luckily someone helped me open it while I pushed the button. For those with the electric mechanism, you can open the same little door. There will be a lever that you pull to unlatch the door and at the same time use a card to pop the fuel door open from the outside.

My customer had the hinge spring mount break. Luckily the customer noticed and recovered the spring for me. I simply Zip ties the apring, back to the hinge location, and its been fine ever since 😂

I know how to get it open but how do i fix the issue that I don't have to go through that again? Why is the switch inside not doing the spring pop thing that opens freely? I mean when pulling the lever the grey thingy goes in and out why wont it fly open? The wire seems fine so whats the issue why did it stop working properly?

Pretty sure this is exactly what is happening to me currently. What I did to open it by myself was stick a credit card in the spacing of the gas cap and wedge it in and then release the button… I managed to do this once only bc the gas cap immediately closes on itself. Do I have to replace the grey part or just twist around to make it open my gas cap properly?

Thank you so much for this incredible, easy trick. I recommend anyone else to try this first. While this won't fix the problem. It's worth the attempt as it's quicker and simple to get the gas door panel opened. This trick should only take seconds. If it doesn't work for you, then proceed with the video

It just happened to me 2019 RAV 4 with 6423 miles, I had someone pull the inside handle and used small penknife to pry open. Will be scheduling appointment asap to repair. If this is happening a lot they should recall and repair or at least have a service bulletin to fix for free. Will update asap

My 2019 RAV4 fuel unlock is broken. As I would assume most people watching the video. I understand the method you are using to change the lock. This does not help me access my fuel tank because you used a properly functioning unlock. People with the issue you are addressing can’t do the first step

Correction: not change the lock but basically remove the lock

My RAV4 has a spring-loaded push button to open the fuel filler door. I use a cube of Bostik Blu-Tack (sticky putty for office use) which I press onto the edge of the button to keep it depressed. You can then walk round to the fuel filler cap and apply finger pressure to the corners to prise it open. Meanwhile Toyota keep telling me that I have to book it into their body shop to get it fixed. Sigh.

My rav4 has an electric button to open the petrol flap. Not a pull leaver.i have never seen a rav4 with that sort of release. All uk models are electric the latch mechanism is nothing like them on your car there no cable . What you pulled on your car is the bonnet release on my cst
