Transmission drain and fill on 2011 RAV4.. Toyota ATF WS transmission fluid.. 4 Quarts

I’ve been looking into high-mileage used Rav4s recently (140-175k miles). If the dealership/owner/Carfax doesn’t show a transmission drain and fill has been done by that point, should I do it ASAP or just let it be?

Great vid, thanks. Going to do this on my 2012 Rav4 4WD w 103k miles. I spoke to Toyota and they usually do a flush using up 13 quarts, and clean the screen filter which is reusable, and put in a new gasket. I will not open the pan and just do the drain and fill twice. The screen filter is a metal screen and is only for catching large chunks. At some point in the future I might open the pan and clean the magnets and clean the screen filter but for now will do a drain and fill twice just to keep my peace of mind for now.

I may also clean the screen at some point but I'm at 130k now and no transmission issues..

I do these drain and fills as well over the years on 4runners, xterra, tundra, civic. Just bought a rav4 for my daughter. Will do the same as you. thanks!

If anyone is wondering, Idemitsu Type TLS-LV is the same as Toyota WS transmission fluid but much cheaper. Valvoline Maxlife will work also, but the viscosity is a hair different than Toyota WS which makes some people nervous. Idemitsu Type TLS-LV is exactly the same but just much cheaper.

indeed best insurance to protect your transmission. I also highly recommend it.

Hello, thanks for the informative video! I'm still learning how to care for my cars and I'm wondering why you took the car around the block to warm the trans fluid at the very beginning. Can I replace the fluid if fluid is cold? been running for a little while and is hot? why and/or why not? THANKS!!
@tongo117 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can change fluid when it's cold.. Going for a short 5 minute drive just warms up the fluid so it flows out faster..

Hello I was planning to do this on my 2012 RAV4 with 107k, it seems like they have never done a drain and fill. Should I replace the filter too? What do you recommend? thank you
@EvilM3 Жыл бұрын
I would, you wouldn't run the engine oil filter to 107K, would you?

Excellent video. Just did it on my 08 RAV4. Took just under 4 quarts of WS fluid. Easy job.
