When checking fluids, I like to use white paper, so it won't distort the color of the fluid you are checking.

I keep following you, I used to watch your VW Beetle videos. My Wife bought a 2007 RAV4 V6. Btw, I still have my 2000 TDI Beetle! Thanks, Dave!

Transmission oil can last up to 100k. Many people replace is every 30k , they're wrong and wasting time. Never listen to your dealer and flush the transmission because many seal things are inside the transmission. If you use high pressure to flush it, it can cause it to break and it will cause leakage. Just change your transmission every 60-100k then you are okay. If you drive to work only 30 mins + you live in a cold state, you don't need to change it until 100k. If you drive 2-3 hours a day or more and you live in a hot weather. You need to change it every 50k becauese the more you drive, the engine can get HOT + hot climiate can get ya engine up to 200F and it can break down tramission lifespan ... THAT'S WHy dont listen to dealer to change it every 30k bc it's wasting money. Also, they want to make money from you.

Currently working on my Sister in law’s 2011 RAV4. When the car is cold, the ATF is between Cold and Hot. But after I drive it around, the level would be just above Cold…? Is this normal on this generation Rav4? Thanks.

I have a 07 rav4 and I have same problem you do. But mine is right at the full notch when it is hot and running and way above it when it's cold. You might want to add a little atf. But be careful not to overfill.

Synthetic oil looks dirty after only 1000 km but lab tests have shown that synthetic oil will last for over 20,000 km. So this guy is only making a subjective decision based on observation alone. Never trust a mechanic....
@MrCuckoobox8 ай бұрын
Yes, "synthetic oil can last over 20,000km," but Contaminants will cause the transmission wear and fail prematurely. (The Filter removes very little of contaminants - it is for "larger particles" and the magnets catch some but only iron based.) The fluid needs to be drained, the pan removed so the filter can be changed and magnets cleaned. There are always contaminants in the fluid because the clutch plate material is always wearing in the transmission. I believe Toyota "recommends" 30k miles for the Transmission Fluid Service but that is for "Normal Driving Conditions". "Normal Driving Conditions" does not include pulling or towing, dirty environment - unpaved roads & driveways, cold climate, hot climate, city driving - stop & go, large inclines - mountain driving etc. etc. In "Reality" there are very few people drive their vehicle with just "Normal Conditions". 20k miles -25k miles is probably a better recommendation for the "Average Driver". Yes, it is good have quality fluid but is only one piece. Would drink an expensive quality bottle of wine out of a dirty glass that had residue from the previous day?
