I replaced the Type 4 ATF, on my 2006 Sienna, with a high-grade full Synthetic ATF. I did three drain and fills, 3.8 quarts at a time. I used to drive the vehicle for a week between drain and fills. This time, with my recently acquired 2006 Sienna XLE, I drove the van for 50 minutes between drain and fills. Half of the 50 minute round trip was 35 mph and 45 mph stop-and-go driving and the other half of the round trip was 70 mph on the interstate. An Amsoil Salesmen said I can do it this way and get all three drain and fills done in a single day. Three drain and fills replace about 80%, or more, of the nine quarts of ATF in the transmission. I appreciate this video you posted. I never do a fluid bleed or flush. Just do drain and fills to protect the transmission from loose shrapnel and debris.
@johnstack5008 Жыл бұрын
I did the same drain and fill procedure that you used. I also did a flush/exchange through the cooler line which is a really easy job. All you need is a clear hose and a measuring container. I've got the same funnel. I wrapped the shaft of the funnel with electrical tape to make it fit snug in the transmission filler tube, so it won't leak when filling. The funnel also fits snug in the radiator filler neck when wrapped with tape. Great for bleeding air out of the cooling system.

Dont mistake this for the power flush quickie oil places and the dealer offer. All he is doing is flushing dirt out as best he can with fluid and then replacing the fluid. A flush machine is the fastest way to destroy an old transmission. Trust me from experience. I don't know this model, but mine has a filter. Ask your transmission person to drop the pan, change the fluid AND the filter.

I agree, drop the pan and change the filter as well as the fluid. That's old school mechanics. I don't see any sense to a double flush when that filter may still contain contaminates. One wouldn't do an engine oil change without replacing the filter...

@heyerstandards3 жыл бұрын
Interesting dilemma, Vince. At least it seems to be driving well for the past 55k miles. That's a good sign. The dipstick will have rollmarks at the bottom or text at the top handle. The manufacturer's tag in the driver's door jamb will have the transmission model number, such as "U151F." (Take a pic with your cell phone for future reference.) Perhaps even the local Toyota dealer will look it up with your VIN and trans #. Just poking around online, there are mixed conclusions since apparently that was a crossover year in fluid type for the programming of that transmission. Good luck!
