@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
@gadielescalante8378 as far as the tires are concerned (when paired with the black TRD rims), I did not have any rubbing issues. I've driven this wheel & tire combo on both stock suspension AND lifted suspension setups with zero issues. The only exception is that if you still have the front bumper lower valance installed, the tires might be able to touch it when turning. As long as your alignment is within factory specifications (specifically your front caster settings), you should be good to go 😁👍.
@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
@gadielescalante8378 as far as tire ratings are concerned, I have the 265/70/R17 115T (speed rating) SL (load / sidewall ply rating) currently installed. The "SL" version will give you an all-terrain tire that will perform & feel like the factory tires. An "E" rated version of this tire will give you stronger sidewalls, which is a lot better for off-roading... but they will be heavier, they will be harder to balance, and they will give you a "harsher" ride & handling experience when driving on paved roads. I hope this info helps! 😁 👍

thanks, i feel like a fool, i ordered these wheels, supposed to get them next week. i didnt know there is a slight poke out on them. i thought they where factory offset like the stock 16" wheels. thought i did my homework, i dont like the flush look, im a firm believer in like a fwd front geometry. anytime u poke a wheel out, your giving the earth leverage against your truck. the pivot of the wheel should always be the top center. thanks for this vid tho
@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
So, let me give you some peace of mind (just in case you decide to keep them). The wheel offset difference between the OEM TRD-Offroad wheels and these 4Runner TRD Pro wheels is about 3/4" (basically the width of your thumb 👍). The difference is minimal and can actually improve stability when cornering. As far as the "pivot of the wheel" is concerned, that is related more to your alignment specs. I've used these wheels with both stock suspension and my eibach lifted suspension setup, and in both scenarios, these wheels are terrific. As long as your alignment is within factory specifications, you will have no rubbing issues or abnormal tire wear (I would highly recommend an alignment anytime you put on new wheels & tires so that you can make sure the tires will wear evenly and will last as long as possible). As an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician, I tend to do a lot of research when I make upgrades to my Tacoma. I wanted these wheels because they give an OEM+ feel to the ride & handling characteristics of the Tacoma, they do not add any unnecessary stress to the wheel bearings / suspension components, and they look amazing on the 3rd Gen. I could go into more details, but in the end, if it were me, I really wouldn't worry too much about a 0.75" offset difference. The more important spec will be your tire size. I currently have Falken Wildpeak 265/70/R17's (barely over-sized), and they've been holding up well over the past 2+ years. You can always run with the stock size too (265/65/R17). I hope this info helps! 😁 At the end of the day, you should always just do what makes you feel comfortable 👍. I just wanted to share my knowledge & experience in case you may have needed some reassurance about your purchase.

I have a 2021 TRD 4x4 Tacoma Sport. I wanted to replace my 17" stock wheels with the 4 runner Pro 17" Bronze wheels. HOWEVER! I was informed by Toyota that even with the proper torque "the lug nuts do not hold properly" and they recommend I not make that substitution.
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
So the lug nuts that I use for my wheel setup are the Toyota OEM Black lug nuts - PT076-60200-02 - which are compatible for both the Tacoma and the 4Runner. They are the same lug nuts as OEM ones, just in a black finish. The Tacoma & 4Runner both have the exact same hub bores, wheel studs, bolt patterns, etc. The ONLY reason Toyota does not recommend these wheels on a Tacoma is because they have not tested these wheels for safety on the Tacoma specifically (as these wheels were originally designed only for the 4Runner). So if you think about it, any aftermarket wheel would be discouraged by Toyota. In the end, these wheels fit perfectly on my Tacoma and I have no issues in regards to OEM fitment. If I were in your shoes, I would get the bronze wheels and never look back 🤣.
@vario26642 жыл бұрын
@@LevelUpMechanics Actually, Toyota has multiple documented reports of the OEM lug nuts not holding the wheel adequately. Toyota of Hawaii is on record stating that. I'm thinking that the distinction between the 4 Runner wheel hub and that of the Tacoma is to account for this problem. What's also interesting is that there is an off road performance center here that has warned consumers on their site of the possible problematic fitment of wheels other than stock wheels on certain Tacomas.
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
Would you happen to have the link for the off-road performance shop? I'm very interested to see what exactly the discrepancy is... All I can find, so far, on Google are a few instances where a "bad batch" of 4Runner TRD wheels are having some fitment issues around the wheel hub bores... I cannot seem to find anything negative relating to the lug nuts not being able to properly secure the wheels to the Tacoma 🤔
@eckos23102 жыл бұрын
You can always get the new wheels and just paint the lug nuts that you already have with flat black heat resistant paint. This will work, and then you do not have to worry about the lug nut issue.
@vario26642 жыл бұрын

TPMS number for Amazon. Have 2016 stock Tacoma sport. Same wheel set up, same tire in mind. Was leaning to 275/70/17, worried about rubbing? You recommended 265/70/17.
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
The part number for the TPMS sensors should be 42607-06030 You should be able to find a 4-pack sensor kit with this part number on Amazon. Keep in mind that once you install the sensors, you will need to program the sensors to the Tacoma so that your vehicle will recognize them (I'd recommend taking your vehicle to a shop / tire shop that can program the sensors to your Tacoma). As far as tires go, I would still recommend 265/70/R17. Overtime, I have noticed a very very small amount of rubbing against the fender liners (only when turning during moderate articulation - front tires are barely scuffing the backside of the front fender liners). Currently, my tacoma is lifted with the eibach stage 2 lift kit. As far as wheel diameter is concerned, both 16" & 17" wheels are great. My TRD Sport came with stock 17" wheels. The 4runner TRD PRO Wheels have a wider "stance" due to the +4mm offset (as opposed to the stock +35mm offset). Quick question if I may please! I have a 2020 Trd Sport 4x4 and looking to get these rims. But I want to stay OEM as possible. OEM tire size on the OEM rims are 265/65/17. Would I be able to keep that tire size, "265/65/17", on the 4Runner TRD Pro rims? Would it also have a less chance of rubbing? Also seen you mention Alignment specs. Kind of confused about what that means? Is there a specific alignment I'd have to do to my Truck after installing these rims? Thank you in advance!
@LevelUpMechanics5 ай бұрын
Hello 👋. You can absolutely use the stock tire size (265/65/R17) with the 4Runner TRD Pro wheels 😁👍. The stock tire size will also benefit you from running into any potential "rubbing" issues. My slightly oversized tires BARELY made any contact during full left / right turns (just a very light "brush" against the front fender liners). As long as your Tacoma "drives straight", you really shouldn't need to worry about any alignment issues. To put a long story short, you really shouldn't run into any problems when installing these wheels (especially if you want to keep using the stock tire size). These wheels are still holding up great and I would highly recommend them 😁👍.

I'm still very happy with the performance of my Falken Wildpeak Tires. It is important to note that Falken makes 2 versions of this tire; a Standard Load rated version (which is what I have) for normal daily driving and lower-to-moderate off-roading... and then there is a "E" Load rated version with a thicker sidewall that is beneficial for more aggressive off-roading. The "E" load rated version can be harder to balance sometimes and the thicker / tougher sidewalls may create a "rougher" ride (a tradeoff for having extra sidewall protection). Just some food for thought lol 😆. But yes, I'm still very happy with my Falkens!

I'm an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician with over 15 years of professional experience and that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard... People upgrade wheels & tires all the time. There's more to a wheel & tire setup than just the size of the tire. And while changing wheel & tire sizes can technically change certain aspects (like speedometer readings, suspension geometry, etc), this wheel & tire setup wouldn't create any major impact to the ABS system.

Either wheel should fit your 1st Gen Tacoma. However, the 3rd Gen TRD Sport wheel may sit closer to your suspension and may (or may not) need some 1.25" wheel spacers to give you more clearance... I've seen the 3rd Gen TRD Off-Road wheels fit without any issues in a 1st Gen, so I would imagine you'd be good to go with the TRD Sport wheels too.

@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm currently running on a completely stock suspension (eventually I'm going to do a 2" eibach lift setup). The drive feels 100% the same when compared to stock wheels and tires. Honestly, I was a little worried about louder road noise with the Falken all-terrain tires (as I've never had all-terrain tires before)... but I was extremely happy to find out that they were just as quiet as the stock Toyo tires that I had on the Taco prior to the "upgrade". I hope this info helps!

Thanks for the input. Are you using P or LT tires? I’m on the fence of getting one soon and I mostly drive on pavement and use my truck as a daily drive. Does it feel smooth driving it or does it need to be regeared in order to run it smoothly?

I have this set up and feel that the truck feels more grounded. No problems at highway speeds up to 90 That’s how high I have gone on these tires. Handle great. My son has this set up also.
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
I agree. These wheels actually do change some of the geometry characteristics of the suspension (namely the track width and scrub radius). The wider track width of these wheels will give better handling when cornering and make you feel more "grounded" when driving 😁 (although a con would be that it could wear out the wheel bearings prematurely... though I doubt it since the change in track width is minimal). As far as scrub radius is concerned, I do not currently know what the factory scrub radius is, so I cannot say exactly how these wheels would alter this particular measurement. I'm not too worried about it though, since the change is minor. All in all, I think these wheels and tires have a lot of benefits (in addition to looking good) that make it such a popular choice for the Tacoma. Thanks for watching and letting me know about your experience with this setup! 😁

@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
It's been a couple weeks now and the only rubbing I've experienced is when I back out of my driveway while the front wheels are turned left / right... The rubbing is so minor during this scenario (like rubbing a feather across your skin) that I'm not worried about it. Also, keep in mind that I've only put 1,000 miles on these brand new tires (so they still have a full amount of tread life on them). The rubbing is happening only on the backside of the front fender liners. I should have 2 options at this point that can fix this very minor issue. I can take a heat gun and mold the front fender liners to sit more flush against the backside of the front wheel well / body. Another option would be to lift the truck (I am planning to install a 2" lift, so this will be the route that I'll take). As far as rubbing against the body of the Tacoma is concerned, I have not encountered any problems that would require a body mount chop or any extreme modification. I hope this info helps!

I only had minor rubbing issues (against the front fender liners by the front bumper) initially because, even though my tacoma drove straight, my alignment was actually not within factory specs. As soon as I performed an alignment, my rubbing issues were gone. The factory tire size is always a safe route to go... but if you want to increase your tire size just a little bit, you should be fine with 265/70/R17's (assuming that your alignment specs are normal) 😁. I hope this info helps!

@@LevelUpMechanics another question when you went with the 265/70 R17 rims and tire set. Did you notice any wear and tear on any of the parts of your truck like u joints etc.? I know sometimes when you make the truck a little bit taller, it kind of throws off some of the parts which cause faster wear tear.
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
The slightly taller wheel & tire setup technically can change your suspension & steering geometry. However, the difference when comparing these wheels & tires to stock components is virtually negligible. I also lifted the Tacoma shortly after this video (and made a video on it too), and even with the suspension upgrades, I have had ZERO issues in regards to premature wear on suspension / driveline components. Generally, the rule of thumb for a Tacoma is that as long as you don't lift the truck more than 3", you should still get normal use out of stock suspension & drivetrain components. I lifted my Tacoma 2.5" up front and 1" in the rear. No issues whatsoever 😁. So, if you still have the stock suspension installed on your Tacoma, you should definitely be good to go. Your driveshaft & suspension parts will be perfectly fine with this wheel & tire setup 👍.

I ended up going with this exact set up on my 2021 TRP sport and so far I'm loving. Did you notice a change with your speedometer calibration and odometer reading?
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
When you change the overall diameter of the wheel & tire setup, it will inevitably throw off the speedometer (and over time, the odometer). However, since the change is minimal with this setup, I'm personally not worried about the minor discrepancy. If you're going 65 mph down the freeway (for example), in reality you're going about 67 mph. So, if you think about it, you are actually keeping miles off of the odometer (which is great for the value of your Taco)!
@tomfrey16092 жыл бұрын
You had lots of comments so I apologize if this was already asked, did you notice much power loss going to 1" taller tire (65 vs 70). I just got a 2022 TRD Sport that came with 17" wheels, I recently added a Sprint booster (also have one in my 21 4Runner) which helped quite a bit.
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
I really didn't notice any power loss with the 265/70/R17 tires. The newer wheel & tire setup weighs virtually the same amount as the stock wheels & tires. Overall, I am very happy with the performance of these wheels & tires.
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
I've heard good things about both the Toyo and Nitto tires, although I do not have any personal experience with either of them. So far, I am very pleased with the Falken Wildpeaks and they seem to perform decently in the rain (I cannot speak for snow performance because I live in Houston lol). Falken makes this tire with 2 load rated options... Standard Load (SL) and E Load ratings. I'm running the SL rated version and the ride quality is virtually identical to the stock all-season tires. A tire with an E load rating will have a harsher ride quality under normal driving conditions.
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
As far as the wheels are concerned, they actually sit flush with the stock fender flares (as opposed to sticking out past them). As long as your alignment is within factory specs, you should not have any fender liner rubbing issues. One of the reasons why I am happy with these wheels is for the simple fact that they have oem fitment. They utilize the same stock lug nuts and they have the same stock hub bore diameter. I really haven't experienced any negative issues with this wheel & tire setup and I'm very happy with the performance. I hope this info helps! 😁

When increasing your tire size did you need to recalibrate odometer and speed settings somehow?
@LevelUpMechanics2 жыл бұрын
Technically, by changing the overall diameter of the wheel & tire, you will affect the accuracy of your speedometer (and odometer). Since my larger tires (265/70/R17)are just barely bigger than the stock tires (265/65/R17), I really didn't feel the need to recalibrate anything. If my speedometer states that I'm driving 80 mph, my actual speed would be closer to 82 mph (a difference of 2 mph)... and that difference gets smaller and smaller at lower speeds. As far as odometer readings are concerned, a larger tire can actually keep your odometer reading lower than the actual mileage put on the vehicle (over a long period of time / distance). I haven't done the exact math, but let's say the odometer states that I've put 280,000 miles on the Tacoma... with bigger tires, the actual miles driven might be closer to 300,000 miles (depending on the larger tire size) because larger tires can travel more distance for each revolution. So while the discrepancy between the odometer miles & actual miles driven could technically be illegal, I am not too concerned since the change in tire size is minimal and I have no intentions of ever getting rid of the Taco lol. I'm sure that there are ways to re-calibrate if absolutely necessary, but the options to do so might be more trouble (and costly) than what it's worth for such a minor change (for my particular instance). Sorry for the long rant lol 😆. I hope this info helps. Unfortunately, I do not know of an option currently available that would allow you to recalibrate the odometer. I know there are options out there to fix speedometer discrepancies, but as I stated before, the discrepancy is so minor in my instance that I really don't see the need to "fix" it.

Will 275/70/17 tires fit on these rims without issues?
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
275/70/R17 tires would fit, but you may experience some minor rubbing issues between the tires and the fender liners when making turns &/or while driving over bumpy roads / terrain.

How about using the Tacoma TRD wheels on the TRD Sport?
@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
I don't quite understand the question... are you referring to Tacoma TRD Pro wheels installed onto the Tacoma TRD Sport?
@DJOZMET Жыл бұрын
@@LevelUpMechanics yes
@LevelUpMechanics Жыл бұрын
You can definitely use TRD Pro wheels on the TRD Sport. All 3rd Gen Tacoma trim levels (SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Offroad, TRD Pro) have the same lug pattern, hub bore size, etc.

I'm in a process of buying a Toyota TRD sport long bed 4x2, and I want to purchase TRD wheels but I want to use the existing tire the 265/65r17. Will that be fine? Also does the stock tpms fit on the TRD wheels?
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely use the stock tires and tpms sensors on the TRD wheels! All items (including lug nuts) will be 100% compatible with the TRD wheels. I hope this info helps! 👍😁

Do you think 265/75s would fit without rubbing?
@LevelUpMechanics9 ай бұрын
As far as the 17" wheels are concerned, I'm not 100% sure. The main issue would be the clearance between the tire and the ball joint nut for the upper control arm...

Thank you for the input. I see that style on trd off roads all the time but it’s tough to get the right information as there are so many part numbers. Dealer is no help either. They won’t even entertain putting the pro rims on an off road

With the tires set up that you currently have that you are showing on the videos do you have any rubbing going on in the inner fender Like you’re driving down the road or making any sharp turns etc.?
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
Initially I had a small amount of rubbing on stock suspension when doing a full turn on an incline. I later found out that my alignment was slightly out of factory specs. Once I performed an alignment, I had no rubbing issues whatsoever (on both stock suspension and on Eibach lifted suspension setups). Hopefully this info will help!
@eckos23103 жыл бұрын
@@LevelUpMechanics I currently do not have any alignment issues and I do not have a left on my truck. Do you think I would be able to run the same set up of wheels, tires and not have an issue or do you think I should go with 265/65 R17? I am currently running right now 265/65 R17 I also have the TRD Sport 4 Door 5’ bed with stock suspension no leveling kit pretty much all bare-bones the way it comes from factory.

You should be good with this wheel & tire setup on stock suspension. 👍 As long as your alignment is within factory specs, you should be good to go!

I like it. What about fuel consumption?
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
The weight between the stock tires / wheels & the 4Runner wheels / Falken tires is almost identical... and since the diameter of the Falken tires are barely bigger than stock, my fuel consumption hasn't changed. Currently I average about 16-17 mpg in the city and 18-20 mpg on the highway. I hope this info helps! 😁

Did you have any problems with the balancing of your wide peaks?
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
I did have a little bit of a balancing issue with ONE of the tires when I installed them. The problem was easily fixed though. If you have trouble with excessive weight differences when balancing a tire, one useful trick is to rotate the tire on the wheel 180* (or sometimes 90*) and try again. This issue doesn't happen often, so if it does happen, rotating the tire on the wheel and rebalancing can easily fix the problem.

Thank you. How do you like the street ride . I’m thinking of getting those tires.
@LevelUpMechanics3 жыл бұрын
I am actually really impressed with these tires. They feel exactly 💯 the same as the original Toyo tires that came with the Taco 🌮. Originally, I thought they might create a rougher ride, being all-terrains... but there was no change whatsoever. They are just as "smooth" as the OEM tires.
