I'm surprised at these times. Only the Hondas went faster than my 1999 Dodge Dakota truck (15.180). That's kind of cool, actually. For people that just plow around on the highway it's not very fast, but on a twisty road it would mean you can really use all of the engine. I'd love to drive an EK9.

The celica could really benefit from shorter gears, or having its lift engaged at around 6000 rpm. Those cars are very tricky to get the fastest acceleration out of them, its best to shift it at its rev limit of 8300rpm instead of 8000rmp.

Peak torque is at 6600 rpm, peak hp is at 7200 rpm. It only pulls decently on the high lift camlobes, from 6200 rpm. With decent i/e mods it keeps pulling well to fuel cut.

No, If you pay close attention to the Celica’s race against the Type R, you can see that the driver was revving past 8k RPM. You can even hear the engine revving up to that point. The Type R is just lighter, has better gearing, and makes nearly the same power. Not hating on the Celica, just saying. Also, pretty much the only reason that 2ZZ powered cars can keep up with K20/K24 powered Hondas is because of their lighter weight.

Given the time constrains for these tests the times for the Celica are understandable. Doesn't change the fact that the CTR and ITR are faster on average. Give Gan-san more time with the 2ZZ and he'd be able to get the times down. Shifting at fuel cut (8300 rpm) instead of redline (8000) helps stay in the power band (6200 + rpm) on the 1-2 shift. The Celica in the hands of a decent driver is a low 15 second car. My personal worst with a bad launch (lots of wheel spin 2.7 60ft), dropping out of the powerband on the 1-2 and a passenger riding along was 15.9 @ 92 mph. Personal best with a 2.4 60ft and no passenger was 15.1@ 94 mph...and mind you my car is the fully-optioned GT-S with full interior and heavier 17X8 wheels. Base GT-S is at least 150 pounds lighter.

My Dakota R/T does a 15.2 but at only 87mph. Amazing how close the ETs can be with such different trap speeds. It would make the race fun. The truck legit murders in the 60ft but your Celica would be HUNTING it DOWN by half-track. The CTR just has a more aggressive cam profile than the GTS and the lift in the GTS is a lot shorter and comes on later that's why a CTR or ITR will always win. GTS vs GSR integra will be a much closer race stock vs stock.

@@415avenues All I know. IS IN THE year 2000. Not any other year. In the year 2000, when my car came out. None of those cars in this video that were also made in 2000. They wouldn't come close to the GTS celica. I used to outrun V8's in my car. up to 95 mph, I could take V8's. I outran 2 Mustang V8'S. BOTH mustangs were 2000 models. Brand new. Outran a 2000 Z28. I never got beat by anything that wasn't a V8. But I only raced it for the first 3 years I had it. I babied it after that. I still have my Celica 20 years later

@@rushnerdyea I own a GT 5spd last year and now have a GTS that I’m in the process of swapping. I can say that my GT was a fine car it was an 03 so no oil burning. But it surprise most people with its ability to get up and go. My GTS before the engine went out was even more of a riot and it had a broken lift bolt without me know lol. Now it’s coming back stronger with a stand-alone ECU and a few other goodies

@@omarawilson2853 What mileage did your GT-S go out at?! They are driven hard cars, but at the same time, like the GT, they can last a long time and be reliable. Also have you delt with vibration/rattling in yours? I replaced my rear engine mount (auto) and have fixed a lot of small things that will buzz in the car (just today I realized the jack in the rear well was buzzing!) The root is that the car just vibrates a lot. The shop said the other engine mounts were not back, but I'm not sure if I believe them. I have to assume the car just really is a bit rattley and vibrates a lot more than normal cars. My 88' Supra is ROCK SOLID though and doesn't have any of this. Then again that was is one TON heavier.

@@rushnerd well I can say that my 2zz was more than reliable as when I got my hands on it last September it had a little over 230,000 miles on it. It had a leak that I didn’t know about as I was fairly new to the motor and it ended up running with no oil for essentially 5 months. Strongly I might add. I hit lift almost frequently. But it spun a bearing back in February and I’ve been swapping it for the past couple days, should be done by tomorrow. As for the rattling it could be a bad VVT solenoid, as I’ve heard those can got bad, as for motor mounts my rear bolt that’s holds my motor mount in was seized and while I was able to get it off, I’ll have to reuse it or a while, cuz I couldn’t find anywhere in my area that had a replacement ready. All I can say is watch out or your rear motor mount. That bolt can seize up and there’s no nut on the other end. The rest come of easy though

Amazing that car was at 230K. Only at 142K on mine and I'm trying to baby it, but at the same time the car is born to hit lift so I try to do so when it's at temp. Checked my oil today and it was maybe 1cm below the top dot, no idea if that is normal or not, but changing it soon. I spotted a 80K(!) miles red GT for the price I paid for my GT-S this week private party. Yeah I would say I got a bit ripped off, but having a GT-S is something special and worth it.

they used the non SS and the SS model equipped with lsd. the problem is Honda was alway getting shat on by Toyota 4AGE 80/90.. HoNDa went R route basically hardcore road going car and Toyota softened up with 6 speeds and more attainable comfortable GT types cars...Toyotas 5 speed 80 early 90s are far better than the shitty 6 speeds mid 90s on. I'd still have AE86 black top 4AGE matted with strong bzg 5 speed any day.

Yep, SS-II for sure, although it's not 10 hp more, it's 190PS which is about 187hp, mainly from the better fuel used in Japan and less emission equipment compared to USDM Celica GT-S.

That Honda would never beat me in my Celica. I've never been out ran in anything but a V8. Some Celicas have different a lift engagement times. My 2000 model has the best lift. 6000 rpm to 8400. They nerfed the lift in the later models to 6200-7800 rpm. I've out ran every stock 4 or 6 cylinder car I've ever raced. And can stay door to door with a V8 until 4th gear. Which is about 94 mph. You got to know how to drive it good to be able to achieve this

The driver of the Celica was saying that when the car goes up hill it wasn’t getting any power because the RPMs didn’t wanna go up. Going up hill you really know how good the engine is.

@@Dr.Beat01 I don't know what to tell you to make you believe. The 00 model was a beast. They nerfed the car because of exploding oil pumps at high RPM's. I hate to say it. But I burned down two engines when I first owned the car myself. Until I learned to drive it and they put some kind of shift kit on the six speed. Something about the synocro's. The first time I ever raced it, it happened. And then three months later it did again while racing. While going from third to forth gear at 94mph. It would slide into 2nd gear. Even though you were shifting straight down to fourth, it would engage 2nd. I have out run mustang with V8's in them with that car. I out ran a Z28. It quick as hell until 94 mph. The first three gears. I'm sorry you like Honda's and probably own one. But no stock Honda would touch that Celica. Well it pretty old now, but 15 years ago. Not even close.

You can Google the quarter mile times yourself and see how they are all over the place. You got to know how to drive it. But mine is 14.9 seconds. The Honda was 15.3. That Honda would never beat me in my Celica. Not even close. I can get mine to 14.5. Sorry to burst your Honda bubble. But in the end it's just a car. So who cares. They are both slow compared to a real sports car.
