Great video, I have ordered an excel, we very rarely have any passengers in back so no problem, on my test drive I went on a local route with a good mix of roads and 5 miles of motorway, the dealer uses telematic to record route and consumption, I did 66% ev and 76.3 mpg, very impressed

Have you received the car? How are you finding it. I have been in one at a dealer but not yet driven one (planned). There are aspects that I like (compact, fuel economy, reasonable boot space, standard auto gear selector), but some compromises (lack of rear legroom, narrow rear door angle, dark headlining, tiny glove box, ugly dashboard combing). I am keeping an open mind regarding the eCVT (noise) and ride comfort.

I must say, that Toyota is my favourite Japanese brand. This car ticks most of what I like about the brand. I love the exterior styling, and even though it’s silver it looks kinda special, like the silver you see on the new 911. I even like the plastic cladding, it doesn’t look like poverty spec, like some cars do. The interior in the front looks nice, but I haven’t seen a rear door with such a small open ending. A very good review guys, keep up the good work :)

For me it was a difficult choice between this and the Ford Puma and although the Yaris Hybrid engine is magnificent with super economy I just felt the Puma was more sexy and a bit more fun to drive and slightly roomier. Saying all that the Yaris Cross Excel model is definitely worth consideration and with a Pan-roof at only £300 and City Pack £100 it’s great value plus a 10 year warranty if serviced with Toyota is amazing…….another GREAT review 👍
@PlanetautoUK2 жыл бұрын
Thank you MW, when I saw the Puma at FoS I was rather impressed, I can see why it could be a problem choosing.

Had one of these for 8 months. Never actually noticed the scratchy plastic. B Mode is not for more regenerative braking, it is for engine braking when going down hill. The manual says using it for normal driving will increase fuel consumption. Yes, the back seat is sparse but it’s really a 2 person car imo.
@PlanetautoUK2 жыл бұрын
Yes, most things aren’t noticeable, we just like to highlight what people want to see, and we do get some things wrong, thank you Zweiseler

Cool. I believe the Honda Jazz B Mode operates as a regenerative feature. Quite a few people have suggested it works like that in the Yaris, which is understandable. Perhaps they’re picking up from the Honda. Beyond that, your review was one of the best I’ve seen.

I have been doing a lot of research on the Toyota eCVT drivetrain, and now that I understand how it works, am suitably impressed. Following your usual excellent and concise review I am very drawn towards this car, although I do not feel silver is the best colour to show it off? Reasonably priced options add to its kudos, allied to excellent economy and great road ability make this a winner for me. The few niggles are far outweighed by the positives. 👍😎

Can I start by saying I am new to this channel and what a fantastic review, My wife and I are due an upgrade on her Yaris 2018 and she wants something different… but once she sees this, I think her mind will be made up, all the toys and more, Could I pose a request, would you be able to do something like a buggy test to see how well the boot will take a pushchair and ease of getting it in and out? Great work and professional presenting, like top gear of old.

Well you’ve been need up with a really nice car, but I think you’re right and that the Yaris is a touch more economical. Enjoy what you’ve got and give it a year or two, and look at it again? *A

This one or the Honda jazz? The engine seems more noise in the Yaris cross, is it true? Which one gives more comfort and fun driving it? :)
@PlanetautoUK2 жыл бұрын
They both make noise under load due to box, there’s more refinement in the Jazz both drive well, Cross feels quicker and is more fun on a back road. Both drive well and offer good economy. Thank you Paolo
@daxx102 жыл бұрын
A friend and I have been looking at the Yaris and Jazz at the same time. I've got a Cross on order; he went for a 2021 Jazz and we both agree that the interior is better (Those Magic Seats where the Toyota battery needs to be! Honda battery is under the front seats.) Most of the reviews agree with @Planetauto that comfort and fun are comparable. Test drive them both and don't be drawn to the Jazz Crosstar -- It isn't worth the extra money.

B mode is an engine braking mode for long down hill sections to prevent brake fade. It doesn’t increase regen…..every single reviewer of Toyota hybrids makes this (incorrect) statement. Using B actually reduces regen.
@paoloconsoli99992 жыл бұрын
Thank you both for your kind answers. I am considering the Cross (thinking about the panoramic roof: if it’s a plus or it just gives problems). Thank you again!

Thanks. Your description says "3 cylinder engine, with mild hybrid". It's a full hybrid (HEV) and Toyota knows how to make them, having started with the Prius circa 1997. A mild hybrid (mHEV) cannot run on electric only.
