I tested one of these yesterday. Really refined. Farewell crashy suspension. Really comfy and the engine is so much better than the previous gen Yaris. The engine noise was nothing like a diesel! It just sounded like a nice, pokey petrol engine and was never loud or intrusive. The dials are completely different to a normal Yaris also. One big display instead of two binacles. Much better. So good I ordered one!
@ramishrambarran39982 жыл бұрын
The noise from the engine is the result of using an engine having three cylinders instead of four. Three exhaust pulses every two crankshaft rotations is more intermittent than four every two crankshaft rotations. Many hybrid vehicles are opting for three cylinders.................It is cheaper to make a three-cylinder engine. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
@simonthomas53672 жыл бұрын

@ramishrambarran39982 жыл бұрын
@@simonthomas5367 What I meant, is for Toyota, it is cheaper to manufacture a three cylinder engine, rather than a four cylinder engine. Too, the engine physical size may be smaller than a four cylinder engine.....And I am not doubting that your engine may be more economical than a four cylinder engine of the same displacement. Just remember that the turbo is the life....and death of an engine. They usually have a shorter serviceable life than the engine itself. The renewal of a turbo will set you back (not the car manufacturer) a few thousand dollars. Yes, The trend is to put smaller turboed engines into vehicles today, to get the power of a bigger engine. But YOU pay for all of that when its time to renew the turbo. Add that to your savings in gasoline ! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
@simonthomas53672 жыл бұрын
@@ramishrambarran3998 Yes I completely agree there. In fact, my 3 cylinder is a bi-turbo which is what makes it particularly economical. But as you say, more parts = more to go wrong! I also run a couple of Honda's from the 1990's. One mono and one four cylinder. Both with carbs. Both indestructible! Bizarrely, modern bike displacement is now getting bigger to pollute less. Or at least to comply with Euro Norms. The world is turning upside down!

This is the first @carbuyer video I've watched in quite a while. I think the approach to this review is absolutely perfect for the general person; not over emphasising mediocrity, recognising that some things just aren't important, and the communication doesn't assume knowledge of vehicles. My only negative is that it is appropriate to say it is based on the regular Yaris. However the constant references and comparisons through the video to the Yaris could put some people off buying one as why pay extra just for a Yaris. Perhaps Toyota should have given it a different name . It is more than that and should be reviewed on its own and compared to the Puma and Tcross or Troc and see how they compare price and spec wise.

Great review. Wouldn't worry about CVT gearbox acceleration noise, it won't break. Most of us have radio, media on in car when driving. Toyota should improve on sound proofing across their range though. Having driven or owned, Prius, ct200h, rav4, etc.. the Toyota hybrid is the best and most reliable. Sister has Mercedes hybrid, starter motor went in under 3yrs, computer stats showed car restarted itself 50 times in 6km driving. Starter motor around 1k euros. Toyota have different set-up. Nice review. I have the standard Yaris MK3 hybrid with 99hp. This new MK4 is 114hp, but since it's in an SUV body it's suited to city and short - medium distance driving. Long distance will be pretty poor with engine noise due to the low power of the car and CVT gearbox. However practicality of this better than the normal yaris as mentioned in the review.

It depends very much on the battery state of charge. The best way to drive any Toyota hybrid, such as the Prius, is not to stamp on the throttle but to press and dig in more and more. That way it feels like a big engine under medium load. There are over 20 "modes" that a hybrid synergy drive engine/computer can operate under. The entire hybrid's drivetrain response will give much more of a refined shove sensation building up speed rather than the cvt-scream of a pedal to the metal approach.

Basic but ergonomic interior quality and layout. Very effective heated seats with 2 levels. Surprising steering wheel heating option that works well. Appealing exterior. 4x4 would be my preference instead of fwd. Very good front visibility, good parking camera/guide. Slightly underpowered for merging and highway performance. Rear gate struts need to be more powerful to allow for door to open on its own. Rear gate latch is badly designed and gate needs to be slammed to shut properly. Jittery ride on uneven pavement, unlike other Toyotas (Camry, Corolla). Suspension could be improved. Economical MPG but the fuel tank small size makes this car a runabout city auto , not a long range cruiser.

@@sequentialgear Warranty and reliability are two completely different beasts. One can argue that car manufacturers with high warranty have good reliability but that doesn't necessarily go hand in hand. Every survey made regarding reliability and costs Toyota/lexus are always on top. You get ZERO from the dealer when you use the warranty for the hassle of bringing/picking/moving gear and 99% of the time during work hours. I would MUCH rather have poor warranty on a vehicle that doesn't brake down as much compared to long warranty but breaking down. I drove Ford for 10 years but moved to Toyota. Where I live Ford has better warranty then toyota (in my case); Ford; 5 years or 150 000 km. Toyota; 3 years unlimited, 10 years on pre-owned. I buy new vehicles every three years. Toyota have a better value on the second hand market as well which benefits me who always buys new. My problem with Ford was 70% dealer, I was pretty satisfied with the vehicle (EDIT; VehicleS) itself. That doesn't matter if you have to bring it in every now and then though. Ford have also sold their network to a big dealer and they suck a** 😁

"... grumpy moustache but in a fun way", "... and you can look down your nose at the regular Yaris divers", "... a little shelf here for your phone and Fruit Pastils", "... on a motorway it does feel comfy shmumfy". Nice one Nicola, informative and entertaining at the same time. Lovely jubly.

It's 3 year and 60k warranty on Toyota not 5 year and 100k, they changed it. I found our when I went to buy the Yaris Cross.

You are absolutely right. Apologies for this oversight.

@@sushiadventures4595 that's the extended warranty and via their relax scheme not the standard manufacturers warranty. I was a little perplexed why they cut it while introducing the relax scheme :/

Is there one without the black roof trim? It makes most car, C-HR, like the Black hole of Calcutta (which ever spelling you use).

It’s a shame the 9 inch HD cloud navigation system intermittently connects and disconnects by itself. I just can’t trust it. Toyota are aware of the problem since 2021 but they still haven’t sorted out the problem. Mean time Toyota are still selling faulty 9 inch and display with cloud navigation fault which displays as “No Connection”. This is happening all around the U.K. and is not restricted to one area. The cloud navigation system relies on 4G telephone system via Vodaphone system connected to Toyota. If you want to use apple car play or android auto then go ahead but this is costing the customer data, the cloud navigation is free and it should work. Toyota U.K. as customers to go to Main dealers but all they do is disconnect the small 12 volt battery and reconnect, this re-boots the cloud navigation system and the could navigation works for a few days and then “no connection” fault appears again. Toyota U.K. have no answer to this problem but are still selling cars with the cloud navigation system fitted.

The Yaris Cross is so much cooler than the garbage C-HR & Corolla Cross offered in the USA market.
@Carcode3 жыл бұрын
The chr is actually a better built more premium feeling car!
@inctru3 жыл бұрын
@@Carcode But the C-HR is 100x more fugly IMO (& more cramped for space). The C-HR push-belt CVT in the USA is also problematic garbage.
@Carcode3 жыл бұрын
@@inctru Yes the CHR has ver extreme styling, the problem with the Yaris Cross is that the transmission is also a CVT unit 😔

I like everything except rear leg room. I think Toyota can do better but never care to do it. I don't understand why?
@carbuyer3 жыл бұрын
Could be something to do with the hybrid packaging? It's not disastrous in the rear, but some rivals are better.
