Agreed it's expensive, but for someone who has a long-term plan, they might want to save up and go this route rather than getting pregnant with a cam, then needing heads, then needing headers, then needing a tune, ending up spending the same amount with less performance. but I understand 100% what you mean, I couldn't have done this the first half of my life.
@BrisLS12 жыл бұрын
Just piling on here, because I considered this for my C5 before going C6. My advisor on the matter explained, the supercharger adds air, and you also need to match that with fuel. This means you have to change your tune, your fuel injectors, possibly your fuel pump, to get the matching increase in fuel. If you starve a motor for the fuel it wants, if will run lean and melt down. Newer Corvettes have aluminum block and heads. Think - LOW melting temperature. So you better get it right, oh, and you are not going into your local Autozone and saying, "can I have a set of injectors for a Procharger installation at 8 pounds of boost". You are on your own. My guy even said there are people out there taking factory injectors and poking holes in them to make them flow more fuel. Do you want to trust your engine to that? You are also on your own for repairs, or replacing your engine. Your transmission is probably ok, but your clutch will burn up. Your rear axles could suffer. There are tons of risks with the modification. For some people it is worth it. For me, I had a like new Collectors edition Z06, and knew it would trade up well, so I went to GM for more power. Fast forward 12 years to Pandemic Pricing, and it could just be a bargain to get a high mileage car cheap and beat the crap out of it, vs paying the crack pipe prices people want today. Thanks.
@Toys4Life2 жыл бұрын
That's a lot of commentary, let me just say that the fuel injectors and the fuel pump requirements are typically met with the kit contents provided by A&A and I believe ecs's kits as well. Anytime you add a couple hundred horsepower there is for sure more risk - no doubt about it. Pistons have been aluminum for decades, and the liners are steel so the meltdown situation isn't any worse than older engines in my humble opinion. If in doubt, leave it stock I guess is probably good advice.

Too much tastiness on the screen for a hungry petrolhead from Russia like me :DDD Also I do enjoy this vibe of smaller youtube channels sitting in ur own small garage and discussing something is priceless. Thank you, that was very informative, I think no one else brought up the possible issues of lets say aftermarket headers. Also, how much weight does the kit add? Turbos are quite heavy, what about centrifugal chargers?
@Toys4Life3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the kind words! The kit adds about 70lbs up front. Some say it throws off the balance of the car but the Z06 actually is further off from 50/50 than the coupe and Vortech supercharged coupe due to its light titanium mufflers behind the rear drive wheels. хорошего дня!
@hepcat933 жыл бұрын
@@Toys4Life oh thank you :D as far as I got it, a turbo kit must be around 100 lbs. We have a guy in Russia who made a twincharged Celica GT-Four (Turbo+Rotrex centrifugal). He claims that some models of this producer may be more efficient than turbo's, cuz no "hot part" is generating heat under the hood, while same RPMs can be reached. But they do use planetary gears... Speaking of the weight distribution, the drifting guys pretty much everywhere murmur: "Silvia is perfect". but the s-chassis had distrbutions like 52-54% on the front. Same for very capable track weapons like Camaro z/28, 1le, zl1 1le, they also do have between 51-53% if I remember it right. The drifters do say that strict 50/50 feels like not the best during the transitions from side to side. The front appears to be less grabby. One of the world's top drifters James Deane switched from 50/50 to 53/47 deliberately, after he started testing his freshly built BMW e92. Seems like a logical explanation for the front engine cars. Sorry if the longread bothered you and also have a good day!

You can if you want to go to the 600RWHP+ level. Just know traction on the street gets much harder to come by, transmissions and read diffs don't last as long and stock LS1 don't have forged pistons so the higher the HP you go, the increasingly greater risk of a serious problem....

Valid point sir. If you drive it like your typical 5th grade math teacher, it will get just about stock mileage. If you drive it like a 19-year-old young man, it will probably get about half of what you normally get. Horsepower consumes fuel. If you use a ton of horsepower all the time, you use a lot of fuel.

I have had excellent luck for 2.5 years with the Vortech V3si setup from A&A Corvette. I hear ECS is good as well but I do not have any direct experience with them. I would avoid the Maggie as it comes on with torque so quickly that it can be hard to control. The Vortech and Procharger have the power come on much more gradual and thus easier to control and ultimately have more HP up top (5500-6500 rpms).

a buddy of mine has been talking me into getting a a&a supercharger he's done some research and is planning on putting one on his C5Z according to him if you do supporting mods lifters, rods, and a nice crankshaft you should add about 200 to 250 to a otherwise stock C5. so 350+200(at the lest) gives you a 550 HP C% corvette

Centrifugal types can big power, over 1k whp easily but then again it depends if your setup can support it. The highest TVS2300 I seen was with alot of mods and methanol was barely a little over 1k whp. Most seem to be in the 600 - 800 whp mark... If you want alot of "noise" you can put a cog drive on the Magnuson rear. That's one of the fun things about them :) They also look cool under the hood oh and you also need a hood to clear them where else the Centri can go under the stock hood. Hope that helps!

@@02hreblue30 Idk if you know, but the Magnusons have a bypass valve that gradually opens and can be adjusted with an orifice for how much bottom end "hit" you want ;) So it's not a all at once hit. The tune can be made to do this as well :) Save some tires, clutch, etc. lol

I understand your argument about headers....But if you're gonna supercharge it, you want to have headers to let that LS breathe. Not to mention the power difference.
@Toys4Life3 жыл бұрын
Make no mistake, headers would add horsepower, but if you saw my header video, real world testing shows it's not nearly as much as one would think due to the efficiency of the LS stock exhaust manifolds. Depending on where you come down on the keep the cat versus ditch the cat argument, if you keep them that really hampers their effectiveness to scavenge due to the back pressure and pulses being somewhat muted. Now if I did an off-road only header setup, no cats, and 3-in piping all the way back, that might make a large difference! I did extensive back pressure testing as well, check out the videos, and the two and a half inch exhaust does have quite a bit of back pressure above 4,000 RPM.
