5.08 it serves the purpose of direct the water to the sides so the birds can stand on the small field and wait to fish their food out. Common birds who like to hide in the bushes are water hen, herons. Other common birds who like to hang over the fence or trees along the rivers are kingfisher, bee eater.

Richard, I read somewhere before that they include some bends in our water canals to slow down the flow of water. It may not seem like much but compounded many times over a long distance it helps a lot, which in turn prevents the banks downstream from swelling. I did not know that kallang gasworks (火城) is now a beautiful park! I used to pass by everyday to head to school nearby in the 90s but I thought that they had ceased operations already for quite a few years by then.

Beginning at the Kallang Basin there is a geological feature that's known as the Singapore Rift. It runs almost dead straight in a north-north westerly direction right up to the Yishun Reservoir. The Kallang river runs along a portion of this rift until it diverts towards the Pierce Reservoir. If the granite that makes up Bukit Timah hill is about 400 million years old this rift might be just as old.

To prevent the heat and sun burn, you could try out wearing a large turban like those worn in Rajasthan. The heat in the Thar Desert can reach 50 degrees Celcius in the open. Or use an umbrella!

Most local walk for me so far. In-Laws live in AMK so I walk in the park often, and Sister-in-law lived in Potong Pasir until recently, nephew went to St Andrews School. Must try this walk next time I'm in Sg, hopefully this summer if travel is allowed again.

Richard, Good video! I thought the stream along the tree top walk is the source of the kalang river. It flows to bishan park. Thought it will be good to show that part. Thanks for highlighting the beautiful part of Singapore. PUB or URA could have done a documentary on this. Don't remember you using a drone in Singapore before. You mentioned sunburned. I owned a house in the US that had vinyl siding on it and a detached garage. The windows were insulated double paned glass with a reflective coating to cut down summer heat transmission. Reflective to the point that the reflected sun light warped the siding on the garage because it concentrated it.

Wonderful video!! just one note: I don't think the Orang Kallang (also known as the Orang Biduanda Kallang) came from Java. They're original to Singapore. They might be a subgroup that broke away from other groups of Orang Laut of Riau during the 17-18th century. (sorry about this tiny detaiI, but I study the history and language of the Orang Seletar, another orang laut group, so the information is relevant to me)

No sane Singaporean would do what you did walking under the hot sun. We would do it early in the morning (that is why the marathon was flagged off in the 6.30 am or at 6 pm in the evening) to enjoy the walk. Of course, during your time, you hardly have people walking behind you in the background so as not to spoil the video.

Back in the day, there didn’t used to be this prevalence of turtles in Lower Pierce. Over the decades the population exploded due to people releasing their pets or as part of the Buddhists rituals of “setting free” animal life.
