@@IMJUSTthatACE GTO is one of the earliest AWD cars made. Plus had four wheel steering. It's by far the most advanced and modern car in this group. Then, you add in the fact it has active aero as well. Of course, advanced new technology meant added weight and less reliability.

The GTO launch was perfection of all wheel drive. To hold off the lighter cars for as long as it did was impressive. The R model of the NSX and RSX were definitely showing the extra track packages for what they are. The GTO has too small of intercoolers to maintain optimal horse power as heat soak sets in. The GT-R shows it’s better balance as the laps tick off. Great showing from all the Japanese Sports Cars of the 90s. Thank you for the Great Video. Domo.

Really impressive! I think what let it down was the brake fade midway, with that much curb weight you'd think Mitsubishi would've opted for Brembos (like they do with the Evo) instead of Sumitomo. In comparsion, Nissan paired the R33 GTST with Sumitomos while the GTR ran Brembos, so the GTO being a tier behind in brakes was disadvantaged from the start. Great effort none the less. GTO is a great platform, underrated. Doesnt take much to make them quick, especially the later models.

Damn i never knew how truly superior the awd were at launches until i started watching this channel. 90's japanese sports cars for a millenial like me is kinda like how 60's american muscle was for the boomers. japanese far superior though because of the variety in engine cylinders turbo or na and drivetrain variation as well. america pretty much just offers v8's and rwd majority of the time. perfect channel for a JDM nut like me. Yep, I'm surprised more people don't seem to recognize that. It's why all the 90s Japenese legends are shooting up in value, now that most millennials have gotten to a place in life they have money to spend on such things they want the car's they grew up wanting. I'm glad I'm a little ahead of the curve and got the ones I really wanted while they were still fairly cheap, just wish I had Jay Leno money so I could have gotten them all, lol. 3000gt was always an underdog of the group and are still(for now) relatively obtainable. 300zx is also still on the lower end, but more expensive than the 3000gt.

The nsx-r is a lot more like a grand tourer with some aero parts and better handling upgrades, far from a supercar. In this case the only real “supercar” is the nissan gtr.

The nsx is between a mr2 and an ferrari. At the same time that it has 276-290hp, it also relies on its handling to outperform the rival ferrari. Gran tourers are heavy and meant for straight line speed and cruising.

One of the main issues I have with modified cars is that at that point they are not the same car, and it all goes on just what you modified it for it loses the entire purpose on testing performance and you can't compare it with any other car after you modify it.

Drove a 1993 FD3S Touring for a few years, black + tan with the BOSE sound system and 6-disc. Efini y-pipe, hks ssqv bov, full apex'i pipes, 3mm seals, injectors (i forget the cc), new billet compressor wheel etc, polished original housing, fuel pump, custom hood from VIS, ARC intercooler, other bits and bobs, filter and box of course, infini badges etc. Put lots of time and math into the mappings, kept her nice and quiet for around the town, crushed over 5k rpm. The exhaust never popped, just sounded like giant turbine. Throw the battery in the trunk and it's basically 50/50 weight. On a superbike you do this thing called "locking in", squeezing your knees to the tank, pushing off the pegs. After awhile it can bruise the inside of your knees. So if you're willing to really push the car, on track, not out in public >.> you can do the same thing in the FD3S except backwards (I'm 6'2"). I've come out of that car with bruises on the outside of my knees from "locking in". I guess it would be "locking out" in a car. The car is absolutely brilliant but it's like a wild horse. You have to be *precise* as it is super unforgiving, for the handling and the boost. Also, as far as creature comforts go, it's not great unless you start adding/replacing the entertainment/navi/etc. It's fun while you're young or if you plan on tracking it but really not worth the price today. It's almost as uncomfortable as a superbike for long distance. If it's all original then you'd hear and feel everything, old glass, old lights, back "seat" shouldn't even be there, needs serious work every 50k-100k miles. If purchasing today I would get air ride suspension, new entertainment system with bluetooth and navi, replace all door and hatch seals etc. I used to take it to Summerduck Dragway, Pocono and VIR. As for straight line racing, only 2 cars "in class" ever beat it in my area at the time. One was a 4th generation supercharged Mustang, some really nice upgrades, cherry red paint. The other was a 4th generation Firebird Trams Am, some crate motor, naturally aspirated, silver paint. I couldn't hear the guy because his motor roared so loudly but I clearly saw him point to his hood and mouth "five fifty plus!". Took both off the line, then; The Mustang beat me after 3rd gear, awesome supercharger. The Trans Am just crushed me as I was shifting into 2nd, just roared past me. You can pick up a running FD today for anywhere from $15k to $60k+ depending on condition and history, but that's the same price as a V8 bi-turbo Mercedes that's 20 years newer, faster and has all of the creature comforts.

3000gt's are still fairly obtainable, for now at least, 300zx second most obtainable from the halo cars. It's not tuner culture so much as generational thing, millennials now have money to blow and are snatching up the cars they wanted growing up, same thing we saw with boomers and muscle cars.

The Issue with the GTO was the platform itself . Designed as a transverse AWD the frame needed to be really stiff , thus making it really heavy . Having the engine sit solely in the engine compartment the front end frame itself suffered in having to be really heavy . If the weight was distributed longitudinally , this would have offered better weight distribution abs the frame itself would have been able to be lightened .
