There are very few profitable solar industrial solar installations in the world. It's a waste of money and time. Solar energy is unreliable and only works when there is sunlight, you will also need to store it because you will produce more that needed on an Industrial level and I'd say you'd need that capability to store enough energy for one day for the entirety of Jamaica and this is where we enter the land of fiction with rainbows and unicorns because such battery technology doesn't exist and won't anytime soon.

After finding out that it has significant medical uses the government and upper class in our society exploit the original pioneers of the discovery and take over the business and proceeds. If oil is found in Jamaica it should not only benefit the rich but also the marginalized in Jamaica. Jamaica is not poor it's just full of greed, injustice and corruption.

Thankyou for this video. I have always wanted to find out more about oil exploration in jamaica but found information very patchy. I sincerely believe 🙏 that if jamaica found significant deposits of oil or gas ordinary people would benefit. Maybe I'm being optimistic or naive. Jamaica has for years been stangled by its debts, its only now seeing the benefit of a reduction with a lot of economic activity which has benefit the people. There is corruption on the island but no country in the world is without corruption it just depends on the level and jamaica is no way worst then some countries in the region. Trinidad has oil its people have benefited. Jamaica has strong institutions and some good laws. Its failure is it lacks consist implementation. I take your point about the damage to the marine environment. I don't know that much about the harmful affects of drilling to comment. When you know more please do a follow up video. Ps. I share some of your sentiments actually. Watch the video to the end to see my other thoughts. However, based on my research finding oil in Nigeria turned out to be a curse for most of the population. They are unfortunately plagued with corruption and poverty. Most of the revenue from oil is used by the government to pay debt etc, and doesn't trickle down to the poor. Dubai is oil rich, but oil revenue represents only a small portion of their GDP. Hell, Jamaicans have shown no true benefit from the resources they now have, i.e tourism. Jamaica is a puppet state run by foreign entities. You dont have to be Eisenstein to know this. Just saying something nebulous like "if its managed properly" while denigrating someone who points out the obvious flaws with that position, is quite lazy. Support your argument with examples of this happening in other countries like Jamaica. I will further support my position by citing one example . Nigeria. The proverbial axe you are grinding has been analyzed, debunked and thrown into the garbage heap of history! Most of the countries you mentioned are notorious for government corruption. Let’s take Nigeria for instance, things are not as cut and dry as you would have us believe, when colonial powers sliced up that country and pitted tribes against tribe, the effects of such actions are still having devastating consequences on that nation. Politicians at the helm oftentimes look out for the interest of their ancestral tribes first therefore neglecting the country as a whole. In summary, the wealth is not evenly distributed among the people. Now let’s talk Venezuela, even with the world’s largest oil reserves most Venezuelan are living hand to mouth, autocratic rule has been a total disaster. Much like Chavez,Maduro’s politics and policies are not only barbaric but archaic at best! Socialism like Communism only benefits the few at the top! Oligarchs paradise in short! To summarize, most oil rich state are notoriously corrupted, uneven wealth distribution and lack of free market conditions are sure fire ways to ruin the benefits that oil bring to the masses. The U.A.E is a great example of when government put oil revenues to good use and country first! Oil is not the problem, corruption, lack of good sincere leadership and bad deals from oil companies are all contributing factors that must be taken into consideration whenever you get on your soapbox! Even the great United States with all its natural resources, poverty abounds! No one type of governance is perfect but free market economies oftentimes perform much better than restricted ones!

If the free movement of corruption is not curtailed Jamaica and Jamaicans will not see the benefits of oil finds and production. For that and the over promised and underachieved environmental correction, ‘I am out.’ Take your research to the bauxite industry; explain it’s economic impact. And, if the eternal negative environmental impact, the permanent loss of water tables and of flora/fauna is being addressed. Take what has been happening in this industry as the template for the possible future of the oil industry should there be finds.

The present owners of the exploration permit needs US$30M to start drilling. The government could issue long term bonds to get the money to start drilling. If oil is found the bond holders should be compensated relatively to the profit made. If no oil, then Jamaica should consider the project a investment loss. Better yet, we could close down the JUTC and use the money that is used to subsidize that entity to drill the necessary oil wells.

There is oil in St James Montego Bay where I use to live. There was a certain spot near to the Dome I always see oil mixed with water, so Iasked My mother; why is oil in the puddles of water when it rains? She answered and said there was a drill for oil at that spot but the oil was mixed with water so they stopped the drilling. Even when I migrated to the States in the late 90s oil was still coming up from the ground at that spot especially when it rains. It is not in a popular public area plus sometimes residents used the spot as a garbage dump, so it is out of mind what had been found there. The spot was too close to the young and fragile tourist industry. Maybe the reason the drilling did not continue. There were also some nocturnal people short in stature and of brown skin colour and red haired who lived under the ground close by so maybe they did not want to damage their homes even though they sealed the entrances with concrete to stop them. They were accused of theft and abduction while the we slept at nights.

There was necromancer who came to Montego Bay to find her treasures hoping to resurrect her and ask her where to find it, late '70es or early '80es you can research it the stories can be very connected if you have the patience to dig deep enough. She used the underground passages to reach and exit close to Samsharpe Square before her slaves could make it on foot walking on the then shorelines to the plantation. This drove fear into the slaves and made her seem invincible Montego Bay is full of underground caverns and passages and there you find the dwelling place of those people. They call them "Hooping Boys" because of their short stature and the hooping sound they make when communicating. So if you can find the entrance to the underground caverns you might find other things. The entrance I know is sealed with concrete and the is a concrete stairway close beside it that is also sealed off. Growing up we had an idea where the witches treasures might be, but was too scared to venture into those caverns because of the fear of those little people who were illusive and skillfull using whips in those days. Dam I should write a book. If the necromancer had come our district we or I would have told him where to go if he was willing to pay. The necromancer quest was spectacular which attracted the news media from far and whide. So if you want to know more do your research. You might be able to find one of the entrances and go under ground if you are brave enough. Although the last place I heard those people were spotted was in St Elizabeth. GOOD LUCK?

Lee Kuan Yew sought advice from the Jamaican government and copied their economic model. There after Singapore gained independence in 1965. Here we are years later since Jamaica and Singapore made those steps towards self-government, that first step for Singapore ended up being a economic success while Jamaica can't say the same. As someone who has worked in the oil industry, I will say that oil will be the death of Jamaica's clean beaches and environment. Check out Nigeria's delta region. It's an environmental disaster.

You really don’t want progress we need more to build our economy we don’t need tourism alone besides I don’t like the fact that we of to depend on tourism as major part of Jamaica’s income only a spill would cause marine damage as it relates to atmosphere it’s only one atmosphere and pollution travels so if we don’t do ourselves other countries will, I would like for them to find oil however a bad deal can occur based on percentage it’s very difficult to negotiate things like that for example we do not own a rig we do not have trained qualified and experienced people to do the drilling and operate all the equipments and to control of there is ever a spill so most of the percentage would go to the company who owns the rig Where we may not able to benefit from it with its full potential what our government need to do is sponsor some smart students who are interested and passionate about geography and oil exploration send them to study and get full training and work for at least ten years there then our government could invest in the probe for exploration of the probe images gives an indication that there is oil it could be pre drilled to verify then our government could purchase one or credit this way most of the percentage would come to us this is the problem we are facing, when foreigners of to do the mining or drilling very few benefits to Jamaica our culture of to change in order to be a wealthy and progressive country

@@ArtsyIslandGirlJamaicanVlogs This might be a hard one. My father died 2013. He was from Lindos Gap Constitution Hill in St. Andrew. He said there were mines in the hills of St. Andrew - Copper Mines. These mines of course had tunnels and the tunnels were used by travellers giong into town like market people. After a time they market people were being robbed as they returned in the evenings from their selling. This story it seems was passed down to him from his parents. He was born 1936. I dont know what you can find from this.

The oil 🛢 is in the ground for a reason, uno need to leave Jamaica 🇯🇲 alone. It's the drilling of oil in the ocean that is causing all these earthquakes. It's common sense if they pump out the oil it will leave a big void in the earth that will need to be filled.
