Tractor Time with Tim helps out Ken, a long time subscriber who lives in Indy. Ken wants to create a storage area for his trash cans but needs Johnny (our John Deere 1025R) to move some dirt, dig out an old post and concrete first.

Ken Litherland what is your plan for the project? Are you bringing in more gravel to fill the hole? I think it should of been leveled better and more dirt added to give you 5-6 inches of gravel. That would of saved a lot of gravel.

Not a big project only to make a new home for my garbage cans. a small fence and a gate to hide them. The gravel Tim put back in from the pile on my driveway at the end leveled out nicely and filled the hole from the concrete post. I got a yard of drive way stone and it filled it in perfectly with some left over for my shed in the back.

A shoutout from Ontario, Canada. Really enjoying your videos. Just bought a 1025r and you guys have been hugely helpful in understanding the best way to tackle projects. I dont think what Christie did was unsafe at all being as how you both work so closely together and trust each other. That being said, some people would criticize if you drank water from a hose and call that unsafe !! You guys are so patient with us "newbies". You are very much appreciated. Thank you and stay safe !!

Few years back, I got a talk with a Avant engineer. He told me to go on with my tractor instead of buying a Avant loader. Just because a tractor can do so much more than there equipment. So what you show here is completely correct, you just beat a skid steer with Johny. Now you have Vinnie, and that's a nice addition next to Johny.

As a child, I rode in the back of pickup trucks, used steel flying saucers to sled, had bb gun fights with my brothers, rode on tractor fenders, on top of hay bales on wagons, rode hay elevators into haylofts, and even used steel tipped lawn darts!! (HAHA) How did we all survive? Riding on the bucket looked perfectly OK to me. PS my dad in the 40's used to sled down the street he lived on and then underneath tractor trailers stopped at the cross street at a red light at the bottom of the hill. We won't even talk about what he did with kerosene on his bike tires!!

It's called Back Dragging: The weakest maneuver that can be done with a bucket (Can bend hyd cylinder rams). I added universal quick attach to front loader. Also a Third function valve and light weight two tooth grapple bolt on, for bucket. Bought spare 5' quick attach bucket, I hardly use. The grapple rides around on bucket straight up in air, out of the way, when using bucket.
@ArizVern

Keep it Simple. Fingers use 3/8" and 1/2" mounting plate steel. Eight inch 1/2 bolts for mounting. Single cylinder, fast acting. Like bucket and grapple together, no changing between the two. Have a spare universal quick attach bucket, if needed. Another handy feature I use, Tip and Tilt 3 Point with Quick Attach.

Can I suggest that you might have used the grapple instead of the bucket? You've been able to use it on some jobs as a substitute for the bucket and it would have picked up that group of roots without the counter weight that Christy provided. This is certainly a time where a bigger trailer of better planning would have made things easier.

@@TractorTimewithTim I was saying it would be a good time to have a larger trailer that you could have carried the grapple on. We have to live with what we have. I have a 16ft landscaping trailer and I'll be putting D-rings on it to help with tie downs. I've been using the rails, but that isn't the best choice. Tim I have to tell you you need a stationary thumb on that backhoe. I used mine to pull out concrete just like that back in August on 2 clothesline posts. I dug around them then activated the thumb and used it to pick up the entire thing and I had more concrete than that on the bottom of my clothesline posts. And no I did not put in the clothesline. I believe that clothesline was put in before I was even born. But I would have never got those post out of that hole without that thumb. And my John Deere really didn't have the power to pick up that much weight either. But it did drag them out of the hole. And my whole was also about four and a half foot deep. I have no idea why someone would dig a hole over 4 foot and then fill it full of concrete just to hold up a clothesline. And hurt my hydraulics not been fixed I would have never got them out.
