What orientation are the blades? When mowing tall grass do clippings spread out evenly more to the left or right or windrow through the center? Does Ventrac let customers choose? Are the blades on slip clutches? Is that why the blades are not beat up? For grease I use Fendt lithium on everything. I’ve had excellent results.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
Belt driven. Same effect as slip clutch.
@zfilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah belt driven is standard for these. I just wanted to know if Ventrac designed these more like a rotary cutter or riding mower.
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
I would say the design is more like a finish mower...but with the toughness of a rotary cutter. We'll get a bit 'tougher' with it in an upcoming video. I took down some larger trees :-) . ...and had lots of fun doing it!

I bought the Lock-N-Lube as per your recommendation. I love it! I can't believe how easy that gun is to reload. I have a very old, well worn grease gun. I usually go through two tubes per season. It requires at least 20 minutes of colorful language and grease over everything to change! I always save a large carboard box and change the tube in the bed of the truck. That way I can fold the whole mess into the box and into the trash can, along with many paper towels. And I 'lube' the tractor!

If you visit the John Deere sight for their lubricants you will see that the SD Polyurea is what they state to be their BEST multipurpose grease. For the bearings in the blade spindle shafts, you may be better off avoiding grease containing moly; the rumor is that the moly allows the ball bearings to skip in the races and thus wear out. Similar caution for the "U" joints under your power unit's radiator area. If you have not greased those "U" joint zerks yet, you are in for a treat, Houdini would have a hard time getting to the front one, but it can be done.

@ExtremeRC4x46 жыл бұрын
Great Video as always! I wanted to throw in my two cents about why this mower might not throw as much material as your tractor brush hog. By having essentially one blade on the brush hog the blade tip speed is going to be very high, due to how wide the blade is. This is important because the brush hog is designed to hit things with momentum and high speed which allows it to cut through thick material. However the high speed will throw chunks of that material out from under the deck just because of how hard it is being hit. On the ventrac you have three smaller blades just like your mower deck, because the blades are shorter the blade tip speed will be much less, so it shouldn’t throw material as hard or as much as a brush hog. This is simply why I imagine that it doesn’t throw as much material, if you or anyone else has something they would like to add or correct please feel free!
@steiger2566 жыл бұрын
I think also the way the Ventrac is designed. With the 3 blades counter rotating it pushes all the debre out the back to the ground. I would imagine with a regular Bush hog with one blade spinning in a high speed circle it would hit and fling as it goes out sides, back ect. Plus chopping material up with 3 blades probably makes the stuff smaller as it goes out. That's my thought on it.
@seenithere6 жыл бұрын
I'm impressed with the condition of those blades after what they have cut. After a summer of cutting the blades on my 60D JD deck don't look anywhere in that good of shape.

I rarely wash my commercial mower, mainly use my Stihl blower to clean off unwanted material. If one greased a lot one should buy the setup using a 5 gallon can hooked to air with gun and long hose. I had one years ago but sold it when I sold my old tractor and moved to Florida.
@suburbantractor91256 жыл бұрын
Here I thought "greazin" was a regional thing, something us New Yorkers weren't aware of. About two weeks ago I ordered some guns and grease for my 1025R. I really wanted to go with the Lube Shuttle but not being knowledgeable about grease I stuck with the JD stuff. According to the manual, my 260B backhoe takes a different grease than the rest of the tractor so that would mean 2 Lube Shuttle kits, and I wasn't 100% sure the grease would be compatible with the JD stuff already in there. As time and funds allow, I still may bet a Lube Shuttle. Thanks for the info and God bless you guys.

I use Tractor Supply Multi-Purpose Lithium on most everything that just needs normal lubrication. I use the Traveler Heavy Duty #2 red grease in all mower deck application or high speed bearings/bushings etc. I use corn head grease in some gearbox applications that call for it. The most important thing in greasing is to do it on a regular basis.
@akbychoice6 жыл бұрын
I thought for sure it would have had the break away type swing blades. Heavy duty blades for sure. The three blades appear to rotate in different directions. The two on the left rotate the same direction and the one on the right the opposite. If that is true the blades could be sharpened on both sides to ease production and installation. Rough cut and bush hogs also do not need lift to mow would be another reason you can get away with sharpening both sides

That's odd that they are sharpened on both edges. Looking at the shape of the blade and the direction of the 45-degree cutting edge it does not look like you could flip them around, Notice how the top side is narrower than the bottom side (i.e. trapezoid shaped when looking at the end).
@TractorTimewithTim6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I dunno why they are sharpened on both sides.

@@TractorTimewithTim It might be a good question to ask your Ventrac contact. Perhaps those same blades are used on something else that rotates in the opposite direction.
@tbirdracefan6 жыл бұрын
If you look at when Tim moves the center blade, one of the blades turns the opposite direction. In that case those 2 blades could be swapped and it would be just like a new blade. One blade however would be left out of that rotation.
@eosjoe5656 жыл бұрын
@@tbirdracefan Good eye!! Then it would seem the blade design simply allows you to use any blade in any spindle position.
